  1. Found the link for the paperless caching for the Mac. Here it is, www.maccaching.com.
  2. It's in here FAQ's. Good luck.
  3. If you are a Mac guy there is a program for paperless caching for the ipod. I can't remember what it is called but you could probably find it here on the forums somewhere. You may want to go back to REI and look at the 60csx and the Oregon with sunglasses on or your helmet, if it has a tinted visor. I own a 60csx and have noticed that when I wear my sunglasses that at certain angles the screen is hard to see. It might be the same with the Oregon. I do not know about the Oregon but the 60csx's brightness feature does not stay on unless it hooked up to an external power source so you might want to make sure you can see it from an angle taht would simulate it being mounted on your bike. Just a suggestion. Good luck. I love my 60csx....
  4. Also is that a KML download or did you actually enter in the coordinates of the cache. I have noticed and it has been stated that the KML locations are off a bit. When I have entered in the coordinates it seems pretty accurate. edited: Prime kinda beat me with similar info.
  5. I can't say for certain, because I don't really pay attention to it, but mine does go off when I am close. Probably around 100-300' depending on how fast I am traveling. It should state in your owners manual how far it is set to go off or how to set it.
  6. Open the find menu. In there you should see an address icon. From here, you should be able to enter sn address. I am not sure if you need Navigator or not. If you do not see the icon than you probably will need to purchase mapping software.
  7. You are correct in needing City Navigator to get the highway feature and driving feature for this gps. This GPS has a small amount of memory for mapping software. If you load both TOPO and Navigator, depending on the area you are traveling in and how many maps you install, you may run out of memory and not be able to install all of the maps you want or need. For the cost of the navigator software, I think it would be better to buy a cheap vehicle GPS to do what you need for driving purposes.
  8. Also, underneath the size, difficulty, and terrain descriptions it says "This is a subscriber-only cache." It is written in small letters so it can be hard to see.
  9. The easiest way is to create a route from this link, Caches along a route,. It is easy to do, just practice a little. It gives you all the directions on how to do it. edited for spelling, oops.
  10. Same recommendation here. Buy a new blank 2 gb sd card, might as well go big as they are about the same price, and install your new maps onto it. Just remember where you are storing the other card for when you move back.
  11. I would archive the old one and create a new one. Usually when I update one of my caches it is because of geographic purposes, being muggled, or the cache has been damaged and I have replaced it with something just a "little" different from the original. A lot of people put in their cache name that this is a TB hotel. This way people are more likely to bring one and trade out. This will also give those that have already found it another reason to visit the area. Sometimes when you just update the cache not all the people are aware that this has been done. Especially NonPM's that do not have the "set up updates" feature.
  12. There is a cacher here in the Sacramento Region that has found over 700 caches and has over 75 FTF without a GPS. He uses Google Earth to find them. He has been the FTF on a few of my hides.
  13. They have been removed according to Release Notes 2/11/09. You can still save the page to your desktop or a folder and it will open in your browser even if you are not connected to the internet. Hope this helped...
  14. There were three multi's placed at our local Libraries. There is a cache outside the library that you need to find. Inside it has the names of two books. You need to go inside and get there dewey decimal numbers for N and W coordinates. You then go out and find them near the library. Here are the links, GC1HK8P, GC1HKEP, and GC1JVJY.

    Trading caches

I agree with the other posters. Just because Cacher A and Cacher B have hidden all the caches in an area and have found all of those caches doesn't mean that other people are not enjoying the area. I have an area where I live that I have found all of the caches and have placed a few. I still walk that area with my dog because it is an area that I like to visit, not just because there are caches there for me to find. As I walk my dog I check my caches to see if they are ok. I will also check on other peoples caches in the area if they are receiving a lot of DNF's, since I have already found them. I will then post a note confirming whether or not the cache is ok for the owner. If a cache is archived in that area I will try and set up a new one but I do not agree with swapping out caches just to get a smiley. I agree with the others in that the better idea would be to archive it and place a new one. Just swapping the cache does not allow "other cachers" that have found those caches the opportunity to find it and log it as a "new" cache because as others had mentioned the GC# will still be the same. This swap or adoption that you mention only benefits Cacher A and Cacher B. It does not allow others to visit the area that you so much enjoy.
  16. I am one of those that found a condom and a card for an adult night club here in Sacramento on a cache. Luckily I was not with my kids when I found it. I took them out and threw them in the trash after I was done for the day. That's the most adult content thing I have found.
  17. I agree with Potato Finder, what is the real problem? You can cache with no one knowing. You can go out whenever you want. You can find as many as you want. All you need to do is make the time and enjoy yourself. I mostly cache with my daughters and always with my dog. It is great fun just getting out of the house and walking the trails. Don't give up because you are afraid of people knowing you are caching. If you don't log the finds in GC.com, no one will know and it will be your only secret. Especially if you don't even write on the log sheet. As I said earlier, this is just a game. Enjoy it as you see fit. If that is just getting out and doing the hunt and find with no log whatsoever. Sorry to see you leave for something that you can control.
  18. One thing hat has helped me find caches that I haven't seen before was to look at e-bay, under geocaching and geocaches, for ideas about what types of things people can hide things in. I also looked at the stores for geocaching under this link at GC.com, Geocoin stores . Down and to the left there are a list of places to buy geocoins. Those stores also sell geocaches and you can look at them. There is also a forums post, Cool cache containers . This will help you get an idea of what people use to hide things in. Good luck.
  19. Another thing to remember is that your log on the cache page is from a past visit. You are not there right now and no one has a way of knowing where you are going to cache. You could always log your caches a few days after you have visited an area if you are concerned about people knowing where you have cached. I know of a few people that don't log their finds on GC.com and that is their choice. In fact, one of them emailed me that one of my caches had been damaged. As a cache owner, it is nice to see the logs of people visiting my caches but if they don't log it that's ok to. I think this game is about however you want to do it to make it fun for you. If you enjoy going out on hikes and finding things, than this is for you. If you are concerned about running into people outside of your safety net than this may not be for you. I agree with StarBrand that even if you had the ability to block a user they could create an alias account and still look at your profile. Your profile page is as in depth as you want it. You can hide your email address and if someone does email you through GC.com you could have that address blocked in your preferences and you would never see it, therefore you would never get any email from the site. Again, It is all up to you how you play the game. Potato Finder beat me to some of the points I made.
  20. The only time I cut and pasted finds was when I was helping my daughters create their own ID's and we had to back log around 100 caches each for them. I put something like, "Just created account and found with my dad, ao318. Thanks." After that, they write their own little logs.
  21. It comes with a factory protector that is meant to prevent anything happening to the screen while being transported. The best screen protector is from Zagg.com, I have one on my csx and on my daughters ventures.

    pdf question

I use Firefox and had no problems. I tried IE to see what you all are talking about and it has happened to me. I kinda liked the layout because it puts all the info on one page vs firefox creating 2 pages. Just my opinion.
  23. When you downloaded the GSAK caches onto google earth you will notice a small bar on the top right hand corner of the map, it is showing horizontally. You can click and drag the bar to view the caches in that area. I believe the default set up lists the caches by date of placement so you will have to scroll the bar all the way to the right to see all of the caches in your area.
