  1. I utilize Google Earth for many things. I use it to store my cache finds, my cache placements, parts of puzzle and mystery caches, and many other things. I liked the KML feature but never really used it for more than just a general look at where caches "may" be, because of all the bouncing it did with actual cache locations. Sometimes the the KML view would put caches in rivers, middle of the street, or on top of buildings and every time I refreshed my look it would be somewhere else. I preferred to do as Harriett does, run a .gpx file from GSAK or directly from a PQ and load it into GE. This gave me more of an accurate view of where to look for caches. Doing it this way gave me more accurate looks at where the cache should be located and it enabled me to, as many of you also like to to do, set up a route. Since it went it away and because I utilize this method of creating caches and routes in GE, I have not really missed it. I have also found it very simple to "create a route", since they have fixed some of the issues with that program, and have it downloaded into GE and then verify my route in GE. I find this method pretty simple and yes it is a few more steps, but it really doesn't bother me. I don't run a lot of PQ's so it doesn't impact my total number of downloads. I also always preview my "route" before running the PQ to ensure that it is what I want to download. I also then run a few PQ's of an area that I want to look in and open those .gpx files into GE also. I do understand some of the frustration that some of you are having from the disappearance of a nice to have feature, but there are ways around it until the long term solution is created. If it were to come back, it would need to be more accurate for me to enjoy or I will just continue to do what I'm doing now.

    Family Account

Thanks for the link. I have also seen general references and teasers in some other posts but have I have not seen anything for a while.

    Family Account

I would really like a way to utilize some of the premium features for my kids accounts without having to pay the full price for it. I am a premium member and my daughters are 13 and 10 years old. There are 3 features I would love to have for them: 1) They would like the ability to log PM caches without having to do the work around. 2) I would like to run a "My Finds" PQ to assist in keeping their stats. 3) They would like to see all of their "Smiley Faces" on their map screen. It would be great to have some type of "Family Plan" that allowed a certain number of cachers to be included on the the account to utilize some of the features or have a primary account holder and have the ability to add secondary accounts at a discounted price. I would be fine with just the primary account holder having full account privileges and the sub account holders having limited privileges. Just something I would like. Thanks
  4. Glad it worked. And yes, there are 2 different bike clips for the different models. Thats why I recommend that you call garmin to get the part number that you need to purchase the correct clip.
  5. I did the same thing and called Garmin to get the part number to look for it online somewhere to buy and they sent me one for free. You could try it also.
  6. Sorry for replying so late but I have been stuck at work at the fire department and this is the first time since Saturday looking at the forums. Ok, Here is what I am doing. 1) Clicking on, “Create a route” from my profile page. 2) I type in 95827 in the “From” window and Stinson Beach, CA in the “To” Window. 3) Click on “search”. 4) I then drag my route from Interstate 80, going through the East Bay, to Highway 37, going through Marin County. 5) I then click on “Save route changes”. 6) It then opens the “Create/Edit Route” page. 7) I then name it and describe it and hit save. 8) It then opens a new window, “Find user routes near your trip”, and I select “Create Pocket Query” for the new route. 9) I then edit my information for the route settings for the following: - Search 0.5 mi - Show me – 500 caches - Cache Type – Traditional - Container – any - Filter options - I haven’t Found, Is Active, and I don’t own - Terrain – Less than or equal to – 2.5 - Difficulty – Less than or equal to – 2.5 - Placed – Anytime - Attributes – Nothing selected - Output – Account’s email address - Format - .gpx - Compress – Checked 10) I then select submit and then preview my PQ In reviewing my PQ, it tells me that I have 383 records. The first record is Erin's Roundabout by Siddartha (GCC00B), which is in Davis, CA not Sacramento, and the last is Cache to Eagle #12 by mousewiz (GCMZR9), which is in Marin but not near Stinson. I also created a route with the same parameters except the starting point was Davis, CA. I previewed the PQ for it and it listed 314 records and it also started at Erin's Roundabout by Siddartha (GCC00B) and ended at the cache Cache to Eagle #12 by mousewiz (GCMZR9). I am using the current version of Firefox, running on windows XP. Email me via my profile if you need anymore info. I have made these 2 routes public for you to see. One is called, "Davis Stinson" and the other is "Sac to Stinson". Edited to add: I have also left the PQ's, named the same, in my list. I had deleted the old Routes and PQ's because they were not getting me what I wanted prior to this forum post. I do get different numbers when I have different distances in the miles section.
  7. Ok, now it's my turn. I just ran my first route with the new software and I am having the same problem of all the caches showing up at the beginning of the route and then not listing any others. I was trying to create a route from Sacramento to Stinson Beach. I had my distance set at 2.5 miles. When I set it for 0.5 miles, it gets me to Cordelia, CA, with 320 caches. Just posting to keep this topic active. Thanks, ao318
  8. One quick and easy way to check for new postings in your area is to have a PQ set up for them and then save the link in you favorites. Just click the link every once in awhile to see if anything new in your area. This will also help you to see if any of them have been found yet for that possible FTF.
  9. I use the twitter feature for making field notes and for getting hints. I do not have my account open for others to see and I do not follow any one else. It's nice to use if I have my GPS and don;t have my PDA with me. It will give me the coordiantes, size, and DT of the cache. I then will get a hint if needed. It serves a purpose.
  10. Here is what I use Xinha. It is an add on from firefox. Just right click in the area you want to use html and choose open Xinha and it is pretty self explanatory.
  11. One easy way to create a PQ of the area you want to visit is to be on the Geocaching Maps page. In the right hand corner in the box with all the different pictures of the geocaches is a link "Create Pocket Query". This will create a PQ of all the caches you have showing on the map. From the PQ page, you can edit the results you want and then run the PQ and it will then give you all the caches you want that you should be able to load into your unit.
  12. Did the same with my 2 daughters when we reached 100 finds. It's not that bad.
  13. I make mine open to all after a few weeks. I believe those that pay for a membership should get the first few finds. After a few weeks I open the cache to everyone.
  14. Which GPS are you using? Most Garmins have a calendar feature in the menu and when you click on the day it will list them in order of finds. That's how I keep track of my finds for the day.
  15. Shouldn't this topic be, "Who hasn't got poison oak while caching?" I get it very mildly. I never got it as a kid and only started getting it about 8 years ago after a grass fire. I fought a grass fire near the American River here in Sacramento and it had a ton of PO that had burned up along with the grass. After the fire, I went back to the station and took a shower and noticed these little bumps on my leg at my boot line under my pants. I asked the guys at the fire house what these itchy little bumps were and they told me it was poison oak. The soot from the fire sneaks up your pant legs on grass fires and where my boots rubbed my legs it must have rubbed in the PO into my skin causing me a reaction. Ever since I will get a small amount on my leg or arm but nothing that bothers me like the first time I got it.
  16. Working fine for me over here in Sactown....
  17. Is it asking for "road" or "off road" when you select go to? Did you buy any maps for the GPS? I have a 60csx and haven't noticed this. Try this really quick to make sure your settings are ok. 1) Go to Menu 2) Select "setup" 3) Select "routing" 4) Look at "Guidance Method" and see what you have selected. If you have purchased Navigator than you would want the default to be "Prompted". If you do not have Navigator, than your default should be "off road". I don't know if this will help but give it a try. One last thing, have you calibrated the compass? Try that also and see if it helps.
  18. All you need to do is add a little lubricant to the o-ring like silicone lube or the lube used for swimming pool gaskets. I use it on my match stick holders. I also purchased from my hardware store a little bit better and more durable gasket that fits on these and bought extras to keep when performing maintenance on the caches. Just remember to wipe off the excess lube so it won't collect dirt.
  19. I have done multi's where the next coordinates were on a strip magnet attached to the underside of a bench. It does not deface and it is removable. I think this would work for what you are planning on doing.
  20. It could also be as quick as 2 hours or less depending on if the reviewer is at their computer doing things already. I had one posted almost 30 minutes after I submitted it. Just wait it out, it will happen.
  21. My daughters and I have our own names on GC.com. We got tired of writing all of our names on the logs and came up with a Team name to log finds on the geocaches but we log the finds under our regular names. Our Team name is Team-3D which stands for Dad, Daughters, and Dog. We made a team account and under its profile we put who we are and why we made the name. When we log as Team-3D or T-3D on micros, we always put that in as our last line of info on our log on the cache page. We'll put something like, "signed log as Team-3D" so that the owner knows that we signed the log under a different name and then logged under our own so that we keep an accurate record of our finds. Hope this helps...
  22. Hello, I am not too familiar with the legend but I have a 60csx and venture cx. I have a usb chord that I connect to the computer and download coordinates. I believe your GPSr utilizes a serial cable. You will need to get a serial to usb adapter to use with your computer unless you have an older computer that has a serial port. Otherwise you will have to enter the coordinates in by hand. I am not sure about baby jars as containers. I have never seen one. In fact, I have never seen a glass container. I have seen a few of the water bottles, but the ones without the spout. I use the lock-n-lock Tupperware for most of ny caches. They seem to be very durable and water resistant.
  23. Do have them but don't make them active all that often. They weren't active at that time because they are still turned off. I had thought of that also but looked up in the corner and saw my name up there. I even went to my account to look at caches I had found, previewed PQ's and had the same result, and clicked on the map to open caches with same issue. I was getting the coordinates listed, not those coordinates with the question marks when I am not signed in. I just wasn't getting the miles from home coordinates feature. There were nothing there. I couldn't tell how far away the cache was from home or in which direction. (N, S, E, or W) But as I posted earlier, all is well after reloading firefox. Don't know what happened and hasn't happened since. Thanks though...
  24. Well I don't know what happened. I reinstalled firefox and all is well now. Weird .
  25. Did anyone else notice that the waypoint box that states where the cache is located is not stating the city and not giving the distance from home coordinates in it? I am using latest version of Firefox and windows XP. Edited to state: Everything ok with Safari and IE.
