  1. I'm having the same problem/need on my Nuvi 350 and would love to see this function ... especially when downloading POIs for Caches Along A Route and driving along my route. It would be GREAT to visually see what might be coming up ahead (I have Cache Along A Route set to 0.5 mile either side of road) so that I can then set Tour Guide alerts to 100 feet instead of 500 feet (which can get annoying on long trips). Is this available?
  2. Thanks for the input. It's just kinda strange that most folks would use the 3D mode since it is the default, and it would be most useful if downloaded POIs showed up there. Anyone know how to do that .... apart from just loading the GSK file directly into Favorites and not use the POI loader function? EDIT: Track Up and North Up don't work either. The caches just don't show up unless I see an alert (yes, I'm getting those) or are sitting near a cache and look at the details via the Tour Guide function. Something is amiss.

  4. Maybe I should try the Pilotsnipes macro? What's the difference between that one and the JJreds macro? Still can't get the cache icons to show up on the front screen map
  5. Thanks for the input Carlos1787, but it's something to do with the way the folders are looked at? As I said, one day it worked, next day it didn't. Must have something to do with the POI Loader? Nope ... don't think so ... POIs and descriptions and alerts are in there but cannot be seen on the front driving map .... even though they were there before I left Florida. <sigh> I think it has something to do with the "Favorites" folder. Maybe I should put all the POIs into the Favorites folder? .... but then I'm back to square one in trying to delete them after I've used the POI file and updated it for another route or area. Why can't life and Garmins be simple?
  6. I went back to the link you provided (which I used before) and followed the instructions explicitly. My macro is now running with the recommended garmin-nuvi-exportgpx.gsk and I downloaded the recommended POI Loader from that thread. Still same thing ... not showing up on the main map ... only shows up when I select one specifically from the Custom POI list. Funny thing is ... from Florida to Illinois it was working perfectly ... alerts and all ... when I had the darn things listed in my Favorites as well as the Custom POI folder. Perhaps that's the key? However, I don't know how I got them into Favorites in the first place!
  7. Now .... this is driving me NUTS! I used GSAK and the GPX_by_Cache_Type.gsk macro with my Nuvi 350 ... this time (with the Windows POI Loader) it created the Custom POI folders on the Nuvi and, if I select one of the caches, the Nuvi will take me there. However, when driving in normal mode and looking at the regular map ... the downloaded POIs are not showing up! Previously, when they were loaded into my Favorites, they did show up. Now they wont. I've read about zooming in, etc but ... even when I am right on top of a cache (as directed by the Nuvi when searching for a particular cache that I have selected from the Custom POI folder) and then switch to "normal driving map mode, the POI, i.e. the cache, does not show up! Yes .... it's driving me NUTS! Why don't the custom POIs show up on the normal map when they are all there on the NUVI? DoI have to put them in another folder?
  8. OK ... I used GSAK and the GPX_by_Cache_Type.gsk macro with my Nuvi 350 and everything seemed to go very well for a route I planned from Orlando, FL to Chicago, IL. I picked up quite a few caches on the way. Only one problem ... I have Custom POI's on my Nuvi BUT ...all the caches ALSO went into my Favorites so, now I have a Favorites folder full of caches alongside my original Favorites. I can only delete Favorites one at a time! Where did I go wrong? How can I prevent the caches going under Favorites? Is there a way I can edit the Favorites file so I can just remove the caches?
  9. Thanks luckybobb ... but I don't have a memory card in my Nuvi EDIT: I just found a 25 MB one in my "miscellaneous drawer". Will that be sufficient memory? OK ... I'll just follow the instructions on the JJreds googlepages. Seems pretty comprehensive to me [crosses fingers]!
  10. When I've generated a Pocket Query for Caches along a Route, I receive a zipped folder from geocaching.com that can be unzipped to a GPX file. I can then take that GPX file and put it into GSAK and export it to my Nuvi. However, it puts all the caches somewhere (not sure where) and the cache GC numbers turn up on the Nuvi under my "Favorites" and I have to individually delete them after using them since I don't want to delete all my other "Favorites". Also, even though they are in my "Favorites" they are not showing up on the map screen while I'm driving! What am I doing wrong? Should I just add the GPX file to the first/base Nuvi folder, or add it to the GPX folder, or add it to the Waypoints folder? Should the file be renamed Waypoints.GPX or Current.GPX? Any help greatly appreciated.
  11. I ran a "My Finds" query this morning ... it said it was run but, unlike previous runs, it has not arrived in my email yet. I've been waiting for over an hour whereas ,before, it used to arrive in my email (Yahoo) practically immediatly. Perhaps there's a hold-up in the queue at either Groundspeak or Yahoo.
  12. Well ... It would have been kinda nice if geocaching.com had contacted us and recognized that there was a problem ... and then told us it had been fixed! It works for me too now. As someone else said in a previous post in this thread ... what are we paying "Premium" membership prices for? ... even though it is, actually, a nominal amount.
  13. We don't think it has anything to do with IE8 (or Firefox, or other providers) since previous posters have said they can't get the maps on IE7 or Firefox either. It's something they have to fix at geocaching.com
  14. Well ... if everyone keeps posting ... maybe they'll notice. It sure ain't fixed in Florida! I'm not sure how to get their attention apart from using this section of the forums.
  15. Google Maps is running OK. Google Earth is running OK. The problem must be between some interface on the geocaching.com website and google maps. Hopefully they'll get it fixed soon ... was planning on going Geocaching tomorrow!
  16. Anyone having problems loading Google Maps on the GC website today? For me, the little circle just goes around and around and it says it is loading maps ... but the maps don't load!
  17. CLARIFICATION: The cache page has multiple fonts and font colors but ... I'm only needing the font and font color (X11 Color or Hexadecimal Color Code) used in the short and long descriptions that are written by the cache creator.
  18. I'm thinking of creating a new cache page, and have a couple of questions about some things I'd like to put on it using html. 1) What is the font of the standard text on the cache page? Is it Times New Roman? 2) What is the font color of the standard text on the cache page? font color=black is too dark. 3) What code should I use to creat a link to a web page that does NOT make the word "link" become underlined? I'm currently using the format: <a href="htpp://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=106531">link <a> but the word "link" comes out blue and underlined. How can I avoid that? Thanks in advance ...
  19. I have only ONE comment ... BRING BACK THE PDF VIEW! The new "system" is just such a waste of ... 1) Time, 2) Ink, and 3) Paper! Why did you try and fix something that is not broke? Is anyone at Groundspeak listening?
  20. What happened to the option where you could print out a cache, with 5 logs, AND a decrypted clue, AND an inventory via PDF format? Before the PDF option came along, I used to print out 5 pages, then the option to print out ALL information, including decrypted hints, and TB or geocin contents, were all available on ONE page via PDF! What's happenened to that? We now have to go backwards and print out all the logs again? What a complete waste of paper and ink!

  22. I have not been on the forums for a month or so. Now, I see that when you view a topic, any responses are listed below in a file/branch/folder format. This might have something to do with either changes at the forums, or my cookies, or something else. I can't find, in the forum settings, how to go back to the old settings of viewing all the responses with their full text on one page, then going to the next page to read more, etc. I'm not really comfortable with the file/branch/folder format. Can anyone help me here? Paul
  23. OK ... I think I've got it figured out! In the Garmin menu under Start>Programs, go to MapSource and update it from the update disk. You have to purchase an unlock code though via the UnlockWizard. Then ... do MapInstall and you select all the areas (not tiles) that you want to install. It would REALLY be nice if they had an option for "Install All Available" instead of having to zoom in and out and left and right and up and down to make sure you have all areas selected ... especially for New England areas, and major cities like New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas, etc. where you have to zoom in to get all the tiny little images that just compose the city. Currently downloading to the card on the GPS ... says it'll take about an hour and a half
  24. Thanks for the response ... As an ignorant software user ... what would be the steps that I would have to follow in order to do that?
