  1. I'm relatively new to geocaching, I admit. However...in my whopping two weeks of experience, I had not encountered anything like I had today. I was on the hunt for a cache along a creek in southeastern Pennsylvania today when I located the cache in question. It was a clever little birdhouse about 6 feet up on a tree. The hole a bird would typically enter through had been boarded shut. To get the cache, you had to remove the bottom by turning a little wooden piece to the side. I had not even remotely anticipated anything BUT the cache falling out along with the floor. How on EARTH could I have expected the spiders that fell out of the bottom? And these spiders weren't small either. One monster one was easily 2" in diameter and had some substance to him. Another two were yellow and black. Before putting the cache back IN the birdhouse, we took a look up inside...and there were MORE. And one was bigger than what had fallen out. Yet...we still got the cache back up inside the house afterwards. I'm no expert on spiders...but I'm positive none of them were widows or recluses. Beyond that...who knows. They were just downright unnerving. LOL Anyone else find something IN a cache of the living variety they weren't expecting? I most DEFINITELY will be donning gloves for any such caches in the future. The funny thing is that someone logged the find just days earlier...and they made no mention of 8 legged creatures living in the birdhouse. LOL
  2. Geocaching is a new activity for me. I picked it up as much because of the type of people that partake in the activity, as I did for the activity itself. I don't anticipate anyone in here making me regret posting my contact information. I started geocaching after shooting pool at a relatively high level for 15 years. The people I was surrounded by were largely of marginal human stature as far as morality is concerned. So I quit. And that's a monumental decision for someone who genuinely loves the game of pool itself, in all its forms. If it's proven I've made the same mistake again...I'll take my lumps and find yet another recreational activity to enlighten myself with. From what I've seen so far, this is a community of good folk with above average judgment when it comes to doing right by its fellow participants. Besides...I love the mere opportunity of meeting new people. It takes all types.
  3. Thanks for the help boss. I'm new. As if that wasn't obvious. LOL Hayden
  4. I'm relatively new to this activity...and was looking to get in touch with some other individuals in my area that are new to it as well. I think I'd rather enjoy undertaking the location of some caches with someone else that's inexperienced as a means to mutually grow into it. I live in Plymouth Meeting, PA...and at present...I happen to have an absolute boatload of free time on my hands through the end of the year. So..if you think it's something you'd like to do...let me know. I love meeting new people and friends...so if you're interested...be in touch. 5. I just don't know where else to post this. I've been trying to log in to the SEPAG.us website for days now. However...everytime I attempt to do so...I get a couple of errors. First of all, it says wrong username or password. I've clicked on the "Log in Problems?" link, and entered the username under which I registered, and my email. However, I have never received an email with a new confirmation code. Secondly, and most importantly, I keep getting an error that says "Cookies must be enables past this point" error. This has prohibited me from doing anything whatsoever on the site. I've changed every imaginable setting in my internet options...and I just can't get this fixed. I'm stuck. The FAQ's page is utterly useless...and absolutely nowhere on the website is there a "Contact Us" link so that I can shoot off an email to someone who might be able to assist me. So...if there's anyone out there that's NOT having this issue with the SEPAG.us website...please...help. I've all but given up at this point...so...this is my final recourse. Thanks in advance for everyone's help with this. Sincerely, Hayden McCall Below are the two best ways to contact me with any information you may have. haydendodgemccall@gmail.com 610.812.5644
  6. I'm new to this...so I"m sure my opinion doesn't carry much weight here. Regardless... I found out about geocaching some time ago. However...I read up on it extensively before getting involved...books...forum posts...websites...you name it. I just recently took some classes at R.E.I's outdoor school in Plymouth Meeting, PA so that I could get some knowledge about land navigation, GPS, and using maps and a compass. The knowledge I've learned through these courses alone is so great...finding the caches with it nearly seems like icing on the cake. If it wasn't for the sheer point of being courteous enough to let someone know that their cache was found and enjoyed...I would be inclined to leave no trace of my presence whatsoever. I'd neither sign the log nor take from/give anything to, the cache. How many I ulimately find is moot. For me...the best part about geocaching is that it typically lands you on some small patch of sod that you'd never in a million years have seen were it not for the curiosity of what someone HID on that patch of dirt. In fact...I found my first cache today. I walked the whole way there and back as it's only a couple miles from my house...and it allowed me to use the GPS. :-p At any rate...the weather was amazing...the colors were starting to pop...my head was on a swivel to say the least. I found the cache...cracked a small smile...and went home. I haven't logged it...nor will I. I'm also going to place a few caches...because I think I know of some places that people will truly enjoy. I guess in my opinion...changes to the game are irrelevant if they don't pertain to your own approach to the activity. What other people do with the stuff they find...who cares.
