  1. we refer to our daughter as the microcacher. we picked this name up from our friends who have one themselvese. Sometimes we refer to her as geocASHLYN. Then of course there is "Team MicroDaddy" where my buddy and I take our daughters out with us caching. Anything will work. let your imagination soar.
  2. I have only been caching since August 07 so i have only been trhought two seasons - Fall and Winter. I have enjoyed winter caching. Some caches are obviously not gonna be found in MI under snow, but others can be with a little bit of work. It has been great to get out this year and enjoy the snow. I don;t ski, snowmobile or ice fish, so this works out just fine. Do I get cold? Somedays, but getting out is the best part.
  3. why are the FTFs so important? What are you sacrficing? That should be your guidepost
  4. Pay to be premium - Cheaper than paying for ink and paper for all the caches I want to find. I can convert all the data I need into 1's and 0's and load it into the PDA and off I go to have fun. List caches as a premium member. You can be a regular memebr and list caches dowload coordinates - free - right to the GPS Dowload cache additional information - unless you use the features of premium membership, why do you need this information? list a trackable item - no need to pay to list - the only thing you pay for is if you buy an item. If you find one, you an log it for free. I would rather pay for the "benefits" provide by geocaching that to pay for them when I am older and need a ton of medical care because I spent my life on the couch instead of in the woods. I am glad I got introduced to geocachhng last year. It has given me a lot to do this winter in MI which would otherwise be spent inside due to the snow.
  5. FTF prizes are nice to give out but this all depends on the cacher placing the cache. If they don't want to, then they don't. I try to so that people are rewarded for their search. It doesn't have to be anything expensive. Usually around the $5 mark. The largest FTF prize I put out was for "A Bakers Dozen Challenge Cache" GC18HDD. Here the first three finders were rewarded with a nice collection of coins and swag. FTF got an FTF coin of course. I figured if they met requirements of this challenge (finding 91 caches within the guidelines) then the should be rewared. To each their own.

    FTF

FTF is really dependant on sooooooo many factors. Your location Cache location Cache publication Weather Competition Transportation Cache difficulty Cache Type All of these make the hunt either easier or harder. Were I am from FTFs are generally snagged by one of three or four big players. Lately some new cachers have had some success. I have been fortunate to get 4 in the last week. I had one if the previous 6 months. But here is how they break down FTF #1 - was cammoed too well I think. FTF#2 - Was a bit out of most folks range and it came out at 9:30 pm FTF#3 - It was a puzzle and it was Zero Degrees that morning FTF#4 - Listed as a mystery cache and it was Zero Degrees that morning FTF#5 - It was puzle and it was morning. It was 5 miles from my house. Be patient. Your day will come. Enjoy the caches you do find. They count just the same. In fact you might get to see more with doing the cache if your not racing for an FTF. I do want to say that I had considered getting the cell phone notifications and all that, but figure it is not worth the extra money every month. Now that I got these others without it, I don't plan to change.
  7. 22 on 1/12/2008; 20 on 9/8/2007; 18 on 10/27/2007 The 1-12-2008 was a solo day. The other days were with Tom_Kat who introduced me to geocaching. We intend to do some power caching in Tennessee in March. Fast ewnough to find a bunch, but slow enough to take it all it.
  8. Two caches in this area come to mind: Prowlin4snakeeyes II GC17WK5 and Upper Macatawa Conservation Area GCWBV1 The first cache is mine and subtitled "Boot Camp Edition" and the second has stages quite a was apart. I have been told Stage 1 and 2 are almost 1 mile apart. Will attempt this spring/summer. Not now as we have over 2 feet of snow on the ground.
  9. There is Seagull's Misery in Michigan that depending on the water level of Lake Michigan - could be remote. It is 3/4 mile off shore. GCGJ3 If oyu ever up in the Traverse City area - you have to attempt this cache. It is worth the trek.
  10. Reference Point - GCKEB7 - is an indoor cache. It was quite fun to do. My 13 month old daughter served a muggle repellant.
  11. I forgot about my "prowlin4snakeeyes" caches. FTF Prize for each cache was a set of Fuzzy Dice. FTF on both caches was the same cacher. So he got both sets (White on Black, and Black on White).
  12. beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Wait, that happened once while geocaching. Oh well, love it anyway.
  13. I have 25 caches palced since August 2007. #26 is coming out tomorrow. Only one is archived. Quite the variety as well. No traditional LPC from me - if it is an LPC - there is a creative puzzle associated to it. Keeps urban caching challenging. LPC = Light Pole Cache for those not familiar with the acronym. let's all put out caches for others to enjoy - not just inflate the numbers.
  14. I have placed 25 caches since joining the game in August of 07. I ahve yet to palce a cache without an FTF prize in there. Examples: Travel Slugs geocoin (unactivated) Travel Bugs (unactivated) Geocoins (unactivated) AA batteries - adult toys needs these as well Michigan State Christmas Ornament Monopoly Hallmark Chritsmas ornament (see monopoLEE cache) As for what i have come across FTF #1 - nothing FTF#2 - Little Swiss Army Knife FTF#3 and FTF#4 - it's in the mail FTF#5 - 10 $10 bills (see Binary Breakdown GC18XEE) Putting out caches without an FTF prize generally promotes lame caches (for hide numbers sake?). If you have to spend a little $ for a reward, then you'll probably be the cacher placing a slightly more quality hide. IMHO.
  15. it beats waiting around for the SAG writers to come back!
