  1. I guess I just don't get the Haiku thing Seems like it should rhyme Or something
  2. Woohoo, home from work with time for 3 more entries
  3. I owe, I owe, so off to work I go
  4. SMILE- if you're not wearing any underwear
  5. Wow, what a nightmare this is gonna be to sort out.
  6. Then we should have shooting star parties to pay homeage to them when they come down
  7. The thread on "Why people lie about their numbers" was so long when I first saw it that I refuse to read or respond to it; pretty much the same question here but I'll answer cuz this thread is short It's the same people who cut in line when they were in grade school. It makes them think that they got away with cheating when everyone else did it the hard/right/fair way- they think that rules don't apply to them, their "game" is finding a way around the accepted routine. It makes them think that they are important. They are only cheating themselves, sad for them. I'd delete every log I saw from them, even if they have signed the logsheet. I might even waste a little bit of time tracking every cache owner down & making them aware of the "problem" too. On second thought, when the fool saw his find count going down, he'd most likely dedicate his life to logging "found" for every cache listed. Let him go, he punishes himself enough as it is without ticking him off & having him take vengeance on the rest of us. A few "cachers" (term used loosely) have been known to go out & physically remove every cache that they find, simply because someone calls them on being whacko.
  8. Yep, it does happen. I had one pop up unlogged in one of my caches that had been MIA from another cache for over 6 months. Someone found it in the bottom of their bag & dropped it in the next cache they visited. I "grabbed it from somewhere else", logged it in & it lives again
  9. Do you know how to go about sending them to the ipod? I am having a tough time finding that in the menus.. Thanks! This is the thread that I got directions from (first response to the original topic poster): http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=...amp;#entry29863 It sounds pretty complex, but it really is quite simple to follow the steps/directions. There is a video tutorial that will lead you right through the setup process & can be paused step-by-step as you physically follow the directions here: http://www.podcacher.com/files/paperlessipod/iPod.htm Once you have GSAK setup right you can create and export the file to your Ipod (takes about 3.5 seconds). All you have to do to view cache listings on your Ipod is click: Menu>Extras>Contacts & you'll have an alphabetical list of all of the cache names that were in your filter when you exported the file to your Ipod (the export procedure is now repeatable for future exports by File>Export>Custom Export in GSAK). Spin your wheel around until you land on and click the cache name that you want to read and something that looks like a "printer friendly version" of the cache page appears on the screen. It shows the cache name, coordinates, description & decoded hint. When using our Ipod in this manner, we just leave it on all day & very little battery is used (screen backlight is set to auto-off after about 15 seconds of inactivity). One little glitch is that when your Ipod is hooked up to your computer & working as an external drive. Once you export the file to the Ipod, it is very tempting to click open that file from your computer to verify that it is there & contains the info that you want it to. DON'T! If you do, a stupid little windows screen will pop up that has to be closed before you can continue doing anything. Oh yeah, one of those screens will pop up for EVERY "contact" that is in the file (if you send 487 contacts, you will have to chase down & push the button 487 times, LOL). Just Eject the Ipod from My Computer, pull the plug & check the file content with Menu>Extras>Contacts on the Ipod
  10. Yeah, it's a lotta fun hiding them. Building the containers is fun, but actually finding good hiding spots is a LOT tougher then it seems. The MOST fun is WATCHING them being found. Place one somewhere you can see it from your window & you'll know what I mean
  11. Oh man, made our day Now the waiting begins
  12. We picked up our Etrex Legend (with cable) for $119 through WalMart's online store, with free site-to-store shipping.
  13. That's a neat little unit. I like the heart rate feature, you could set an upper end alarm that lets you know when you should stop looking for that stupid micro, LOL.
  14. Most likely, our daughter would HAVE to have one
  15. We're using an Etrex Legend & it does it's job just fine. GSAK organizes, filters & sends waypoints, descriptions & clues to the GPSr & to my wife's Ipod. The Ipod works very well, all waypoints are listed alphabetically as "Contacts". Just whiz through to the one you need to read, click & the page appears on the screen. (I wouldn't buy an Ipod specifically for this purpose, there are a lot of way cheaper options but if you have one, use it).
  16. I must have only gotten the 5 cent tour cuz I thought: "Wow, get a life!", LOL. The 25 cent tour did it for me though
  17. Dunno how we missed out on the first run, *can't possibly* miss the second one! Will reserve a couple when the pre-order comes up
  18. If they're gonna start using cannons, why not put a 5 pound shot-put or a nice javelin in it?
  19. Sounds like you have a handle on what you want to do & I don't see anything wrong with it. The only way you might tick someone (everyone?) off would be if there was a cache on your block that gets a lot of TB traffic & you run out every night to grab every TB that gets dropped in it, without regard to your ability to help them on their mission. In your case, grab those TB's & take them with you.
  20. I think that as with any other activity, you will find people of all types- some who take nothing & leave kewl stuff for others to find, some who "trade even or trade up", some who trade down & a few who think it's funny to leave used toothpicks (with evidence of use still attached). Best thing to do is to quietly pack out hazardous waste, so others who come later aren't exposed to it (someone has undoubtedly performed this service for you on other caches, without your knowledge). I dunno about you guys, but we're all treasure hunters to some degree. We stop at just about every garage sale we see when we're out geocaching (kinda wish they would post coord's for them in the classified ads, LOL). We've dug to the bottom of many a tote full of happy meal toys- usually find nothing but trash, occassionally find an item decent enough to take home & sanitize before adding it to our swag. We hit a pretty good sale yesterday, the box of small toys was actually CLEAN. Picked up a dozen decent swag items for ONE DOLLAR, all pretty good size. The action figures are fully jointed & 4"-5" tall. The Hummer is a pull&go, unscratched heart mirror, Mr. Beaver from Narnia nods his head when you flap his tail, the water ring toss game looks new & is about the size of new cell phones, a nice Barbie backback & who could pass up the rubber ducky? I couldn't wait to saw that shark's head off & cement a pill bottle lid down his throat, LOL- look for "Land Shark" cache to be listed soon
  21. We use GSAK too & not only does it send full cache names to our Legend, it also generates the necessary files and sends all of the cache descriptions & hints to our Ipod- they show up alphabetically under >extras>contacts
  22. I always thought that was how the whole "traveler" concept started
  23. My wife already had an Ipod, which I thought was a pretty big waste of money until I figured out that you can store the details for 10's if not 100's of 1,000's caches on it. GSAK converts the file format & sends details of 500 caches in 10-15 seconds, they show up under >extras>contacts, listed alphabetically. We can use the Ipod all weekend for this purpose & it doesn't run the batteries down (which are built in & recharge when plugged into the puter or cigarette lighter socket). The Ipod might not be the *most* convenient, feature filled device to use, but we had one on hand & it works very well.
