  1. I have used a program called GeoCalc. It converts coordinates into different formats, calculates distances from one set of coordinates to another, as well as projections in feet, yards, miles etc.
  2. Eagles61 and Eaglet at Let the Good Times Roll (A Mardi Gras Cache) Eagles61, Cachin' Up and Eaglet at Indecision Eagles61 at Will the Circle be Unbroken cache
  3. 68 found out of the first 100 100th cache is 5.8 miles 232 caches within 10 miles!! 119 found out of the 232. 1520 caches within 100 miles. Looks like I better get busy
  4. Any SD size memory card should work and it looks to be a fair price.
  5. Here are my 200+ finds. Does not look nearly as good as I thought it would. Guess I have to get out and find another few hundred.
  6. Who has time to work? I travel about 70% of the time and the gps is always with me as well as PQ's for the areas I am going to be in, just in case I get some free time.
  7. My wife tolerates it and sometimes even encourages it. She enjoys going on some easy ones during good weather, but definitely no bushwhacking or major hikes. She knows how much I enjoy this so for Christmas, she conspired with our nephew and hid all of my gifts. When I opened all of my packages, all that was in them was slips of paper with coordinates on them. Had a great Christmas day finding 5 caches that I can not even log. I also have two daughters that cache with me on occasion.
  8. My worst injury occurred when I was placing a cache in a park near to home. As I was taking coordinate readings from several different approaches I pushed some low branches out of the way with my left hand but they slipped out of my hand. I jerked my head back out of the way to avoid getting slapped in the face but when I did there was another branch next to me on the right and a small twig went right into my right ear and punctured my eardrum. No permanent damage, although my wife says I don't hear her when she is talking to me
  9. I bought my daughter an etrex a couple of months ago and purchase one of the aftermarket cables on eBay and have had no problems with it. Go for it.
  10. I just purchased a Garmin Etrex for my 10 year old daughter. She has no problems using it. She does everything from downloading the coordinates from EasyGPS to manually inputting coordinates. Actually, since she got her own GPSr she has become more interested in geocaching and is more excited about going with me when I go.
  11. Haven't seen anything in the forums yet on this. Today, Show Me The Cache logged his 2000th cache. Congratulations , Show Me The Cache on reaching this major milestone.
  12. I fly at least twice a week and always have my GPSr with me. Never once had a problem with security in any airport. (Louisville, Pittsburg, Buffalo, Philly, Seattle, Chicago Midway, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte) As you can tell, I get around quite a bit. I've even had the GPSr in Monterrey, Mexico and later this week will be taking it to Chihuahua, MX. Airlines are another story, to be safe always ask. However as amishangel said, Southwest actually mentions it in the flight magazine as an approved device.
  13. There is a local cacher in our area that uses this site. It's fairly easy to use and when done selecting all of the criteria it automatically creates the html code to cut and paste into your page. I have not used it yet, but here is a cache has the end result. GCD114
  14. I have not seen the Metroguide software so I don't really have a comparison, but I use a Magellan Meridian with the USTopo software. Very pleased with it so far, it includes points of interests, hotels, churches, etc,. The POI feature can be disabled if you would like.
  15. I would log both. The only time I do not log a DNF is if I feel I did not put forth enough effort (ran out of time during lunch, getting too late, etc.)in finding the cache and even then I will at least post a note.
  16. My oldest daughter has been with me on quite a few of my finds, but never signed any of the log books. She just recently created a user name (cachin' up) and I'm curious if it is legit to let here log the finds she accompanied me on. I've searched through a lot of the topics here but have not found anything on this. Any input would be appreciated.
