  1. You could try googling geocaching groups.
  2. Out of curiousity I just checked closed auctions for the Vermont Geocoin, one sold for $33 and other auctions got no bids, I don't get it.
  3. I will add to this that I also have doubts about anyone ever gettting to all the caches.
  4. The math will only be on the final cache, not the 50 state caches. The caches will all be placed wherever the state cache placer wants them, even the final cache can be placed anywhere. I (or somebody else) will create a formula based on the numbers hidden in the first 50 caches that will give the final coords for the last cache. Tharagleb, Can I count on you for the math for the final? We don't have the final settled yet but I would still like to begin getting these out and hidden. We want it to be basic math to determine the location of the final based on numbers found in each cache. I believe you had said that we could use basically anything now and then work the puzzle later. What should we begin distributing code-wise to the individual states? -BPR I think if we gave each state a unique three-digit number (100-999) that would be enough to do a good puzzle. I will do the puzzle and, of course, withdraw from the competition. I doubt that I will ever get to all 50-states anyway. I will have the puzzle independently verified by another well-known puzzle cacher. I will make the puzzle so that you can't even get close without all 50 of the numbers. I suggest the PUBLISHED final coords be 1 to 2 miles from the ACTUAL coords. BTW, the state numbers should be RANDOM (100-999) and don't actually have to be unique.

  6. No, I can take 50 random numbers and use them to compute any coordinates desired, and make it so that nobody can short the multi. So... if I were to start distributing 5-digit codes now, you could work with whatever I gave out later? Yes, once we have the coords for the final I can arrange a way for the 50 numbers to go into a formula and have that produce the coords.

  8. Like the new clean design and prefer the new tag line. I am in for two or three. (I too dislike the star being seen thru the moon, it is a pet peeve of mine. I also don't like it when the tips of the lighted side cover an arc of more than 180 degrees from the moon's center, you are close on this so I will let it slide.)
  9. Except there IS an icon on the search results page that indicates micro. This information is on the VERY FIRST POST that replied to you. No sence in actually reading the thread is there? That would be to easy. This is the icon for micros: This is the icon for regulars: etc. [Edit to add icons]
  10. I don't anticipate any problems since what we are creating is going to be 51 seperate caches. If there is a reviewer watching, can you chime in? Otherwise I will go ahead and run it by my local reviewer(s). Okay, I missed that part, thought it was a 50-stage multi. Still willing to do Vermont.
  11. We probably want to run this by an approver or 2 or 3 or so to make sure it has a hope of being approved before we get too far into this.
  12. I'll take Vermont. I suggest a 51 stager, last cache to be in Washington D.C.
  13. Oops, I was looking at ClayJars SCUBA page and the first one l looked had the "Swimming" attribute, I see there is a SCUBA attribute also... Never mind...
  14. This must be a regional thing. I haven't noticed any inaccurate attributes on the caches around here. There's a local "in joke" where many caches in the San Francisco Bay area have the "no snowmobiles" attribute, but even though it's silly, it isn't inaccurate. No Snowmobiles= The attribute is "May Require Swimming" not SCUBA, so I don't see what the fuss is about (re: attributes searches giving SCUBA people false hopes)
  15. The Legend is NOT worthless in the woods. It isn't as good as some but I have found many caches in the woods with a Legend. Make sure and hold your Legend horizontal so that the display faces up. If you hold it any other way it will lose the sat lock.
  16. 1) Etrex Legend - died of screen failure after 2 or 3 years - RIP 2) A very old Maggy not sure model - came out before SA was turned off I gave this one to someone who lost their GPS in a stream or something. 3) Etrex Legend - currently using, bought in forums 4) Etrex Legend - bought as backup (forums again) and to share, still used as backup GPS Next: 5) 60 csx - waiting for vers. 8 of City Nav to come out first.
  17. Yeah, that pic must be from the recruiting brochure.
  18. The coins and the icons look great.
  19. I want to get a 60csx but I'm gonna wait until City Nav v8 is out. Contrary to Garmin's assurance that v7 users will be able to upgrade to v8 for free I am sceptical. I thought they have a 30 day time limit on that and if I buy v7 now and they drag their heels on release 8...
  20. See the logs from March 18th for Just off the Ash Trail #4 A bunch of us were thoroughly humiliated by this evil camo'ed micro.
  21. OMG! I don't believe it. WTG Raine!!!
  22. ... you ignore the policeman and continue to work on the puzzle you just found in one stage of a multi while your friends explain what the heck you all are doing here.
  23. I really like this idea. Question: Would you have to meet at an event or a cache? Would the "I met" log be tied to a cache? I have never met a cacher anywhere else but who knows it *might* happen one day. Just curious. [Edit: Oh and can PMs charge NPMs say $1.00 for their codes? ] [Edit 2: Add smiley above.]
  24. Personally I have spoiled all but my most recent puzzle cache on my own. I created a public bookmark that gives away the coords. I did this so that more people would hunt my caches. The puzzles were fun but some people just don't want to (or can't) solve the puzzles. Since it is all about finding the caches I am happy that more cachers are finding mine. I disagree with archiving the cache, but what is done is done. I do appreciate how hard it must have been to find the right place to hide your cache. Must have taken hours of going to spots and checking them out etc.
