  1. I have tried this now on several computers, and still nothing. I have ameritech DSL and Internet Explorer 6.0. I also called a friend and had him try the links in Jeremy's post, and still nothing. Detroit has had major wind storm in the last 15 hours, so i wonder if the internet is broke here in Detroit.
  2. Living On Earth website is has been down awhile.
  3. HELP HELP im not getting anything Jeremy Your links are not working on any computer here, also www.npr.org is leaving me high and dry. Can I get a link somehow? Even "Living ON Earth" does not come up, when I click on it's link. Too many broken links here, but i want to hear it
  4. Worst one I had, was falling through the ICE, trying to get to a geocace, but at least the water was only 2 feet deep. Somehow my StarTac cellphone survived after being completely underwater. I did drive all the way home very wet.
  5. A microcache could be a tag like you find hanging from new clothes, hanging in a tree with the coordinates to the next cache. To small would be the need of a microscope, to find the cache.
  6. My answer to the poll: None of the above. I was doing alot of searching for my GPS Information Page and was doing a Google search for GPS fun, and got this site and also the The Degree Confluence Project website. I created my webpage on May 31, 2001, and then started Geocaching July 1, 2001.

    Averageing

Averaging around trees can be problematic. It would be best to do a few 5 minute averaged waypoints, at different times, then average those waypoints. I found that averaging for 5 minutes on my Garmin GPS V, gives me a good reading, for when i place a cache. Problem with trees and averaging, is that the GPS unit may switch satellites during an averaging, caused by intermittant blocking of the Sats by the trees. I have a cache that I averaged a waypoint over a Survey Marker, and it was within 6 ft of it(GPS V), and 16 feet of the marker, with the GPS 315. The Survey Marker was out in the open, so my GPS V gave me a good reading, when i averaged for 5 minutes. Here is the cache: NGS Markers & GPS Accuracy Check Geocache
  8. Best bet, is a GPS 315, with the latest firmware upgrade(vers. 3.15), which is a Good geocaching unit. Other GPS units have more of an other purpose: etrex's - Good for Running, Jogging, or hiking. GPS 76/Map76 - Good for Boating. Meridian units - Good for all but Running. GPS V - Good for all, but pricey. etc If you wanted to track yourself on an exercise program, get the eTrex. For all around basic use get the low end Meridian Green. For use in unknown areas, get a mapping unit. So for just Geocaching, get the GPS 315, for all around economy, get the low end meridian, or an eTrex.

  10. Wich one i think is best: The Gargellan Meridian GPS V, with the memory cards of the Meridian's, the high resolution display of the GPS V, Autorouting, and the Electronic compass of the Vista, all in one unit. For real: I go with Garmins because I like all the info on the Trip Computer page, like on the eTrex Vista. If the Magellan Meridian had a Trip Computer page the same as the Vista's, I would have the Meridian Platnium GPS. The vista is a great unit for Jogging or running outdoors. Also what make a Garmin better, is that you can do a screen capture of the GPS to the PC.

  12. I just wished that Garmin came out with a 32 megabyte GPS V, that you can load with all the maps you need. For instance, you might need to drive from Detroit Mich to Boston Mass, and do some caches on the way.
  13. You can save different map combinations to your hard drive, but only can upload 1 map combination at a time to the GPS. This is what makes the eMap a better unit, in that you can load in different map sets into each memory module, then change the memory module when you are driving into another area.
  14. What I did was to subscribe to Geocaching, using my User Name That I used to Hide and find Geocaches. I had Wondered about this also.
  15. I signed up for Geocaching on July 1st 2001, and took a CD Recordable disk and put in a Book of Mormon in it. The cache was: Rotary Tree Geocache. Check my post on July 1st 2001. By the way, I was Geoffrey in these forums.
