  1. Thanks so much to you both. I'll try each and see what suits me best. Thanks again.
  2. I'm wondering if there are maps listing earthcaches only? I would very much like to see something like this. It would be helpful when I travel to use the map as a guide without having to print out every earthcache in the state and having to manually place them on a paper road map. Did that make sense?
  3. Thank you for your help, both of you. Let me see if I got this right though...Even though it is archived and has gone off the map....my found icon disappears too? How often do they clean off the maps of the archived caches?
  4. Hello, I'm fairly new to the forums, but have a question which you probably have answered a million times already. I've noticed some of the caches I've found in the past are no longer showing on the map. What I usually see are disabled or archived icons that have been grayed out. What happened to those icons that have just disappeared off the map, and when they go, does my count go down too?
  5. I understood Keystone's nuance that I hadn't read the guidelines as required. I don't believe that its required to be intimately knowledgeable of every detail in the guidelines to be able to place a cache. I read the pertinent parts applicable to my placement carefully. I have not placed a power trail, nor do I want to, so that part of the guideline is not something I needed to dwell on. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who doesn't understand every nuance of the guidelines. As you can see in this instance, that this question has prompted a discussion showing that this section of the guidelines is 'fuzzy', leading to different interpretation. If my 'tone' was a little brusque I apologize , I didn't intentionally mean to cause acrimony and don't feel I should have been spoken to as I was. I thought a moderator was a mediator of sorts. One who tactfully tries to mediate between people when things get heated, and not someone who deliberately goes after someone, even if they did misspeak. I understand they are volunteers and probably encounter a lot of 'guff' from people, but it still doesn't excuse discourteous behavior of the moderator. I only misspoke, I'm not evil.
  6. Thank you tozainamboku for that well thought out and interesting answer. After being prompted to read the guidelines again, and having read these two great explainations, I think I understand the controversy. I was just curious about why people were getting their pants tied in knots about it.
  7. Thank you Moose Mob for a pertinent and civil answer. I have gone to the guidelines and am reading them better as we speak.
  8. Geeze, I just asked a simple question. I didn't intend to get my head chewed off. You are the reviewer, I'd expect you'd know the answer. I'm just the 'hider' and only 8 at that. Its reasons such as this that I rarely even post in the forums. Thanks, I'll find the answer elsewhere.
  9. I'm just curious what the definition of a power trail is. Is there somewhere in the guidelines that says you can't place a series of caches along a trail? And after reading some thread here, what is the power of a reviewer? Where is all this information listed so the average person can know all these unwritten rules?
  10. Thanks--speed is not my strong point *snicker*
  11. Okay Geoaware, thanks for letting me know. I'll forge ahead and hope for the best.
  12. Would someone consider posting an example of a request letter to give us newbies an idea of what is expected?
  13. Hi everyone, I've got a question I'd like to ask anyone who might know. I've already asked TerryDad2 and he doesn't know. I'd like to put a 'hold' on a spot I found where I'd like to create an earthcache. As it takes alot of time researching and creating the cache, I want to make sure no one else publishes one in the same spot before I do. Has anyone had any experience/problems with this before? Its my first attempt at an earthcache and am afraid its going to take some time. Thanks for any help
  14. For Smokey Bear Collector: Av: Sig: Wow, this is cool. Thx MizDeedz Is it possible to change his hat colors to tan with red lettering and black band? Can you change California from green to yellow? (0ops! I didn't realize I was using my sisters account...I am really SBC) Thanks again, I'm so stoked!
  15. Hi fearless0, We live in West Valley City. Hope to see you soon at an event! Look at the Utah page, the UTAG Spring event is up now. It's in May in Utah county. Lynda GBOTS
  16. Greetings from Utah-- My name is Karen although I'm known in the geocaching world as Fearless0. Its more of a reminder of what I need to become more than what I am. Its just a name i've had since my early 20's. I used to be an internet chatter YEARS ago but when I discovered I spent too much time on the internet, I quit. I'm here tonight because my brother (Smokey Bear Collector) told me to come check this out. So here I am. Smokey and I started caching back in September (?) and try to get together a couple times and do some caching. Its hard as I live in Utah, and he lives in California. But we try. We always have a great time together. As far as geocoins go, I've discovered I LOVE GEOCOINS! They are such beautiful pieces of art. I've found when I find one I sure have a hard time passing it along (though of course I do). But I'm in agreement with the others--I don't see the point in keeping one permanetly. My question is: How do you go about making one yourself? It costs so much money!
