  1. I originally set up my 16 TravelDucks as a race. There were some problems, and now it seems that a few of them have been lost. At this point I am just hoping they all meke it to the finish line.
  2. We have a cache in eastern MA that is very similar... However It was created before TravelBugs existed.... It is called the Thoreau Hitchhiker... Many people have searched for the coordinates of this cache... It is my personal goal to find it BEFORE the end of this summer... Here is the link to it.. Thoreau Hitchhiker (Dave Jennings) I say go for it... It could become a good hunt... The worst that can happen is that it will not, people will get annoyed, you pull the bug and make the cache a traditional cache, or multicache... nitefall
  3. Connor's Clan, I have not really set up a pagge where you can track each duck... They are all linked from the original Make Way For Ducklings page ( I don't have the link right now) Do you know of a way to create a tracking page that will compile the info from all the ducks.... I suppose I should ask Jeremy that. Nitefall

  7. Connor's Clan The original 8 ducks from Make ay for Ducklings (the book) were named Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack. I just continued the theme fromthere for the next 8. You will notice that all the names are alphabetical starting with the letter "J" That is about all the meaning... Although, in the story Quack was always my favorite... Always being last... Interesting that Quack was one fot he last to leave the Cache... I am rooting for Quack.

  9. I just rleased 16 Travel Bugs on the 1st of April, from Massachusetts. The Idea was that they were to take all summer to get to Seattle (My wife and I will be moving there in the fall) and we would collect them when we got there... Before I placed them I read a lot of posts in the forums regarding Travel Bugs, and the problems and disappearances.... I decided that except for nagging people about logging my bugs in and out, I was going to let them get there however they got there... It is sort of a free form thing... I had not counted on 2 miracles of the modern world. FedEx and Flights to Alaska. By the 3rd of April one of my Travel Bugs was in the destination cache in Seattle. It was FedExed by a local cacher to a cacher in Seattle. Another one seems like it will sit dormant for several months, before the current holder will deposit him somewhere in Alaska on a trip in June. I decided not to say anything, to let the bugs get there how they would, but I really had hoped that they would go from cache to cache, person to person across the country... Am I disapointed? A little bit.... but that is my decision to live with... Am I excieted to see what the rest of them do?? You betcha!!!
  10. I just released 16 of my little ducklings into the wild.. 2 Days!! They were all gone inside of 2 days!! I am hoping to catch up with them all in the Seattle area... but who know...

  12. These guys might just head you way... If they do, you are free to pick one up...

  14. I released 16 Travel Bugs in th Boston area yesterday. They are currently located at the Make Way for Ducklings cache. My question for the group... Is it reasonalble to expect these ducks to make it to Seattle within 6 months... Some of the TB reprots I have seen take much much longer to cross the country... nitefall I almost forgot to mention... they spent their first night out in the rain... I hope their Cache container keeps them warm and dry

  16. No... Hear me out on this one... What if you wanted to place a multicache, and wanted to have separate cache logs for each part of the cache... Wouldn't it be possible, and dare I say even great if you could generate a cache page at Geocaching for the supsequent parts of your multicaches without giving away the coordinates?? My idea is this, you enter the cache as you would any other, including the coordinates, but you elect to keep the coordinates hidden. Perhaps there is a description of what you need to do (which cahce you need to go to) in order to get the coordinates to this cache. My understanding is that all caches must have a set of coordinates (and not N00 00.000' W000 00.000) to aid in the accuracy of Travel bug tracking. So currently if somebody deposits a TB in one of your subsequent caches, and logs it on the cache page, the TB claims to be in the first cache in the series, rather than the cache it is really in, thus adding error to the TB distance tracking. Just a thought, as I recently posted a multi-cache that will result in the discovery of 18 of my TravleBugs (I am still preparing them for departure, so don't everybody start running just yet) Unfortunately, the cache containing the TBs is going to be a couple of miles from the original cache... Not that 1- or 2 miles over thousands really makes a difference... but I sort of wanted people to log their experiences at each part of the cache... Well what does the group think of this?? 17. I would have to agree with Macro on this one... If somebody wants to "cheat" it is up to them... this isn't really a numbers contest... for me it is personal accomplishmnet. I know what I did to find a cache... they are the only ones who have to live with the fact that they "cheated"... Not me, I don't care... To put it really simply.... Geocaching is not a competition.
  18. Funny this topic should resurface, after so long.... BUT just yesterday I found a CD-ROM in the Greenway Cache that is definately "Adult" in content, and misleading... The paper it is wrapped in said something along the lines of "some of my favorite things... Ideas that I like... Information about me..." Suffice it to say, it has now been removed from my pool of items I taken from other caches and leave in new caches... I chose not to mention it on the cache page, as I didn't think it was part of a larger picture, rather just an isolated incident... Put perhaps not... Perhaps the "Adults" (and by that I mean childish adults) are beginning to plant their material.. Come on people... When I want to see tits and ***, I will go find it where it lives, in strip clubs, magazines, videos etc... NOT geocaches!!

  20. Thank you all, for the info... On a side note... On about June 1st... I will be releasing 16 Ducklings with TravelBugs attached from a cache in the Boston area... They are trying to make it to Seattle before I do... If you happen to see one please help him along. Thanks...
  21. Thanks for all the info... I think I am going to take EraSeek up on his offer, as he is clearly set up to properly tend my Ducklings... Keep an eye out for a Cache called Make Way for Ducklings Pt. 1 (It doesn't exist yet)... That will be the starting point on or about June 1.. It will containt he coordinates of Makeway For Ducklings Pt. 2 which will be the starting point for the ducks... There is much necessary preparation before these little duckies can begin their journey.
  22. Hello all, My wiffe and I are moving from Boston to the Seattle area at the end of this summer. I have a project I want to try out. I am want to release 16 Pooping Ducks into the wild with Travel Bugs attached. The idea is to see how quickly they can arrive in the Seattle area and if they can get there before us. Now for the Favor.... I need a cache owner in the Seattle area who has a large cache, and wouldn't mind if these little ducky keychains used his/her cache as a final destination. The reason I ask for a large cache is that there is the potential (however unlikely) for all 16 ducks to end up in the cache at the same time. If they were to arrive sbefore we did, we would not be able to collect them before we arrived (obviously) So I guess I am looking for a host for my Duckies... If anybody is interested in hosting my ducks, please let me know... my address is nitefall@mac.com Thanks [This message was edited by Nitefall on March 18, 2002 at 01:19 PM.]
  23. Hello All... At the end of this Summer, my wife and I will be driving the length of I-90 literally (we are moving from Boston to Seattle) I was ondering if anybody has compiled a list of caches along the way, hopefully not too far off the interstate as we will be towing a trailer ($$ by the day!!) Thanks in advance for the info... My address is nitefall@mac.com
