  1. I have a used, but in excellent condition, Delorme PN-40 that comes with a ZAGG screen protector, cable, and the Topo 9 DVD's.

I am selling it because I would like to upgrade my unit. The only damage or blemish to the unit is on the in/out button, which really isn't even noticeable. The black has rubbed off just a bit from being in the case I carry it in, not for sale. It seemed to rub inside it if I put it in with the screen facing the back of the case. It has always had the ZAGG screen protector on it from day one. It has very few hours on it because I used it in conjunction with my 60csx.

I am asking $175.00 for it and that includes shipping to the continental USA only. I can provide pictures on request.

Email me from my profile or PM me.

    Thanks for looking.

  2. I have a brand new and never been opened Garmin Dakota 10 bundle. The package contains the following items: Dakota 10, Lanyard, USB cable, Owner's manual on disk, Quick start manual, Bike mount, City Navigator North America DVD.

I won this item at a crab feed and really don't want or need it. This item is currently going for just over $200 on Amazon, make a decent offer and it's yours. Shipping will be included on whatever price is negotiated on.

I can provide pictures if needed but as I mentioned, unit is brand new and sealed in that plastic packaging. Only way to open the package is to cut it open.

    Thanks for looking.

  3. What you need is serial to USB adaptor. From what I understand, never used one, they sometimes do not work. How much are you willing to spend on a used GPSr?

Looking at my local craIgslist page I found several decent units from $75 - $250 with all sorts of extras included. You could also try one of the new Etrex series, either the 10 or 20, which come with warranties and are not too expensive. Ompared to the oregons and the do paperless.

    Just ideas

  4. I work for the fire department and I dropped my iPhone 4 from the top of one our ladder trucks by accident. I was on the cab checking out the ladder and I leaned over the edge to ask someone to pass me a pair of pliers when my phone slid out of my sweatshirt pocket and fell approximately 12' to the ground, hitting the corner of the phone and bouncing around. The phone was in a cheap casebut had a ZAGG screen on it.

I asked the firefighter to tell me how bad it was damaged and he replied, you have a great looking golden as your screen saver but beyond that the was no damage, screen intact, and the corner of the phone showed no damage. I think, or want to believe, that the ZAGG screen probably helped out in not causing any damage toi it.

Beyond thay, I did run an iPod nano through the laundry and initially it didn't work until it dried out. I still use it with no problems.

  5. I just got a new Dakota 20 on craigslist and I am learning the features of it as I type this. I am having a little difficulty navigating my way around the unit because I am used to the features of the old Etrex's and my CSX in that whenever you are in a screen, you can access the menu of that screen to edit or change the settings for that specific page. With the Dakota, I need to work my way around the page to get where I want but I am finding certain features that I like that makes some things easier.

I am not yet sold on the touchscreen because it is little. I think that the Oregon might be a better choice just for the size but not sure. I personally like the compass feature, don't really worry much about the altimeter. I have noticed it to be pretty accurate and it fits nicely in my hand.

I personally never really liked the toggle of the old Etrex's that much. I prefer the pad of my CSX and PN-40 over the Venture, Legend, and Vista series I have had yet I was happy in how they fit in my hand and was able to navigate through it easily with one hand.

My best recommendation is to visit a store in your area that has demo models that you can try out, like REI. This way you can see first hand what you might prefer.

    Good luck.

  6. I use both a 60CSx and a DeLorme PN40 (the 40 is similar to the 60). I find that the paperless aspect to the PN series is better than on any Garmin device in terms of ability to carry data with me. I have had 40,000 cache descriptions, along with as many logs as I ever want to page through, on the PN and I know that that does not hit the limit. Still that does require a bit of technical knowledge (file swapping inside the GPSr) and most novice users might find that a bit tricky to figure out. The screen size is a bit smaller than what you will be used to coming off the 60cx and personally I never really got used to that (I had hoped that I would); the PN60 is a bit prettier and the display may be a bit better, so you would need to be the judge of that. The street routing on the PN40 does not meet my expectations because those expectations were crafted by the way the 60CSx routes. I still have the 60CSx dashmount in the car and use the Garmin to route me close to the cache. When I leave the car, I take the PN with me to find the cache. That system works quite well with me. My wife is then with me with her own 60CSx and having two different units generate "opinions" on where the cache location might be is very nice. The devices very rarely disagree and when they do it is generally a toss-up as to which unit "is right". I did look into getting a 60 or 60W but ended up not doing that for some personal reasons; but one caution I would toss your way is to inspect very close what the "W" does for you and whether you want the extra costs associated with having that. When I was looking at this it meant also ponying up for some sort of satellite subscriptions service and another device that I did not have a use for. My PN40 does not have maps outside of the North America and none are available to me, either hand crafted or official; so if that is an issue, then look carefully to see if that issue has changed with the PN60.

This is exactly how I do it. I also like the concept of the 60W, especially now that you can buy it without the spot. Seems that they are phasing out that bundle so they can introduce and use their "in Reach" device that cost's another $249.00 which is supposed to be similar but better than the SPOT.

The biggest thing I don't like about my PN-40 is the size of the screen. I wish it were just a bit bigger because I refuse to take my reading glasses out with me. I believe the PN-60's have the same size screen. I also find that both devices are extremely accurate and I like them both very much for very different reasons, similar to those of Hynr.

  7. Hello,

My best recommendation is to go to a sporting goods store like REI, if you have one near you, and try out the units for yourself. I have a 60csx, legend HCX, and a Dakota 20. For me, I still like the feel of the 60csx but I like the bit bigger screen on the Dakota and the Oregons have an even larger screen.

Everyone will have their point of view with all valid points but it comes down to what you are going to like. You could like the new 62 series that are very similar to your CX.

    Good luck.

Edited to add: I also have a PN-40 that I like a lot also but I don't personally like the small screen for reading as my eyes are getting older and I refuse to bring my reading glasses with me.

  8. You can always see if you can find one on craigslist. I just picked up a new, used once, Dakota 20 for $150.00. I was also about to pick up a Dakota 10, the hike and bike package with City Navigator, for $120.00 for my kids.

Edit to add: Also almost picked up Garmin 550T with a whole bunch of Garmin purchased maps for $300.00 but really didn't need that much of a unit from craigslist.

  9. Hello,

I have 2 Garmin Legend HCX's in near perfect condition. They were used by my daughters for geocaching only and have had a ZAGG screen protector on them from day one. My daughters are no longer active or much interested in geocaching any longer so I am cleaning house.

These are not paperless units but they are great starter units or extra units to have for kids. They have the high sensitivity receiver for satellite acquisition and are very accurate.

The purchase price is for the unit only, the only accessory that I have for these units is the lanyard and the bike clip so that they can be used on a bicycle. I do not have the bike mount nor any cables, but any usb to mini usb cable will work with this device for the transfer of caches from the GC.com site to the unit.

I am asking $110 for each. This price includes shipping and handling to the Continental USA only. I can provide pictures on request.

    Thanks for looking.

  10. Found the Venture HC on Amazon for just over $100 refurb or used. I could still download the waypoints so at least I wouldn't have to input the coordinates manually. Looks like there's enough memory to download some TOPO maps for the northeast. Maybe this is the way I'll go for a while. Perhaps next year I can upgrade even further.

This unit will be pretty much like what you currently have except with a color screen and the ability to download via a USB cable. The biggest negative for this unit will be that it is not a paperless unit and you will need to continue to bring all of your information about the cache with you. Review the Garmin website for paperless units and look for those.

If it were me, I would spend the extra $ on a nice paperless unit.

    Good luck.

  11. Your Etrex can only hold around 500 caches and about 1000 waypoints. This is all stored on it's internal memory not the card. The memory card can store maps and points of interest (POI) but not cache data from the site or from a PQ.

Just delete your internal memory of caches and load new information on the unit. You should do this whenever you plan to go out because as soon as you load caches and leave them on the unit, you run the risk of many caches becoming disabled or archived. This can make for a long day of DNF's.

  12. You need to call Garmin and have them walk you through the process of registering your new unit with your old maps. I have done this 3 times with my 60CSX when it went bad. They need to give you a new code to link up with the new unit. Garmin can do this over the phone pretty quickly.

    edited for spelling

  13. Does she still have the older version on her computer? If so, she can reinstall it from her computer and iTunes. If she updated that one also, has she backed her iPhone up lately? She could possibly get back if she restores her phone from the most recent back up.

These are the only ways to get the old app back on the phone.

  14. I had tried what you want to do with my 60csx and didn't like it. I prefer to utilize either my smart phone to load the information into and with the GC App, I can pull up ones on the fly.

This is just my opinion. Many people like the POI way of loading caches or modifying the info via GSAK but neither way really gave me enough information to really use.
