Hi all:
In the interest of not repeating an etiquette error, would some of you let me know if I made a mistake as described below?
I have worked for several months on a 14-stage multi (The Day of the Dead) and was happy to find the final yesterday. Here is the log I posted:
"Rah!! Completed today. Kudos to MaNa indeed. Started it in early October last year with the misguided confidence that we'd finish by DoD '07. Our aim was to hit the 14 waypoints en route to other pastimes, visitings and errands to minimize the superfluous drive-around, so it took a wee bit longer than intended, not to mention a moderate amount of cajoling of chums for a few of the WPs: "Do you mind if we just take this short (or long; sorry!) detour so I can look at a tombstone?"
WPs 12 & 13 were the stickers, although I didn't initially realize the latter was. Thanks for the hint and the course correction, MaNa. Beautiful location for the final; LaQuinta had tired of the cemeteries so I finished this one solo, but she would have loved it, including the very suitable prop in the vicinity.
T lovely blue bookmark and handwarmers. L new purple bandanna and a buck.
Also brought out the TBs so they'd have a higher likelihood of making it wherever they need to go more quickly."
And then here is an email I received based upon my log (name left off for anonymity of the sender, whom I do not know):
Hello
I was writing to let you know that I was concerned about your log at "The Day of the Dead". I too have been working for the passed week to find this cache and in particular the Jeep TB that was located there. I was disheartened to find that someone had beaten me to it, but even more so when you said, in such an off handed way, that you took it just so it would have a better chance of making it to another cache. I hope that in the future you keep in mind that others are also on the hunt and maybe consider that they have yet to be lucky enough to find a Jeep TB. Thank you.
FYI, the TB I'm moving along was a 2006 Jeep TB, so the contest was already over. Am I missing something re: Jeep TBs that engendered the email above?
Thanks, fellow cachers, for any insights. In general I think by now I get most cache etiquette, but perhaps I'm missing something here.
