  1. just so you know there are other things that you can't update on the garmin other than than the maps.... their software updates. That is where i am running into trouble. I would like to update the sys os on my legend but can't do being it is an .exe file. Guess i will have to either find a PC user willing to let me sabatoge(borrow) for second, or give VPC7 a try... jb
  2. i am finding mine has an issue with the backlight. I will turn on the backlight and sometimes get a black screen. Other times if I turn it on it will show the info on the screen for a while then go to the blank screen. It seems to happen with any level charge of batteries..... any ideas... it is about 18 months old...and mildly used. but i think it is outside of warrenty. jb p.s. was at garmin.com looking at updates for the legend...this might be one thing that would cause your problem their system is currently at 3.6 but here is a couple of updates back- Changes made from version 3.20 to 3.40: *Updated French translations. *Improved WAAS/EGNOS satellite selection algorithm to select the satellite with the most beneficial corrections given the unit's current position. A unit will not use a WAAS/EGNOS satellite if the unit's current position is outside of a given WAAS/EGNOS satellite's service volume. *Improved external power detection.
  3. well if you have already given up then I feel sorry for you. Because with just 2 minutes of searching at versiontracker.com under gps. I found an application that does what I need Link2gps. The manufactures site is http://www.hiketech.com/. Take a look... I tried MacsimpleGOSX as well...but I think this is better as it does routes/tracks instead of just waypoints. Oh did I mention it is only $8 for shareware, and with the keyspan adapter it hooks up really easy. I think from beginning to end, I searched installed and downloaded everything from my Legend in 7 minutes. The application is also X Native - so no VPC thank god! So don't give up... BTW my system is a 933mhz G4 iBook with os 10.3.1, keyspan is the usb ->serial converter part # USA-19 or something similar. Hope this helps... jbanta
  4. by the way in speaking with grenisar we were trying to find a spot that we can host the slub site temp so we didn't have all the ads as well as host pictures and everything else. I have donated webspace on my domain, as well as set up the basics of the site. It is still in creation but it is one that is usable....with some additions in the future. check out http://okic.jbanta.org jbanta
  5. Bill Gates Took Apple/Xerox operating system/Left future cachers several hundred bugs & security risks...
  6. I have been looking for something as well to do. I know we have several trails around here(KY, OH, IN, TN, VA) So hopefully there will be some interested in getting the Jeeps & GPS's out....oh just to make sure you were talking about the big 4x4's not the quads or speedbumps......
  7. Just curious if there is a list of states and the approvers....and if not which state is covering for your state. And as a second part of this- if there is a list is it broken up into geographical locations inside that state?
  8. quote:My feeling is this. When I place a cache I'm inviting people to visit it. I'm playing host in a way. As long as my guests have a good time during their visit and follow the rules I'm not going to grumble. I agree.... I haven't put any caches out YET!, but when I do if the finder doesn't post online, so be it.....I feel that is an extra bonus. Like several have said before this place is about who got more than who....are you being the same when if you complain because they don't leave a digital signature, posting that more people have found your cache than your buddy you are competing with. This isn't a competition, it is a fun way to relax out in nature. quit whining because someone didn't want to bring technology into something that is completely natural (ok yes we are using technology to find it )
  9. just a suggestion and it might be what you are already doing.....but don't just take them to the cache...give them the gpsr and let them find it. sit back and enjoy watching....that way they are reporting on first hand experience rather than just a show and tell
  10. new to the scene, but enjoying it already. live and cache mainly right now in nky. but I claim cincy as home not sure what you are planning on doing for a club, but if needed/wanted I can make a decent site for the club....i won't be able to make it to the meeting but if something is wanted I can create, and it will be in php so several ppl can maintain update(with forums, news, everything..... see orfw.org for an example.) if this is of interest, let me know.... i can possibly host it even if everyone is ok with it being either a subdomain of either jbanta.org or eatsleepjeep.com....since those are two I own..) ok I am rambling, but i am love geocaching, and wanting to help the people in the area....let me know what ya think. email - geocache @ jbanta . org
