  1. Apologies if this is a duplicate. I looked but didn't see one. Anyway, I logged a cache this morning (10/11/10) at around 9:00 AM. After I completed the log, a screen came up saying I get a 'souvenir' for helping complete the 10/10/10 goal. Why? I logged today on the eleventh, not the tenth. EDIT: I might as well mention that I don't use a smart phone.
  2. I was on a camping trip with my Boy Scout troop, and our leader was telling us: "There's a geocache nearby. Let's go find it!" Didn't take much after that.
  3. Thanks for sharing the article. It definitely lays out some very interesting options for puzzles. I'm impressed by all people involved, including Regan.
  4. I'm trying to avoid these for now. I'm not the most experienced cacher, so it always takes me a while to find things which makes it really hard to look inconspicuous. If I do go after an urban cach in a high traffic area, I do it early in the morning when the traffic isn't high, or late at night.
  5. I guess I break the mold, then, as I'm 18 years of age. Granted I only have 24 finds, but its hard for me to get out. I do so when I can, though.
  6. The coolest container I've found was probably a piece of round tupperware hidden inside the bottom of a hollowed out stump. When the stump is flipped over, the lid is disguised and it blends in perfectly. One that comes as a close second was a container in the form of a homemade small wooden house (talking maybe 1.5 by 3 inches here), hidden along a fence line behind a wall of bushes. It took me a while to find.
  7. I do it for a couple reasons. One reason is that it's actually able to get me outside, and I go to places that I ordinarily never would have considered going. At my university, for example, I've found several caches located at monuments that I ordinarily never would have gone to (well, maybe I would have gone eventually, but caching gets me there quicker). I also do it because the thrill of the hunt provides a nice escape from schoolwork and life in general. And its fun, but I'm sure you all knew that already. My university actually offers a Freshman seminar course in GPS technology, with geocaching as part of the course. I wasn't able to take it, unfortunately.
  8. Achievement: Discovering the sport. I received my first GPS on Christmas, and have so far found the caches within reasonable walking distance of my house (which is only about 3 caches total. But hey, everyone starts small, right?) The biggest blunder would probably be not remembering the other 3 or 4 caches I've found. I found them around the Point Reyes (California) area, but can't for the life of me recall their names/locations. I'd log them if I could.
  9. It depends. Around the neighborhood I only bring a Garmin 60CSx and a pencil/pen. If I were to go out and find some while hiking, I would bring water, food, knife, extra clothes, etc. Pretty much what's on the BSA 10 essentials list. I never take anything, so I never bring anything to leave.
