The great thing about GPSrs is that I can get lost with even more accuracy, I find it especially useful in places such as Dartmoor.
Have almost misplaced the car on a night cache above Minehead, having ducked and dived, following firetacks I forgot to mark the car; and you cannot follow the 'tacks back again.... I really wondered how I was ever going to find it again, then I remembered parking next to the start point that was given at the cache location. Always remember to mark parking spot

If down in the South West, there is Ernie B's Coast to Coast which I did in a day on a bicycle. It goes from Uphill (Weston) down to West Bay (Bridport). It is mostly along quiet roads, and diversions can be made. A pleasant day with mostly roadside finds,
The only downside is that it is not circular, and you need to pedal back, or have someone to give you a lift.

The Woodland Trust protesting against selling off woodlands is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
There were two small parcels of woodland that The WT sold off last year, just outside where I live in Somerset,
That said I must admit that it would be a shame for all FC land to be sold off as I have had many lovely walks through their forests, perhaps selling off the family brass (having sold the silver, gold, and bronze..)
The value of the land would be insignificant in comparison of the deficit

Having been out on Dartmoor at the weekend two pet hates reared their heads.
Micros on the tors of dartmoor.....
Not a problem unless you get a useless hint. Two this weekend. 'Look at the spoiler photo' No good as we were on the moors of devon. No iPhone to download them. The second one cache had a hint 'Look at my Profile' Same response. We are not cachers who ignore hints completely, but we do try and find without hints, only referring to hints if we cannot find after 10 minutes or so of looking. Unless you had decoded these before you left home you would never have know what to do.
And dog poo bags, Nappies etc in fact the disgusting, filthy members of the british public who think the countryside is actually just a big dustbin.

We leave a laminated FTF certificate, maybe a 1st place badge or plastic medal (Sainsburys), occasionally a plastic trophy cup (Tesco)
In our larger hides, we may also leave a 2TF wooden spoon for the FTF Hounds
Many FTF seekers are only looking for the blank log book but we enjoy providing FTF treats for those cachers who are on one of their first FTF's
My cutlery drawer is full of those wooden spoons
I set a series, but released them over a period of time, I left an unactivated travel bug (I bought about 30 of them off ebay by accident - as you do) I did ask if the FTF had already claimed one of them to leave it for the next finder, No way of policing this, but those FTF hounds did as they were asked

My resolution will be the same as last year/this year - That is to find an average of one cache per day over the next twelve months, I managed this in 2009, but will fail in 2010, falling about 35 short, the weather around christmas - snow on the ground, about 8 inches deep making caches difficult to get to by car, and then nigh on impossible to find under the snow. An option was to collect some on the days after the snow had gone, but I have the Lurgy and am bed-ridden. Ho-hum
The other resolution I did make in 2008 was to have a 'double digit' day each month, that is to have a day out caching where I find at least ten caches, that would help the one-a-day average

Absoluteoy love my 60CSx, would not exchange for anything, we have a lot of history, I found my first cache with it, and now at 1028, It has accompanied me on every find, so I would be devastated should it stop working, or I leave it anywhere.
That said the downside is the lack of Paperless caching, and not being able to host OS maps; Looking at what is on the market I would definitely go for a 62CSx, and I have a secret hoping my 60CSx develops a fault
; then I could justify a new one, but would still carry the old faithful one in its coffin!Certainly would go for the newer one

Perhaps we are using the common 'Puzzle' name for these caches, but from memory they are mystery caches, which is a coverall for these caches. I have done them where you have to solve a problem to get the coordinates. This is what I would refer to as a 'Puzzle' cache.
Equally I have done bonus caches, which have required reading coordinates off a travelbug, or collecting the parts of the coordinates from other caches. There are no puzzles included in these variety of mystery caches, just the challenge of collecting this information.
Night caches also are often in the 'puzzle' category. The phrase 'night cache' indicates the need for a torch, and as such this should be indicated, I would be miffed if I turned up to find a cache and once at GZ realised I needed a specialised piece of kit. If I were looking for a chirp based cache (not having a chirp enabled GPSr) I would be very upset. These things should be mentioned in the rubric
Lets leave the Puzzle to be a subset of Mystery caches.

Down here in Somerset/Dorset Ernie B has put together the Uphill to Westbay series 'The Channel Link Series", this is a sixty mile route along quiet roads (mostly) with 56 caches (plus a few others that can be collected on the way) All are cache and dashes, (one or two have a fifty yard walk)
I did this on 13th August this year - well almost, I managed to buckle my wheel 2 miles from the finish
I had to do the last bit in the car. So it can be done, a couple of killer hills on the way. The only down side is it is a one way trip, and you need someone to pick you at the far end of it.The first in the series is: Channel Link 1

I don't recall Underground Trains In Somerset being a water pipe type cache - it was just a tube fixed to a fence. The bottom unscrews, I seem to remember....
I did not try to unscrew it - Having done the water technique on the two others like this in Somerset I used it here, probably helped having 5 litres of water in the back of the car. Seemed a sensible way at the time.

I need to buy good boots, suitable for wet conditions and comfortable for short walks (5 - 10 miles). As I am heavy and destroyed many pairs of lesser quality boots, I would like to find qualified people to give me the right advice. Is there a specialist shop in the Brighton / Portsmouth area?
I would reccommend 'Cotswold Outdoors' They have a shop in Chicester, as well as Southampton. I have not used either of those, but the one in Keswick had very knowlegdable staff, and as will spend as long with you as you want - I guess probably best to avoid Saturday or Sunday - try the website I think it is www.cotswoldoutdoor.com.
The last pair I bought Zamberlan leather boots (not Cheap!!!!) are 4 years old, and have been all around the Lake District, North Penines, Dartmoor as well as a trip across China from Kathmandu to Bangkok, and on to New Zealand. Well worth every penny.
Get a good pair, that fit well, consider the custom insoles, and you will wonder why you haven't had a pair like it before

Two big helps in the comfort of walking
1. As mentioned custom insole, I have them in my boots - fitted in a 'Cotswolds' outdoor shop, They are worth every penny, my boots then become part of my foot, no slipping/sliding, and no blisters (I did walk my boots in a bit, but took not time at all)
2. Walking Poles - You can go for something as cheap as a seasoned hazel stick from a hedge, to an extendable shock absorbing one from a shop such as that mentioned above. These help limit the impact of gong down hills, and I find also help 'push' along

I have my 100finds geocoin that I don't want to have to worry about losing.
If you have the coin in your possession - that is you have not set it off on its travels; or you can retrieve it - You can simply place the coin in your collection.
This is done by ensuring the coin in your inventory, ie grab it.
Then going to your Trackables inventory there is an option to place in your collection, click on this; Hey Presto
At events you may take the coin for people to discover, and will not keep appearing in the trackables window when logging a cache find etc

Life is too short to worry about these things - I would have left a note rather than a DNF - as I would have found the cache. In this case I would let it stand unless there was something awkward in retrieving the cache, for example twenty feet up a cliff, or hanging under a bridge.
If the cache 'finder' wants to claim this as a cache find that is up to him, I would let it be. There are no hard and fast rules to this game, it is up to individuals as to how they play it
Ultimately it is up to you, but I would let it stand.
