  1. Very funny but an unnecessary slam on Wal-Mart greeters, my mother is one, OK not really but you didn't know that.
  2. I wish we could vote people off the island.
  3. Okay, here's an honest answer: this cache seems similar to the one in the OP. But I thought the remark about the non-working webcam cache was funny
  4. So what was *I* looking at? The one the just said "Steakhouses" without the "Superb" part???
  5. KB9mvh: you make a very good point which I totally overlooked. The unit measures barometric pressure, period. It is *always* a barometer, why have a special setting to fix the altitude if it is not needed/used? I suspect what is happening is this: You tell it you are at a fixed altitude (barometer mode), the unit stops using barometric pressure to calculate your altitude BUT it still uses the satellites to determine altitude. Just a guess. The way to test this is to put it in barometer mode with a storm (big pressure change) approaching and see if the altitude changes a lot.
  6. Jamie, the link doesn't work. So if you go the Directory, Business/Commerce, Restaraunts, Help us Review New Categories, Steakhouses then this is what you see:
  7. How do you get to the usb mass storage mode? I have the latest SW (both) but can't find it.
  8. I know I'm prejudiced, but that's the only unit I would look at after getting one myself, the 60CSx's are simply awesome! Same here. I just got mine and I love it.
  9. The 60CSx is wonderful. If you have it routing "on-road" while driving to the cache and forget to switch to "off road" you can get erratic behaviour during the cache search. This happened to me a couple of days ago, it kept taking be back to the road! I just tested mine against a known benchmark and got 7 to 12 feet error (without WAAS). The auto-routing is cool and the menus are fairly easy to navigate. The reception is excellent under tree cover.
  10. I duplicated the OP's problem with my 60csx. I didn't have a lot of time but the altitude did change. The question is this: does it work as a reliable barometer in the above configuration? I didn't have time to test that. I suspect that the ALTITUDE is still changed based on the satellites but that the barometer millibars are being adjusted based on the air pressure (given the *starting* altitude.) Garmin may have an explanation.
  11. I am getting the same behaviour as hogrod on 60csx. And now that I have updated I am getting WAAS!!!
  12. You are correct, I just read your OP again and the manual pages for altimeter setup and it says it should function like a barometer. Seems like a bug to me.
  13. A barometric altimeter is subject to the current air pressure, as the pressure changes the altitude reading will change.
  14. Go to Setup, Units and make sure your GPS has datum set to WGS 84.
  15. I volunteer. People can put whatever 3-digit number they want inside each individual cache. Then, when all are placed, send me the numbers and the coords of the final and I'll come up with the math to get the final coords from the 3-digit numbers in such a way that all the 3-digit numbers are required in order to get the coords. Yes, the math to do this does exist. Yes, it will be possible to do the problem using only a handheld calculator. And no, it won't matter if 2 (or more) of the individual stages have the same 3-digit numbers. Trust me. Cryptography has other uses besides puzzle caches! I volunteered to do this many pages ago...but I really don't care who does it.
  16. Since the OP claims to want to get rid of "i hate micros" threads it got me to thinking... Threads I hate (in no particular order): - Micros are lame - Bring back the Virts/Locationless - My new GPS stinks - Garmin vs. Magellan etc. - Waymarking stinks - My cache didn't get approved (or got archived) - WAAHHHH! - What constitutes a FIND/DNF etc? - Caches along a route (just kidding!) - Let's rate caches! - I have been caching for a month and I have this great idea for a new cache type. - Please cache the way I do. I probably missed some.
  17. Please tell Garmin, they seem to be unaware that it is released.
  18. In two days I should be getting a new 60csx with the auto kit that comes with city select v7. From reading this thread I don't think v8 is official released yet. Should I wait to unlock after v8 is released? What say you?
  19. The military GPS should help you find the ammo cans.
  20. My first cache was reviewed within hours, before I placed it even. I was confused about the "Yes, this listing is active" check box. So I had to run out and place it right away before the FTF'ers got there.
  21. Deploy the numbers to the states, the puzzle for the last cache can come once we know the coords for it. If you want to email me the 50 numbers I will show you how to create a puzzle so the coords wind up being at the Lincoln Memorial or whatever.
  22. Is there a pic of the coin somewhere?
  23. For the record one of the coins in the OP is all done (Vermont) and NFA has his.
