  1. I'll take two please...Can they be paid for by money order?

Don't see why not, it will just take you a bit longer to get your coins.

Ibycus, when do you want us to send money and stuff like that? I want to order ten of them, and don't want to hold up any coins because of late payment.

    THANKS

    :D

  2. Mt. St. Helens would be our first choice like the 25th anniversary thing, and Grand Coulee Dam would be our second choice. Was thinking along the lines of

    2005 MT. ST. Helens

    2006 Grand Coulee Dam

    2007 MT. Baker :D

I really like Mt St Helens for 2005, it's a great year to do so. But I also think that if we do Mt St Helens this year, we really need to do something for the East side of the state for next year.

I'll throw this out there too, if we limit our production run to 1000, we could do a second run later this year with a different image on it. After all how many people hold on to the coin for personal collections? I know I have one for my personal collection.

(if we do limit our production run, here's my order for 5 coins). :D

    Just my 2 cents...

  3. So here's the deal. If you're using the gc.com logo they have to approve your design. I know when I contacted them about using the die they already had made for the Oregon coin I had to sign a contract. I had the choice of one stating I wouldn't make a profit or one agreeing on paying a per use fee. So I assume it's the same with any major use of their logo. Make a few no problem make a bunch and you need to kick some money back to them after approval if they okay your design.

Thanks, that's what I was kind of looking for. Do you know if the colors are part of there logo? For example my surf board uses the colors of GC.com, would that be close enough to their logo that I would need to check with them?

    Just "CYA" type of question.

    THANKS

  4. State coins cannot make a profit (I understand why).

How can this be? Since Groundspeak will not track coins, how can they have any say in this matter.

I think it has to do with using the forums to advertise and/or using the Geocaching logo or web address. There are a lot of things to do with trademarks. In reading about productions of many of the state coins there is always someone saying that they are not making a profit. If you read on the Calgary Geocoins post you will see a post by ibycus stating:

“I received a private message from a moderator about this post.

Just wanted to make it clear, that I am not selling these coins for profit. I don't expect to make much if any money out of the venture. Any money that I do make, if significant will go towards prizes etc at local caching events or to put in caches etc.”

I’m thinking it has a lot to do with the forum and the “rules” for posting, but I have seen something like this posted a few different times. That’s why I was surprised to see the West Tenn Geocoin having a company logo on one side. I thought for sure that it would be seen as a form of advertising. (Not that I am trying to get anyone it trouble, I think the coins are great!!!)

Maybe I am just sticking my foot in my mouth and I should learn to shut it…..

  5. I am thinking about designing and creating my own Geocoins. I have seen lots of postings on where to get them done, but I haven’t seen any guidelines for creating them.

I am hoping that this is the correct place to post, we do talk a lot about Geocoins here.

I am also hoping that this will get others to create their personal coins.

    From what I have gathered:

State coins cannot make a profit (I understand why). Most personal coins are not for sell and therefore will never make a profit.

What are the guidelines for using geocaching.com or travelertags.com? What about the logo like we see on the TX and Calif coins, can we use that?

Do I need to have my design approved by geocaching.com before I create them?

I know tracking will not be done on geocaching.com, it’s up to me to find a way of tracking these coins.

What other questions or concerns should I have before I start the design process?

    Thanks for your input.

  6. Wow, where'd you get the great cases ???? Looks like you found ones that fit some of the hard-to-fit coins perfectly. Is there a particular model case you found, or local place to pick'em up ?

I got the cases when I ordered my Geocoin from http://www.usageocoins.com/store.htm They are $2.50 each and fit most coins well. The Washington State coin doesn't really close that well, it's too thick, but the rest fit in there fairly well.

I'll email you about the California coins...

  9. The first time I used this name was for Geocaching. I had to come up with a nickname that hadn’t been used, and there you have it….. I also own Kiltsurfer.com, which I hope to update in the next month or so…..

The year that my wife and I decided to get married we were invited to 5 other weddings. In the planning stages we decided to do something totally different, and if you know me at all you would understand that I am just different anyways. My wife is Scottish from an Ireland background and I am Irish from a Scottish background, so we decided to do a Celtic wedding. We researched all the traditions and went all out. The groom’s men we all in kilts, and the brides maids were wearing sashes. During the ceremony I presented my wife with a sash of my clan colors and we tied the knot (actually our family and friends tied the knot around our hands, and the knot is still tied today). This is where the Kilt from Kiltsurfer comes from….

The surfer had dual meanings, one to surf the web the other is surf and in the ocean. A few years out of collage a friend introduced me to surfing. It had always looked fun and I always enjoyed the surf movies. I thought it would be fun to try. After a number of hours and trying I finally caught my first wave. HOLLY COW!!! It was a rush that I had never felt before. I had been bungee jumping, scuba diving, parachuting and rock climbing, but nothing ever felt that great. It was just mind blowing. This is where the surfer really comes from.

    There you have it….. Kiltsurfer…..

As far as Team Phatboyz, that’s another story I will save for later…...

  10. Hey fellow Geocachers,

I am currently working on my Masters of Science degree in Management. One of my assignments is to study a business or organization that has experienced a change. I have chosen to study how Geocaching.com started, the early years and how this little online dialogue developed into a global sport. I would like to gather some basic information about the people that Geocache. The survey should only take 3 - 5 minutes to complete and all questions are optional.

If you have a few free minutes, can you complete the survey at http://trekkin.com/geosurvey/

    THANKS
