  1. Are you looking for mmo 1.0, 2.7, or 3.4 I probably could send you a copy.
  2. Head right to here http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/ and look in tutorials for how to load maps to your nuvi. Search in custom maps and you will find a 24k map for Washington and other maps you may want to try. After that ask all the questions you need here or at gpsfiledepot. Ken of the kentwoodkrew
  3. I've been fiddling with this combo option and I seem to notice, if I create a GSAK/Nuvi file that contains less than 500 caches "I think" I should be able to load the same file both as a POI loader and drag the .gpx file to the /Garmin/GPX folder. But when I try this the Nuvi doesn't seem to detect the dragged over file.. Can anyone else confirm this? I think what is happening is, the GSAK/Nuvi macro is outputting a .gpx file in the older 1.0 format, and the Nuvi needs a 1.1 format or it is not visible in the favorites section? Hi. I was wondering how you got the topo map to look so good. Next step is to shrink those geocache icons.
  4. Of your choices only the oregon 300 has an electronic compass. The price for a venture hc seems high. You don't need a map package as free maps will do fine.
  5. Settings/Navigation, then click the menu options on the right - not sure how to describe the icon - the three horizontal lines... Then click "Map Info" to choose. But make sure you don't upload maps to the 295 itself - they should go on a Micro SD card in the slot on the gps. I'd be quite concerned that uploading to the 295 would overwrite the onboard maps. Many thanks! I could not find that button to select maps. Once again google searches fail to answer my simple idiot questions. I can select maps now. Now can I make them look better? Can I thin down those contour lines and show the elevation?
  6. Kentwood, Use the search function to look for the keywords: "Nuvi, Paperless, GSAK macro". If you Google search: "Nuvi True Paperless Caching" you should find the original instruction page for the macro. Also, if you are running Window 7 go to the GSAK forum for more pointers. The old macro instructions were for earlier versions of Windows and there are a few ammendments on how to make the old macro work on Windows 7. You'll need GSAK, of course. Thanks. I have the caches working and will hit the GSAK forum to see if I can improve the process. I still can't get any maps I add to show up or find any page to select them. I looked at the gpsdepot tutorial but I can't find any map icon anywhere.
  7. I am totally baffled as to setting up mine for geocaching. I installed a free topo map using Basecamp and tried some on a micro sd card with no luck. I could not get them to work or even figure out how to try. Thanks for some help.
  8. I couldn't resist a reasonable electronic toy for christmas so I ordered one. I need some help with state of the art paperless geocaching and adding topo maps with this model as I know nothing about nuvis. I could use some help so I can impress my naysaying buddy on christmas and I won't be opening the 295 till that morning.
  9. Can this model display a compass rose page pointing to a cache. If not what do you do. I have never owned a dedicated driving model so I don't know how to use them for geocaching.
  10. The oregon 450 is the way to go.Glad to tell you how to set it up right if you want.
  11. I would say jump on that rei vista hcx sale. You might want to look at a dakota 20 on sale but the vista I had was probably just as good.
  12. The venture hc will work just fine but you will be much happier with a paperless Dakota 20. It is well worth the $80 more if the deal is still going. http://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-Dakota-2...S-P2156C78.aspx Can't tell you anything about the vendor. You can fill that thing up with great free maps and full descriptions of caches. Contact me for advice on maps. Paperless really saves you lots of time and effort.
  13. Hi. I would suggest using utorrent to get the ibycus canada map. I downloaded it when I was selling an etrex to someone from Canada. Utorrent works well. When you install it the program will associate itself with torrent files. Click on the ibycus torrent file and utorrent will start downloading. Easy! I can send you the setup file for utorrent and the torrent file for the ibycus canada maps if you want.
  14. I am making some small maps to go with a geocache that will help keep people on the right side of a poorly marked boundary. There won't be any big problem if they wander over it but I thought it would be a nice touch to go with the theme of "forbidden borders".Like its 1969, "Apocalypse Now", don't cross into Cambodia. The owners just don't want you to go into the central unsafe area which is very obvious and deep. I have made a raster map for late model garmins and a vector map for old explorists and tritons. I was just wondering if the latter works on the new explorists. Any volunteers? I am working on a map for rasterless garmins. I would like to make versions for delorme and lowrance if possible but don't know anything about making maps for them.
  15. Explorist XL which quickly lost waas ability when I cleared the memory. The current oregon 450 with free maps works fine
  16. I clicked on "send to my gps" on a cache page and the cache popped right up on my Venture HC screen. No problems and no gsak etc involved. First look for the cache as a waypoint. I think that is how it worked with the old software. Then use the garmin webupdater. I forget but you may have to update to see the cache under geocaches. Oh, you are looking for the caches gc code and not the name. Show those newbies a good time!
  17. I got this one to work but had some scares. I would suggest waiting for the next one
  18. At the very least I would suggest a delorme pn-20. Paperless caching and driving maps included though it is a little slow in updating directions. There are some reasonable deals on ebay. Better yet would be a cheaper oregon or dakota. Look for good deals on older models. There are lots of free maps for them. Just ask me for advice on that.
  19. I think you made the right choice if you can handle the small screen. Same size as the vista and venture. My old eyes need at least an oregon. Thank you all for the vast amount of information and replies. I received more information than I had hoped for! I did what Team_Searchgeo did and decided to go up a level and ordered the PN-40 since it seem most logical, in terms of spending and features. Since it does include TOPO (on Garmin, it cost $99). I hope I selected a good handheld.
  20. Are they going to be available in the USA any time soon. I would love to check out an aventura with that big bright screen.
  21. Delete caches by name on the GPSr. Show caches by name when connected to your computer and looking to delete them.
  22. How good are your eyes? The dakota has a smaller screen and lower resolution That face is supposed to be squinting.
  23. Hi there. The main advantage I got from my 400t maps was park and gameland boundaries. The free maps for NC that I have don't show them well. I am very happy with my new 450 but I did find a way to get those boundaries. The money is better spent for driving maps. Again there are ways around for that.
  24. Try it you might like it. I found it very useful wandering around some gamelands a few weeks back here in the eastern US. Around Falls Lake in North Carolina to be more precise. Not too huge clearings and the little used roads between them showed up fine. When the heat got too much my shortcut back was obvious. Well worth the money. You cannot get the good detail for any reasonable area from GAC.
  25. Using birdseye with my oregon 450. Well worth the money. For a normal idiot it is a lot easier to get great maps from birdseye than MAC. Thanks to the mobile atlas creator people but birdseye works for me.
