  1. So I am stuck in a loop with Map Source. I accidentally clicked on Topo USA for the map when I opened it and can not get it to open, it wants me to insert a topo disc which I no longer have. I hate to re-install it because last time it was such a pain in the arse to get my City Maps unlocked. What is the trick? I open the program and I can not cancel or switch from TOPO to CITY. Any ideas???? thanks.....
  2. I may be in over my head trying this but do want to give it a shot. The problem I am having is that I cant even get past the download for the POI loader for the mediafare website. I get there and click on the embeded websites and it just gives me some links. Really not feeling too smart right now! I recently got the NUVII 200W Rooks
  3. So I loaded some active logs in EasyGPS which ended up being in tow separate segments. I am only interested in one of the segments. I cant seam to select one segment of the active log and split or delete it so that I only end up with one loop. any help??? Thanks, Rooks
  4. Cool a new forum to check out and absorb more info. Might have to ugrade my melon processor and capacity :-) Thanks!!, Rooks
  5. Well now, I feel slightly smarter than I did before this post. Slightly, I still have a long ways to go! Worked like a charm. I do have a question on the GSAK software that might be answered in this same post. Can I run one subscribed version on two computers? Specifically, my work PC and my home PC. Thanks Guys!, Rooks
  6. I must be missing something? I thought I could download a benchmark.loc form geocaching.com and convert that to a .gpx file which would then have the correct name of the benchmark for the waypoint? Rooks
  7. I downloaded a benchmark *loc file and dragged it into the bmgpx icon which created me a *.gpx file. When I try to open that in EasyGPS it says the XML contains errors, has an invalid character. Will take a look at your shameless plug. By plug I mean NGSGPX :-) Rooks
  8. I am trying to figure out how to load a benchmark*.loc file to my unit and have it retain the info such as the name. It works fine loading it on GE, keeps the original name. I have the a version of the bmgpx.exe and it creates a gpx but then I can not open it. Is this a Vista issue? Thanks, Rooks
  9. Nice Trailgators, thanks. I guess it just is not going to work like I thought it might? So how did you make the hyperlink to the geocaches so that they can just click on it?? Rooks
  10. So I would like to set a few caches out as a multi cache, I seem to be a little foggy. My plan was to give the first one which will have the coords for the second one for them to key in manually. From the second one it will be the same, have the coords for them to key in manually. Do I post a cache for each stage or is it all considered one cache? How do I hide the coords for the actual location so that they will have to key them in to find it?? Thanks, Rooks
  11. Thanks Jenischmeni. I will look into GSAK and the POI loader. Looked at some recent talk about the macros, WAAYYyy to advanced for me!! Wish I had that understanding and was able to use this stuff more efficiently!!! Rooks
  12. Is there a way to change the text size of the bearing readout on a route in Easy GPS? Thanks, Rooks
  13. Well short on time, as always, so I just plugged the NUVII into my pc and was able to drag and drop my *.gpx along with some pictures onto the unit. It loaded the points in consecutive order from #1 which isnt great, but at least I can now see them on screen and hopefully do a go to. Out the door, thanks, Rooks
  14. So, I lost my bag with my owners manual which sucked! I go to Garmins site and they only have the quick start manual. I want to use it to navigate me by roads to geocaches then I can break out my Vista, also without an owners manual (ARGH!!) Anyway, now that I have vented a bit, how can I load my .gpx onto the NUVII. Thanks. Rooks
  15. Thanks guys. No, I do not have to have Word or Excel on the unit. It main purpose would be paperless Caching, I just was not sure if I needed it for that. Rooks
  16. KoosKoos, my desktop does not have a serial port, USB only, and is Windows Vista. Will the Palm VII still work for me? I see some on ebay for around $30.00. Thanks, Rooks
  17. Your funny Rambler!. Thanks for the laugh!! Sure is. When you meet someone on the trail walk right up to them real close. When you get right up in their space they'll freeze, not knowing your intent. Lean in and whisper "Find it yet?" right in their ear. If it's a female add "Darling"
  18. I am looking for the latest info on something to use for paperless caching. I got bit by not printing out all of the descriptions for the caches I loaded on our recent Yosemite trip so I missed several. I saw earlier today in Staples that they had a Palm that was about $100.00 but it did not support Word or Excel. Is there something for around $100.00 that will work for this. I have Windows Vista. I am considering the Palm Centro but we have a few months before our current contract runs out. Thanks, Rooks
  19. So is there like a code or key word when you run across another person on the trail that appears to be a fellow geocacher? Something like Geo in place of hello where they might be able to finish the second half or continue on back to you?? Rooks
  20. So is there a simple way to add just a waypoint to get me close to the cache without adding all of the cache info? thanks
  21. Wholly Cow Red, all of that stuff is waaayyy beyond me! I was hoping it would be more straight forward. Thanks for the link! Rooks P.S. Nice Land Cruiser!
  22. Can waypoints/geocaches be added to this unit and can it be used to get you close to the cache? I have a trip coming up where I could use this but can not justify buying it only for the trip. Thanks, rooks
  23. So I have a little trip planned which involves traveling along lot of forestry roads in a very remote area. Obviously City Select will not have these. Will the regular Top maps work for navigating along these, do they contain for forestry roads? What about the National Park Map sets that Garmin offers, are these topo maps with a plus or do they ont cover the National Parks? I am using the Vista HCx. Thanks, gr
  24. thks guys. It was mainly the durability of the unit that I was worried about. Sounds like it should be fine. CacheOn gr
  25. So I have been on a few hunts with my mountain bike where I rode past them and had to double back. Today it occurred to me that I could listen for the proximity alarm but I am not sure that I could hear it and I am not sure if my unit would even work while in my pack or pocket? I have a Garmin Vista and see that they have handle bar mounts but I dont know that it could handle the vigorous bouncing as we have very rocky terrain here. Some times it feels like my teeth may rattle loose :-) Do any of you have any tips or ideas? Thanks, gr
