  1.

But the problem with placing a great many is the maintenance. I do not know Team Marzipan, they may be the most thoughtful owners ever, but far too many cachers with a high ownership are also the owners of some of the worst caches. Far too many of the really bad caches I find are owned by owners with 50 or more active caches.

Oooo..... I must be placing "worse" caches without knowing it, as I have more than 50 :D:)

  2. For me I think its the sheer quantity of caches.

I used to get excited about a new cache appearing realising that a new cache meant that someone had found an amazing place that was in the local area I did not know about and was really please when I went there and signed the log.

Now a new cache appears, and I turn over and go back to sleep... gone are the days of FTF rushes.

Bring back decent walks like swinsty with decent sized caches and forget the "whoops I dropped a micro.. oh well I shall publish it mentality"

Yes I know I can ignore them, but you try driving down that road everyday with a cache pinging at you ! You sign them to get them off the list !

  3. Can I remind people to register geo-coins and TB's that were picked up in Harrogate

There are currently 511 items still logged into the event.

We have had a number of requests from TB and coin owners asking about the location of their trackables.

    Ta

  4. I have had a few emails requesting information relating to the 2007 travel bug race that was to end at the June 2008 event.

As this event did not take place due to me having to organise another event the race will continue until the next years event.

The date for your diary is:-

    JUNE 13th 2009

Those who wish to visit Harrogate from further afield the event will be upgraded to a camping event over that weekend and will be held at the Ripon Mega event campsite.

As well as mopping up local caches there will be the usual organised events, night caching, more Wherigo, Quiz's, etc

    Hope that helps..

    Cheers

  5. Sorry for not replying earlier, but the events have started and I have spent a lot of time out at camping events and tonight at the first event cache.

There is a specific room/(s) for trackables, BUT personal coins for discovery only KEEP TO YOUR PERSON... we can not be responsible for 1000 + people

There is no way we can keep an eye on all the coins.

    Does that clarify things

  7. What days next week do the first people start to arrive?

We are coming down on Wednesday and I know of a few coming down/up before us. Are there any folks arriving on the campsite this weekend?

    M

Its says this Mega Event thingy what ever it is is 1.5m east from my home co-ords...

I dont know if I can be bothered going... its a bit too far !!

If I dont have anything better to do like stay in bed I might turn up :unsure::blink:

Enjoy Harrogate, hopefully Madyokel has booked the weather !

    Robin :blink::blink::blink:

  8. A usefull feature for some I suppose, but I cant see myself using it:-

    1. I have run a query on Yorkshire this morning for all unforund caches and due to the size of Yorkshire some are 70 miles away !

    2. What happens when the cache publisher gets them in the wrong county.... 3 caches were published 5 miles away (deff in Yorkshire) and the person put them in North East... So these are not on the list

    3. As someone said before not very useful if you are near a border

I think I shall still continue to use the nearest unfound until someone points out how this feature is useful.

(awaiting people to point me in the right direction)

  9. And before anyone suggests it, no I'm not volunteering :D as we are likely to be moving home around this time next year :D . I would certainly be more than willing to lend a hand though.

Awww spoilsport.... I was ready with my quote "Well done for volunteering ..... :D:D:D "

  10. May I please add that once the Mega Event has been finished I shall be personally seeing that all the data I have collected including Registration, Geocoin sales, Hog Roast etc etc that we have been sent will be destroyed.

If any cacher has a particular problem regarding data, please contact me personally.

  11. There is no stopping you buying 3 coins

1 silver one to keep.... 1 gold one to keep.... another silver one to release.....

or even 4 coins..... 1 gold one to release...

If there are any left that is of course ! Dont rely on getting any on the day.... orders still open for pre-booking !

  12. It might be nice for the organising committee to contact the owners of nearby caches and remind them to put plenty of log pages in their caches before the event. At the Dutch event in April, some huge multi logs with 200 or more spaces were filled in a day.

    Already done !!!

Been on the list and locals reminded to "Upgrade boxes" ! Although how 200 signatures can be added to micro's we are a bit unsure ! Oh well if the new logs do fill up we will have to rely on cachers replacing the log papers on the day ! (HINT ! - take some paper with you !)

For caches on the To do list !

Watch the book marks on the mega event caching page...

I have started to pop on book marks... at current there are a couple of book marks for all the local walkable caches (incluing the new ones released for the event), one for a great countryside walk near harrogate.

Shortly there will be further ones added (a) near the camping event - very rural and yes I am planning (;) Our top 10/20 caches in the nearby vacinity...

    So watch the cache page...

  13. Hiya Dave

Do you have a price yet for haggis tatties and neeps per head?

    Mandy :D

I can confirm that we are still in communication with the pub and they are sourcing prices at present.. all I can say is that it will be in the region of the current menu prices for an average meal e.g. £7-£9 (I think !)

  14. I have just purchased the said machine and I am amazingly impressed... built for geocaching... amazing !

Load full GPX files straight from the cache page and after a hard caching trip, plug the GPS in and upload logs straight to the web pages are just a couple of the benefits..

Built in Wherigo that does not crash.....

Drawback.... screen reverts to a dim mode everytime you switch on... so low you cant see it !

Any other people using this machine and what do you think ?

  15. A few people have been asking about the North Yorkshire Meet which has now been held for 4 years on a row.

Due to my major involvement in the Mega event this year I have not organised the June event.

It will be back again third week in June 2009 !

In respect of the TB race that started last year I am planning to let it run until the 2009 event...

For results so far see here

    http://www.geocaching.com/track/search.asp...shire+Meet+2007

Please let me know if your race Tb is not on this list !

p.s. for a couple of you out there who have not released last years bugs... you still have a chance !

  16. So...

Whats the best on the market ?

    I need...

Navigation software... currently have Tom Tom

    Multimap can be loaded

    Integrated GPS

Able to download POI onto navigation software

can check on line for new caches ?

you get the picture... an all singing dancing machine...

I have looked at the new Garmin Colorado 300 but it does not seem to take multimap

    What about Mio A702 ?

Whats all singing all dancing the best ?

  17.

I'm not suggesting Chester is special - I believe that this should extend to caches in the walls of York, Bath and any other Roman City...

As far as I am aware there are no caches in the walls of York ! (anymore !) There was one but that has now gone !

Unless someone else can think of any !

But I do agree in my opinion they should not be used, and anyway I am surprised that anyone would get permission anyway !
