  1. Interesting? Censoring out links? oh well. I wasn't honestly even aware that apps could be run on the iPod Touch without jailbreaking... Hah.
  2. Well yes it could work to mail the info to the iPod, but who wants to manage all those caches in Mail? That's why Books.app is a lot handier to use. And what's the problem with Jailbreaking? There are practically no cons to it, it is not illegal....
  3. Wow LOL! I wish I'd saw this topic before I posted mine. Oh well, mine is slightly different. Does this iPhone app require internet to check out the caches, or are the caches transferred over to the iPhone by the user?
  4. I should try this... I have a DS. Although I'm not sure if it beats my solution of iPod paperless caching! I'm not that big of a fan of homebrew either.. hmm...
  5. Hi everyone I'm a hardcore geocacher (premium) and also a PHP coder! Here's my story: I became a Premium Member and got all excited about Paperless Caching. But then my GPS was way too lame to be able to display any of the notes I want. I figured I should use some kind of mobile device to store the information. My phone didn't support it, nothing really did, but then I realized my iPod Nano could carry notes. So I thought about it, and coded this GPX Tool with PHP! http://cyanpro.com/gpx/ <-- That's the one! You need to be a member on my site, Cyan Productions, but you can sign up here (cyanpro.com/register.php) in like 20 seconds for free. What that does is takes your GPX files (Pocket Queries or single caches, whatever) and either displays it in readable text online, or it turns every geocache into a text file with readable info on the cache, and packages all these text files (.TXT) into a zip. You can choose which one you want it to do. The .TXT one was what I needed though, because I could load my GPX into my tool, it would spew back out a zip full of .TXT files for each cache, and then I would copy all these onto my iPod. This worked great until I sold my iPod, thinking of getting an iPod Touch. So I was planning on using my iPod Touch to do the same thing with its wicked-looking Notes.app feature. But when I got that, turns out you need Mac OS X Leopard to sync notes onto it, and I didn't have that, and... yeah it was really tough. So I decided to jailbreak my iPod Touch and install a Books.app program onto it, which is like Notes.app but read-only, and much more syncable. Then to make it really easy I coded a PHP tool that lets you load a GPX file, and then that syncs all the caches in it to .TXT files on the Books.app program on my iTouch! If that sounds complicated, have no fear, I explain everything in detail on my blog, me.cyanpro.com! Oh, and the actual tool is at http://cyanpro.com/tools/gpxipod.php ! So yeah, this is a really long post.... just trying to help anyone who is dreaming of flawless paperless caching. If you need help with any of those things, just e-mail me@cyanpro.com and I'll help you out. Cheers.
  6. Thanks! I figured it out. See, I knew about the vmobl.com e-mail things. What I didn't know was that there was ALSO an e-mail for Canada, and it's vmobile.ca instead. It now works, thanks a lot! James
  7. Thanks Now I just gotta figure out how to make it send the results immediately to me.
  8. I've been having quite a bit of trouble with the Pocket Queries. I just subscribed to the Premium Member version, and have got notifications working, but I haven't quite worked out pocket queries yet. I do a Pocket Query like so: 100 Caches Any type Any container (I don't check off any of the "I haven't found, have found" etc) (I don't check off the terrain or difficulty ones) Within (province) British Columbia From Origin MY HOME COORDINATES within radius of 100km Placed during (None Selected) And I don't touch the attributes. Shouldn't this give me loads of caches? I'm saying "any this and any that", and not being specific... yet I get NO results when I preview it. I've tried different methods, narrowing down the options and stuff, but I always get 0 results. Help! We want to go geocaching today and I'd like to do a pocket query before I go.
  9. Well I just signed up for the Geocaching Premium Member, for the entire reason that I thought I'd be able to set up Mobile Notifications of new caches etc to my Virgin Mobile cell phone. I read on some geocache's page that "mobiles flipped open" upon alert of a new cache, and I thought I read it somewhere on the Premium features page. Can I set this up? Or am I let down? Haste in response would be much appreciated. Thanks
  10. One problem solved - when taking it off, save it in GPX XML format. It can be loaded safely back on to the GPS.
  11. As I mentioned, I have a Mac. Those aren't compatible.
  12. Hey, I'm working on making various trail maps of different trails in my city. I do it by taking my GPS Garmin eTrex Legend HCx and turning on tracking when I come to the start of the trail. I walk throughout the entire trail, and then turn tracking off when I'm done. I then use GPSBabel (since I have a Mac) to copy all saved tracks onto my computer, and save it in Google Earth KML format. It opens fine with Google Earth, but doesn't transfer back onto my GPS the same way. So I'm working on finding better and more efficient ways for this project, does anyone have any suggestions?
  13. Hah, that was the first question I had too.... with the addition of "what the heck is TNLN?" which is Took Nothing Left Nothing.
