  3. This picture is another from our trip to Fort Sumter in Charleston, SC. As we left the boat I liked how the waves hit the fort. Fort Moultrie (another of Charleston's forts) and Fort Sumter face each other and guarded the inlet. It is from the British attacking the fort that South Carolina gets it's state tree. The outer walls of Fort Moultrie were made out of palmetto trees and the cannon balls could not penetrate the walls ... hence the "Palmetto State". Charleston was also the scene of Blackbeard's blockade in May of 1718. Blackbeard managed to capture a boat of prominent town citizens. He then held the for ransom ... a chest of medicine. The hostages were later released (supposedly without their clothing) and Blackbeard continued to sail northward. It was also in Charleston at White Point that Stede Bonnet ("the gentleman pirate") was executed on Dec. 10, 1718. We were in the Cherry Grove section of Myrtle Beach, SC looking for an earthcache. After we found it my father and I traveled about 5 blocks down the street to this location. It is the Northern-most beach in South Carolina that is accessible by the general public. The only beach farther north is privately owned and used by the university student of a near by college to study marine life and ecology. This beach is located in Georgetown, SC. It is near a cache that we were not able to locate. Although, it didn't help that we were looking at the cache page for an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT cache! Later found out we had been right on top of it, but did not look there due to the description given in the "page". We are determined to get it next time we go back. Oh well ... we may not have gotten the cache, but the view was amazing! In case you haven't guessed ... I love history and culture!
  4. I love taking pictures! I am by no means a pro when it comes to photography. In fact my love actually comes from traveling WITHOUT a camera (my camera broke enroute). Now I make sure I have my camera on me at all time, because you never know what's going to be around the corner! I usually have the most random subjects in my collection. Here are a few taken recently, and I hope everyone can find one that appeals to them. Lake Robinson in South Carolina: In Georgetown, South Carolina: In Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (hidden along a park trail): In a park in Elloree, South Carolina: In Charleston, South Carolina: In Charleston, South Carolina (one of my dad's favorites): Georgetown, South Carolina: Fort Sumter, South Carolina: More are sure to follow. Thank you for giving me a chance to share some of my favorite photos!

  7. Brandon says that Deimos is one of Mars' moons. He would be correct too! Glad to know that our future in astonomy is so secure He initially said that he didn't know what Deimos was and then he said "No, wait. Deimos is one of Mars' moons." Major props to him I do give! (Whispering) I had to do a little research on planets and our solar system, since the only thing I remembered was the little sentence for the planets ... My Very Earthly Mother Just Served Us Nine Pickles ... mercury, venus, earth, mars, jupiter, saturn, uranis, neptune, and pluto. Sadly since they've taken pluto off the planet list I wonder what mom served us now?
  8. Brandon says that Deimos is one of Mars' moons. He would be correct too! Glad to know that our future in astonomy is so secure
  9. a wolf and Wolverine? deer and moose? I may need to think more on this one! Although I read somewhere that a moose is the largest deer animal in the world. And I know beavers swim in the water and their dens have underwater openings, but do they actually live on land since the den is dry and they breath air??? Aaaah ... the questions that may be asked.

  13. My thoughts are with you at this time. My grandmother on my mother's side passed away before I was born. I am luck in that I still have my grandmother on my father's side. She lives one neighborhood away from where I grew up, and I know I don't see her as much as I should. There are so many memories of her: going on vacations together, holidays, every day events, gardening, ect... Grandma loved gardening. She can't get out the house as much as she use to so now she grows plants instead of her huge veggie garden. She is the woman who taught me to cross-stitch and other crafts. She began my addiction to puzzles. But most importantly she engaged my imagination with wonderful stories. Stories about her childhood, meeting and marrying my grandfather, and fairytales. Everything was fair game to be used. I think my favorite memory is of her telling my how she and my grandfather met, which I ask her to retell often. The most recent occasion, we were sitting and having dinner, while waiting for her meeting to begin. I asked her to tell the story and her entire face lit up. My grandfather died in 93' and they had been married for 40+ years. She moved to our town from her hometown due to a job she had gotten at the local bank. She ended up living with a co-workers family and my grandfather was her brother. At this time my grandfather was in the NAVY and it was WWII. Every member of the household would take turns talking to him when he called, and one day the phone was handed to my grandmother. She was told to talk to him while another child was fetched to the phone. It was the first time my grandmother ever talked to him. About six months later my grandfather came home, and everyone had gone to the train station to meet him. Now comes my grandmother's favoite part of the story. They were all standing in a line waiting to greet him when he came up from behind them! One by one he went down the line giving everyone a kiss. When he got to my grandmother ... he kissed her to! It was the first time she had ever met my grandfather. According to her about six months later they were married! I remember their house being a place of love and laughter. I have very few actual memories of my grandfather, but he lives on through family stories and pictures. My grandmother never misses a chance to tell us about him, and she get this look that is so hard to describe. She gets this far away look and at times giggles like a school girl as she tells of some antic my grandfather did. Grandma is also the type of grandmother that is so proud of her family, and tells everyone she knows how we're doing. I am lucky in that I still have time to create more memories with her.
  14. Wow ... Thanksgiving. The word alone makes me think of my mom's side of the family. Okay, time for a little background. My mother's childhood growing up wasn't the greatest. They were poor, moved from town to town (anywhere their dad could find work), and were never sure what to expect from day to day. There were five children in the family, and everyone was expected to do their share or face punishment. Fast forward 30+ years. The only ones left from the family are my mother, one sister, and one brother. My aunt and mother have remained close throughout the years, and there is not a year that goes by we do not have Thanksgiving lunch/dinner together. Some of my favorite memories are of my mother and aunt in the kitchen cooking and the cousins running around. In reality my cousins are more like siblings since we are all within a few years of each other (the kids ages countdown in order), and we spent almost every weekend at my aunts house growing up! While sitting to eat everyone would talk about people they knew, the local gossip, and family that hadn't been seen in a while. My mother is the only one that moved out of "small town" life, so when we were visiting, EVERYONE knew her and wanted to know how she had been. This ultimately led to comments about how big my brother and I had gotten, and the last time we had been seen we were running around in diapers, knee high to a grasshopper, or insert any other southern colloquialism meaning to get bigger We kids could never get away with ANYTHING without someone knowing who we belonged to I suppose in reality they truly are the quintessential Southern family. They taught me to be thankful for everything I have, and that time with family and friends was the most important thing. My family has always accepted me for who I was, even during the horrible teenage years, and never asked for anything in return. They have given me the strength, courage, support, knowledge, and confidence to accomplish anything I set my sights on. And, never have they not been there when I have needed them. So what do I thank my creator for ... My family. Standard answer I know, but the truth. There is a saying, "You can pick your friends, but not your family". Well given the choice I would pick mine, because even when I am frustrated beyond belief I know they'll be there and ultimately ... they are MINE. For better or worse, through yelling and crying, they are all MINE
  15. Ya know, I find myself saying that quite a bit as well. However, no one ever believes me Another favorite saying of mine ... I'm not lost, my destination just hasn't found me yet.
  16. My second attempt shall be ... Halloween Smiles Enjoy and Happy Halloween
  17. Happy Halloween! This is my first attempt at the video. Hope it works They're ALIVE! ENJOY!
  18. coins came today! they are beautiful.
  19. I was geocaching over the weekend and ran across some swag that reminded me of tsun's Anasazi's Geocoin Spirit Dweller. The moment I saw it this coin jumped into my head! Now, tell me you wouldn't have jumped to this coin yourselves. I was shocked to have found this! Maybe one day I will be able to see a tsunrisebey in person, but seeing as I cannot make it to GCF this year I guess I will have to wait for the extras to go on sale. By the way, remember everyone there will be so excited to see you and meet the designer of all the coins they have been fighting over Once you get behind the table I'm sure you will do fine. Good luck and have fun at GCF! And to everyone else ... well I really really won't like you that day should you be lucky enough to attend. But please have a little bit of fun for those of us who could not make it
  20. I received one of these in the mail a few days ago, but I wasn't sure what it was . The coin was packaged with other coins I received, and came as a suprise upon first glance (the other coins I knew about and this one was an extra ... hmm). I ran across this thread today and suddenly the coin made sense. It's number is 185 and looks just like Chickahominy's picture. Thank you to the one who sent my coin! You know who you are All I can say is ... BIG virtual hug to you from a jumping, excited, coin addict!
  21. I absolutely love this coin! Make sure to keep us updated on the progress and (though my bank account is growling at me) put me on the list to get one of these! The good thing (hopefully) is by the time the coin goes on sale I will be in my next months coin budget. Oh well ... regardless ... it's a must have so ... I guess I need to start picking up overtime a work, huh?!?!?!
  22. I really really really like this coin! When I first saw it my mouth dropped due to a recent conversation between myself and another cacher ... polar bears and elephants being mentioned. This coin reminds me of the discovery channel/animal planet documentaries that my father and I use to watch on TV! BEATIFUL! I cannot wait the final product to be out and for these to go on sale
  23. Received mine the other day! Thanks for getting them to me so fast. The newest coin is beautiful! You have yet to disappoint, and I cannot wait to see your next effort!
  24. Received my coins the other day! I have never seen ANY of the coins I received! Thank you so much, I love them. I think my favorite would have the be the coin with the VW bug on it. I laughed when I saw the back because ... well ... I realised how TRUE it was! Thank you so much for getting them to me so fast! Will have to wait and see if I can participate in the next sell ... why do paychecks take so long anyway? PS - a few didn't have activation information with them. Do you happen to know that information? Not really a big deal if not, I just thought I'd ask.
