  1. I just picked up a new Garmin GPSmap 62s and noticed the backlight on the keypad is very dim. I had a 60csx which I sold 2 years ago so I have nothing to compare it too. The Keys are back lit but in total darkness they are pretty dim. Just wondering if this is the norm or does mine have a issue. Thanks
  2. I wish i could return my 1500 also . But I am in the same boat with newegg I think I am going to wait on the Colorado for a little. Maybe Magellan will get their act together if not ebay the 1500 and a get the pricey Colorado
  3. The updates are out . I just updated my 1500 but have not has a chance to play with it yet.
  4. From reading the forums and the triton Yahoo group it seems that some have had luck getting it to work with Vista but a few people I have talked to who had it working on vista said the had a tough time getting it going . Probably if kept at it I might have eventually got it to work but it was not worth the effort. Vista has been a pain for me since I loaded it up and there is a bios update for my motherboard that just got released so I might try it again after I update my MB
  5. I had the same problem with my triton 1500 and Vista 32bit. Windows found the device. It shows up in device manager as Magellan Neptune device but not matter what I did I could not get Vantage point to recognize it. I eventually just gave up and I am using my laptop running XP to load maps and waypoints up with no problems.
  6. I just got my Triton 1500 Back from Magellan with everything in the box that should be in the box . Let me just say that Magellan’s customer support with this issue was great once I got past the initial outsourced support but to be fair and I am taking a guess at this that their outsourced support had no clue that the 1500 was released or had any information on the unit because I am assuming it should have not been released at that time. After that I was contacted by the right people and everything was handled smooth and fast. And I could not have asked for better service. I have to head out for a little so I will not have a chance to play with it until later but I uploaded the user manual to the triton yahoo group if anybody wants to check it out. I did not see any options to upload files here .
  7. I did not have the manual for the unit but I do not belive it can do that ( I have sent mine back and can not check on anythng untill I get my new one back) As for the early units that some of us have received I believe it was stated either in this thread or the other 2 threads that are going on that these units where not supposed to end up for sale and mistakenly wound up at the distributor. I really really wanted one and as soon as I saw it for sale online I jumped on it. I do not regret it. I really liked what I saw so far. Hopefully when my new unit gets here I will be able to test everything out. I will be doing a winter camping/hiking trip next weekend and if it gets here in time I am going to load up my Ng Topo maps to it and really test it out :-)
  8. To tell you the truth it felt more solid then my 60csx . It seemed well built and had a good feel to it. The “Spoiler” part is attached well I assume it can be used to clip something to it?
  9. Sorry guys my Triton is packed up and ready to ship back to Magellan But I did manual type in one cache and it did let me type in some of the description. I will let you guys know when I get my updated Triton. And answer any other questions Thanks Matt
  10. Coming from Garmin I do not have any mapsend software. I did download Vantage Point and I also have had NG topo for a while (one of the main reasons I want the triton) but with out the cable there was not much I can do . I did put some put some pictures on the SD card and was able to view them.
  11. A Few Updates. I received the Radio Shack triton 1500 and guess what no cable or manual or cd. I already received my RMA and RS will be sending me a prepaid return shipping label and I will get a full refund Now the good news sort of I did get a call back from a very nice gentleman at Magellan Corporate this afternoon he apologized for the inconvenience and they are going to exchange my unit out for a new one. They will be sending me a prepaid UPS label to ship mine back to them and then send out my new one. He also said that he will send me a free case once they become available. So if everything works out I should have my new complete triton in a week or so.
  12. I did not time it but I had the Triton and the 60csx next to each other on my living room floor and turned them on at the same time. The triton won but not by much.
  13. I created this thread because the other one has become a little crazy. So let’s just talk about actually units and dealing with Magellan customer support as it pertains to the Triton series. I currently have A Triton 1500 from newegg.com that did not have The USB Cable and Manual. I have contacted both Magellan and Newegg about the problem The csr at newegg placed an order for the missing parts for me. She informed me that if there was a problem I would receive an email informing me to contact Magellan. I did this on Friday and I am going to follow it up sometime today. I also have been calling Magellan. If you ever talked to a brick wall that is what I have experienced talking to them. I have called them 2 times a day on Friday and Yesterday. Every tech I spoke to was not up to date on the triton series and I was informed I would get a call back on every call which never happened. I was able to finally get a reference number yesterday and I plan on following up today. I decided I want to like the unit so I also ordered another one from radioshack.com which btw has a 30day full refund on the product. This unit I fear will also be missing the cable because it looks as if both units are being shipped from the same place somewhere in NJ. Both radioshack and newegg do not have these in their Warehouses they are drop shipping these from the same location probably one of Megallans fulfillment centers I should be getting my second unit today but I think I might be returning it today also, From what I have played with so far I like it but I have not used it in the field yet. If you have any questions I will try to answer them the best I can
  14. Here are a few pics of the triton 1500 next to the garmin 60csx. Since I do not have the USB cable yet I can not load any thing on it yet. .From just from playing around with it this evening it seems pretty neat. Some early observations so far. Please note I have not had a chance to actually use this to find any caches or to navigate anywhere The 60csx is much easier to read without the back light it. You really need to get the t1500 at the right angle to view it but it is fine with the backlight on which is much brighter then the 60csx backlight There are a few bugs most noticeable for me so far is that once you use the lamp button to turn on the backlight the unit dose not automatically shut the back light off anymore so you have to hit the lamp button every time you what to look at the screen unless you restart . There is a touch screen lock on one of the profiles that locks not only the touch screen but it seems all the keys after a predetermined time. Since I do not have the instructions as of yet it took me a little to find the right key combination to unlock it which is pressing the zoom in and zoom out buttons at the same time. It has a good feel to it and seems pretty sturdy the only thing that that bothers me with the case is the hold slide button which seems to rattle around under the plastic cover. I like how the menus are with the exception of backing out or exiting a menu. If you guys are familiar with using windows mobile you will know that there is a x button in corner of the touch screen to exit out of the menu well that is not there on the Triton. To back out of a menu you need to press the esc button which I think is not located in the greatest spot. Other then that the touch screen is awesome.
  15. That Sucks! Mine should be here this afternoon :-( I guess I will be calling up Magellan CS soon.
  16. Newegg has them listed as out of stock. So they sold out or pulled them because of complaints. But then again Radioshack.com has them listed in stock I guess the bleading edge has its price
  17. Doesn't appear to be possible. Guess I'll start calling NewEgg and Magellan customer support and see how it goes. Any luck ? Mine should be here Monday now I am starting to get a little worried
  18. Jen, Do you know what warehouse they shipped it from? I am thinking about ordering it at newegg and hopefully they ship it from their Edison New Jersey Warehouse so I will get it tomorrow. BTW I have ordered a ton of stuff from newegg and never had a problem Just that their csr's cannot tell you where they are shipping from. Also if you check there return policy on the triton it is Limited Non-Refundable 30-Day Return Policy * Return for refund within: non-refundable * Return for replacement within: 30 days Not as nice as as REI which will take anything back so keep that in mind Thanks Matt
  19. Sorry, but TigerGPS is saying mid-October, and Magellan is telling me they won't have review units till early-mid October. Thanks for the info Oh well I guess I will pick up a 60csx in the meantime and sell it when the tritons come out that is if they are as good as they look like they are going to be.
  20. Hopefully this will not be considered a double post I started another thread on the topic but Is their an official date when these are going to be released.. I am in need of a new GPS before the end of the month for some hiking trips and I am on the fence right now almost pulled the trigger on a pn-20 but read too many bad reviews and really want something that can do raster graphics
  21. The Triton looks great but does anybody when we expect it to be released? I have read various sites on the web and it ranges from September to November is there a official date floating around out there? I can’t wait
