So how do you recognise a fellow cacher???
The Cuthberts replied to gruntfuttock's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
We popped by one of our favourite pubs on Saturday which 'just happens' to be near one our caches so we thought a quick 'maintenance' visit would be in order. However, just on pulling up, we noticed a family disembarking from a 4*4 in front of us 'armed' with the clipboard and GPSr...... ho hum...onward we went. As an aside, Nattybooska recognises fellow cachers because they appear at the front door armed with baseball-bats !! Andy and Dawn (Wiltshire's contribution to the chaos theory) -
In case you have access to MM Fireworks, there is a fantastic 'batch' option which allows the same resize / crop / whatever modifications to be made to many pictures simultaneously. I think Photoshop and Paintshop have this facility as well. Original files are preserved. I can give more detailed help with Fireworks if required. Andy

What a strange place for a cache.
The Cuthberts replied to Simes's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
quote:Originally posted by Cushag:example you could have two caches on the opposite sides of a river with a 20 mile walk to the nearest bridge! Now that would be fustrating! I seem to remember doing this (cache has been moved since) and got quite a few emails saying 'I could see where the cache was but it was on the wrong side of the river!' Ironically the hint was 'Stay on the West side of the river'. I adjusted my cruelty streak and the cache was moved. However, I can see Nattybooshka making notes Andy -
Duplicate post.... Cuthbert you clumsy fool !!

Memory-Map users, check this out !
The Cuthberts replied to Team Paradise's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Never stopped using it since buying it. The only snag was living on the border of Regions 1 and 2. This looks very good and I would be more than interested in groups discounts. Having read the review again, it looks like there is no 'upgrade' path and the maps and photos that I have already bought will not work with this version of the software Would make a nice FTF prize though ! It makes me laugh sometimes when doing IT support calls. S is always for 'Sugar' but some of the others that have crept out..... T - Tommy V - Viagra A - Apple E - Elephant F - Freddie Is this part of the 'official civvie' alphabet ? Naturally, being ex-military, I correct these blatant heathens Andy

Criteria for choosing a cache location?
The Cuthberts replied to Clinton Baptiste's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Don't mind long walks as long as there are things to see/hear along the way. We love solitude, weird things, trees and animals/birds..... and possibly a decent recommendation for post-cache refreshment. We are newbies and none of the caches we have found, or gone looking for, have raised our eyebrows and wished we were elsewhere. Your logs will tell all. Hope this helps. Not as far off topic as you might think
The Cuthberts replied to Lance Ambu's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Get an old novel that you don't mind cannibalising with at least 26 chapters. Write the URL/Company on the relevant chapter heading page (A=1, B=2, etc) and make up the password from the first word on the page with at least 5/6 letters and the page number itself. Keep the book secret ! Works for me and I'm a sieve-head !! Andy -
Congratulations - This certainly doesn't reflect your GC.Com handle !! Andy and Dawn (Wiltshire's contribution to the chaos theory)

Fantastic idea. Would there be an orphanage for those feckless parents that don't want their travelbugs anymore ? Andy and Dawn (Wiltshire's contribution to the chaos theory) -
How much info should I put in the hints
The Cuthberts replied to Deego's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
quote:Whatever you do, don't give a clue about parking (duh), or say "under a rock" when it's hidden in a boulder field. Otherwise you'll end up on the "useless hints" section of the Hunt/Unusual forum! I had to grin when I read the bit about rocks. However, when we started out with no maps and just a bit of software that gave N and W coords, the parking information was invaluable in strange areas.(Thanks Wombles). We have further used it (as with offsets) to guide a cacher through, what is hopefully, a nice route to the cache. These days, we tend to use maps so we don't start 'garden-hopping'. We can thank Huga for this as we had to backtrack quite a distance with his 'Playground' cache Andy -

Your GPS versus your Speedometer - need your input.

Just an thought Mark..... but will you be carrying any GC merchandise with you? We would be more than happy to buy a couple of the rocks off you and donate what would have been paid in postage to CIN instead. Andy and Dawn (Wiltshire's contribution to the chaos theory)

BUG: Can't change the cache coordinates !
The Cuthberts replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Website
Ah ! But is there a limit on the number of moves that a cache can make or could I just keep nudging the cache in 160m increments. Is a check also made for proximity to other caches automatically when a cache-owner tweaks the coords ?? Andy -
