  1. Anyone know if it is possible to do a pocket querie of a single town . I try to narrow the field by miles but thats not exactly helpful. It seems to be somewhat difficult to figure out what town some caches are in . Many times the cache info does not say what town its in . I went to cache over the weekend that the owner was not sure what town it was placed in .Very close to border . Thanks
  2. NOT TRUE!! - Common myth but just not true. Many sources on the Internet to disspell that one. I have friends that handle snakes and are snake experts. No North American snake will chase down a human. An employee and Reptile Gardens confimed this for us a year ago. Confirmed /not true .The only way any snake will come at you is if it feels there is no way out. Even if poked the snake will more often try to move away .
  3. Here in get out of my way Massachusetts it is not only difficult but can be very dangerous finding where to park if the parking co-ords are not included . So A great BIG THANKS to those hiders who care about cachers safety on the road . Who add the parking co-ords . In Massyour in my wayachusetts drivers have no patience for those who dont know where or what they are looking for . Bush wacking in briars chest deep is welcome thing compared to the dangerous tailgating monster that want very badly to make sure you never drive again. I say dont want to know where to park dont look at the co-ords .But for me A BIG THANKS .
  4. I have a map60 that can navigate to the cache on road or off road. But I do paper less caching with a pocket pc . I bought the pc for $65 from for sale section here . And then I bought a garmin IQUE 1620 $55 that slides into the top of the pocket pc to turns it into a street and city navigator . And it can also do off road . I can go back and forth from map to cache info on one device and use my handheld narrowing down cache hide. Cheap way to do all things . I download the caches as waypoints onto the pocket pc in mapsouce and off I go .
  5. I found 2 travel bugs today . A toy soldier bug and a jeep bug in different caches . I took neither thinking it might be a week before I went out caching again . If I thought I was going to go for another cache I would have taken the 1st bug only to move it where another bug was hiding . Should I have taken them or left for someone else to move ? Just curious how long is ok to keep a bug before hiding it again . Thanks
  6. Whats the closest you have come to a cache . I was caching and kept losing satellite. Finally got it and walked closer and closer till my gpsr said 5 ft . I sat down to look for the cache on the other side of a stone wall and my gpsr read one foot . I had my hand almost on the cache . I thought that was amazing . Thanks
  7. Interesting test; I'll do a similar one using an external antenna on my 60CSx; I'm running a a pair of eneloops through the C9000 in the R&A mode right now, to make sure they are topped off. When I ran a test with freshly charged eneloops earlier, I got 17.2 hours. Not sure why you would care unless you are leaving your gpsr out in the cold . The colder it is the less time you will spend out in the cold with your gpsr . I suppose winter camping might be a issue or if you leave your batteries in your car over night . Throw 2 batteries in each pants pocket problem solved . Double A's are small enough so keeping them warm with your body heat is no big deal . Cell phone is a bigger problem Shirt pocket for that one . And if your are going for days . I have a solar charger that has 2 built in AA batteries that is wallet size and fits nice and warm in my Back pocket .This doubles as a cell phone backup battery as well as a charger . If your out in the cold that long a bigger worry is hands, toes, and ears . After 17 or 20hrs of exposure most cachers have had enough cold I would suspect . I still think a better bench mark is your self . How long can I stay out ,Biking ,HUNTING ,hiking , geocaching in cold weather? Even a power sucking gpsr on battery save mode will last 8 or 10 hrs . Six double a batteries take up less space than my samsung cell phone . And only weight slightly more than my cell phone . So 2 batteries in the gpsr.=10 hrs . Plus 6 spares is 70 hrs of contant wandering lost in the wilderness . . My gpsr will last 28 hrs under perfect conditions . Sleeping and resting = power off . Get the smallest cell phone case you can find fill it with batteries ,put it on your belt so some body heat protects them from full cold and you can hunt ,walk ,wander lost for a week .
  8. I have loaded and tried to use topo maps on my map 60 .I have yet to see any advantage over the base map that came on the unit . I really could use some instuctions on how to use these map I guess .Does anyone know of garmin topo howtos out there ? I have looked on the garmin web site and have not found any help . Thanks

  10. I use a multi pocket waist belt .Arround $20.00 .I carry small binoculars ,flashlight, lighter, multitool, reading glasses, small camera, small can of animal pepper spray and when not in use my pocket pc all fits very nicely . The 3 pockets spreads the load out so you dont have one big bulky mess in front of you. I wear it to my side so that one of the smaller pockets is in front . Oh ya there is a very small pocket on another pocket that I put 2 batteries in . Works great .
  11. What he says . Three times I have been asked this and nothing else . Oh and one person added your close and continued walking away .
  12. This person always says it best .Just dont do it So many great places to hide . Salute once again BAD_CRC
  13. While it was kind of you to try to rehabilitate the cache, it is ultimately the owner's responsibility. Finders are not obligated to do so (which, I'm surmising, is why the last finder did nothing). I see that the last finder at least posted a "needs maintenance" flag on the log; that's the least IMHO that any finder should do. Not all cache seekers carry cache-rehab equipment. I think you mean this comment to be sarcastic. You could go the extra step and log a "needs maintenance" to ensure the reviewer can adequately track it. A topic like this was started a while back. Take a look. I did send the owners a very nice PM telling them the cache needed help and to PM me if I could help . Nothing sarcastic about that at all . Thanks
  14. I found a muggled cache . I cleaned it put a log book and pen in it and replaced it . There had been several dnfs on this cache . Until last mnth someone said they found it where I found it about 25 yrs away . They did nothing with it except log what they saw on the web site. The last good find was 11 mnths ago . I guess I wouldnt care but the owner said this was their 50th hide . Are they all this well maintained ? Just wondering .
  15. I am somewhat new I dont know what archived means ? I have A little ove 30 finds . 350 finds your a finding God to me .
  16. Found my 1st travel bug . Am I correct that the bug is to be placed in a cache that is list as a travel bug cache ? Just want to make sure this is how it works before I return it to a cache . Thanks
  17. Thanks to all for your patience once again with me . You are all to kind to me . I did I did I did I did it . YAHOOO
  18. Sorry I do not want a avatar just a picture of my pup on the side just like everyone else . Sorry for confusion . But I thought I had it . Which obiouslyy if you look at this post there is still no puppy picture . Thanks
  19. Nope no picture yet . I guess I dont understand . I can see the picture in my profile but when I post to a forum still nothing .I did a clean loggin as suggested I did not use a favorites link . and so far still no photo . Pretty sure I followed instuctions . The easyest things can be so difficult . Thanks .
  20. I added a picture in my profile . I dont see it in my posts . How long does it take to show up ? Or did I do something wrong ? Thanks
  21. From now on I think I will let Bad_CRC say it for me . He allways posts excactly what I'm thinking or going to say . 2 Thumbs ups Bad _CRC
  22. I posted a similar topic the other day myself . For the last 2 or 3 weekends I have had trouble holding onto satellites . Weak or lost signal . I thought it might be a winter issue ? With the leaves off the trees I expected even better results but it has been worse here in New England .
  23. Work ,Wife or Wind .. Could be one or a combo of all three . Oh and forgot Wosquitos those Waskley things can drive you Cwrazy when Cwaching .
  24. Do like me dont read what kind of cache or where it is or where to park or any other relevant info on the cache . Hunt unsuccessful and go home angry that you couldnt find the silly thing. Size wont matter at all after 4 or 5 times doing this method . And you quickly be more interested in finding bottle caps with your new $400 metal detector .
  25. You dont need alot of money or big brains to be a geo cacher . But something tells me this is not a sport of the uneducated or poor . So use your brains and your money and MOVE !!!!!!!!!!
