  1. I'd be pretty thrilled to see Iraq and Afghanistan added. I discovered geocaching after my deployment to Iraq, was surprised to discover how many caches I had walked past on the base I was stationed at. When I got to Afghanistan I made a point to search for at least one in my limited down time in the hopes of getting a new country added to my list. No such luck.
  2. This is just something I'd love to see, thought I'd put it out there for feedback and see if the powers that be would be interested. I currently have a TB patch on my SWAG bag (which I keep my other TBs in) and a medallion on the walking stick I'm making (which will have pathtags, coins, and other trackable mementos on the wrist strap). It can get a little cumbersome logging all these various trackables, and I was thinking it would be nice if there were an option to stack or nest them. For example, if I nest all my souvenirs under my walking stick, and then log my walking stick at a cache or event, all of those items "under" it would be logged as well. Let me know what y'all think, or if this idea has been floated before. Thanks
  3. I fully agree. I have trouble understanding why we don't have this already after this many years.
  4. Find something that tells a story. A surfboard keychain that wants to return to the beach. A stuffed dog lookign for playmates. An image of the St. Louis Arch that want to expand westward. The story is what makes the travel bug fun. Once you figure out the story the rest is easy.
  5. Google is the best I've found so far, it'll pull up other people's lists of bookmarks. Not a great answer, but the best I've got ;}
  6. Back in '02-'03 I had read an article about an interactive role playing/spy game out in the big wide world, but when I went back a few years later to try to find the details on it I had no luck. Fortunately my search for that elusive game on the web led me to this thing called geocaching. As soon as I read about it I knew that resistance was a lost cause, I ordered my GPSr from the next paycheck. My first cache was Rock Springs 2 in O'Fallon, IL. It took me about thirty minutes to find the pile of bark next to the log that was hiding the tupperware. The funny thing was that on my way back up the trail afterwards I ran into a friend of mine who I'd been telling about my planned outing the night before. By complete coincidence she was on her morning walk in the park while I was hunting the cache and she came along with me for my second.
  7. Bah! I'd say all of those are just fine, nothing a little field surgery with a leatherman couldn't fix. ;} I find it interesting that of all of them, salt water seems to do the most irreparable damage.
  8. Well, here's hoping that I won't be doing too much caching in sub zero temps. ;} Thank you all for the quick response, I'll probably be ordering a 500 series palm off of ebay today. Happy hunting.
  9. I've decided to try to find a used PDA on ebay strictly for geocaching. I've read a bit about cachemate and it seems to be the way to go. My question is about PDA models, if one is being used strictly for geocaching does the model really matter? Can I get by with an older series Palm Pilot, or do I need a newer one to do this sucessfully? Any input from cachers who have gone paperless, especially those who have used more than one type of PDA, would be greatly appreciated.
