  1. So, yourself doesn't count your saying?
  2. I bought mine from Amazon.com a few years back because they had it at an insane price. I always trust Amazon so I'm usually willing to spend a few more bucks with them. I noticed GPSCity has some good prices depending on what unit you are buying, though I have no experience buying from them.
  3. I just posted my first cache and it got approved. It is automatically added to your watch list if you own it and on the right it says '1 user(s) watching'. Does this include the owner? Does this mean every cache has to have at least 1 user watching it?
  4. Understandable. I was more concerned that I got an approximate location, but after looking at a map, I wanted to move it and I wasn't sure how far away it was going to be. So, I placed the cache and now I just came back and updated the coordinates and added everything I wanted to the description, THEN I submitted it for review. Hopefully it gets approved and someone fines it this holiday weekend.
  5. Is this true even if you haven't submitted the site for review yet?
  6. I've read the guidelines, and I'm assuming that the cache follows all of those guidelines. I'm just interested in the process. The unclear part for me was do I hide the cache, then submit it or should it be done like above where you submit, hide, then submit for review. It seems this is the right way, but the flow of this could be designed better for first timers to follow this method. Possibly removing the checkbox, then forcing you to submit it, tell you to hide it, then giving you the option to submit it for review confirming that it's actually hidden and ready. I guess this is more of a suggestion from someone that is doing the process for the first time.
  7. I'll be posting my first cache this afternoon, and I'm wondering what's the best way to do this. Here is what I've done/am doing. 1) Scout Area to confirm it's good a place and get approx location. 2) Make cache (container + stuff) 3) Submit cache with review UNchecked. Get Waypoint (GCXXXX) to write on cache/log. 4) Hide cache getting exact location and details 5) Fill in details and submit cache for review. I think this is the best way so you can get the waypoint and put it on/in the cache.
  8. Just the name of the game. More people are going to trade for something better. I think the only thing I've taken is a geocaching sticker. I try to keep my eye out for things that I could just leave. I'm here for the advanture though. If it was just a log in the box the thrill would be the same for me.
  9. This has security hole written all over it. Maybe you should come up with a better web friendly version of the game instead of convincing Groundspeak to change their system. I could see a site similar to those sites where you can upload a picture and create a flash puzzle. You can enter coordinates, and the program will create a game for you with a unique URL.
  10. The question specifically stated that you were asked to bring something on the plane. No one asked you to bring the travel bug on that specific plane, or any plane in general. Either way, they stopped asking the question because in all the years of asking it, it never stopped anything.
  11. Does he have a web site? I think it would be better to show some examples and give us some pricing. Coin A Setup Cost $100 10-24 coins $x.xx per coin 25-50 coins $x.xx per coin etc. That way we have some idea how much something costs cause right now it sounds like it could be cheap, but it depends on the complexity.
  12. Went back to the site today and using the map from the Township site was able to find the trail. I found out the other one was near where a new housing development was being put up, which is probably a half a mile from where I would want to put mine. Only a short walk into the woods. I'll possibly place a cache in the next week or so closer to the rec fields, but on the hiking trails. No Micro needed.
  13. "What common household item causes the bird flu? You will be shocked at what it is, news at 11." I'm going to have to work on a blade of grass type cache container just for you.
  14. Conversion of technology. Any modern Verizon cell phone can now download via Get It Now the ability to have autorouting to destinations. Though this isn't truely GPS, this is what a majority of the people will want to use the technology for. Your GPS will be included in your phone along with your mp3/xm radio/payment type device. Of course I could be completely wrong.
  15. I have an ammo box next to my desk, just waiting to find where to put it. I also spray painted a twist-n-lock ziploc container last night for placement. I'll have to go now and buy a case of match-stick containers and camo tape and place them all around Morris County.
  16. Well, I would have to put it towards the front near the rec fields somewhere. Maybe something a little bigger then a micro. I want to put something in the woods, but I couldn't find the hiking path.
  17. HA! Actually thats ok, you just can't throw missiles. If you shoot them, you are ok. I couldn't even figure out how to get to the pond from the rec area, let alone near the pond. I'm thinking I may still put a micro somewhere closer to the fields. I think there may be a walking path near the front.
  18. This is no longer an issue. I went out to the park and it looks like they are still concentrating on finishing the other receration areas before they start on the hikining and fishing areas.
  19. How about micro cache recommendations? Magnet Key cases seem to be popular, but leak like crazy. Match Stick cases work well. Any other ones that people have used or seen that work great?
  20. I read the rules already and I agree! I'll have to investigate the hiking trails this week.
  21. Wild Turkeys are scary, especially when you don't spot them first. I was minding my own business going up a trail when two fly out behind a huge boulder towards the sky. I was turned around and ready to run before I realized what they were. They were smart enough to be on the safe side of the hunting grounds, by about 100 feet. Though I have no idea if you can't hunt turkey in this area, I would have loved to get a picture of them behind the sign.
  22. I visited the relativily new Turkey Brook Park in Mt. Olive NJ a few days ago and the park is amazing. I didn't know the full details of it, but there is a hiking trail that supposedly exists and more to come. I'm going to scout this out and I would love to put a cache here. My question is about obtaining permission to do this. Does anyone in the area have any details about this park? I know the town owns the park, but I wanted to try to get more info before blindly emailing the recration department. Is there a generic letter available that I can use for this? In the Guide on Placing a Cache it says there are local Geocaching representives that can help with more information on getting permits that may be needed in a specific case. Anyone know who would be the person to contact regarding this. Any tips appreciated. I haven't placed a cache yet, but would love to get started contributing.
  23. The problem with using <body> is it technical breaks the specs. It could have some bad behavior if they start specifing the DOCTYPE.
  24. I looked at some cache pages and they are just duplicating the body tag, which, I don't find to be that clean. You should be able to put the following code into your description of your cache, and replace the URL with what image you would like to use. <style type="text/css"><!-- body { background-image:url(http://domain.com/graphics/bg_cache.gif); }--></style> This is in theory, because I have no cache to test it on, but it works on regular pages.
  25. *looks out the window at the rain* Remember the big yellow thing that use to be in the sky everyday? Wonder what happened to that thing. Every Geocache I go to involves crossing a stream now, though most people call them paths.
