  1. Congratulations Postie great work Bill Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
  2. I have been using the fugawi UK north 2 map for about 8 days now. The coverage is excellent, I plan a days caching, and download the relavant map areas to my ipaq, then use it to get close to the area by road, from car to cache is by meridian platinum with usual easygps data, but I still carry the ipaq for terrain info. I have checked the Fugawi map against a couple of OS maps and they look pretty good, my one problem is that I get an 'invalid folder' error when trying to read elevation DTED data, but am in contact with their support people on this. For the price, it is imho very good. I tink the name comes from that pygmy tribe in Borneo, they live in the tall grass and keep jumping up and down and say 'we're the fugawi' Bill Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
  3. What's this one, 'spring surprise'? Ah - now, that's our speciality - covered with darkest creamy chocolate. When you pop it in your mouth steel bolts spring out and plunge straight through-both cheeks. Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
  4. regarding the handicap guideline generator, are we allowed to use it when logging a cache? or is it only for owners when placing a cache? Bill Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
  5. welcome back Moss psst, do fellow geordies get any extra clues? stay safe Bill (aka clueless) Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
  6. G:UK, good or bad...? Well, let's see, they have provided me with a complete set of geocaches for uk in tomtom format, also the same for trigpoints, all free of charge, saving me countless hours typing them in, even if I did possess the geekability to do it, which is debatable. Say 50 hours @ around 50 quid an hour, 2,500 nice saving for me, even if I manage to use 10% of them that is great. They also provide me with a UK site for quick purchase of several items for wife and kids, t-shirts, caps etc. at very reasonable prices. The advice received from their website is enabling me to enjoy geocaching more and more, as does this forum. Good or bad? definately good. No, in answer to your question, I do not know any of the people there, but I hope to in my travels. Thanks guys, great site. p.s. I also signed up to GAGB, cos as my grandad used to say, listen to everyone, then chuck out the chaff and so far, haven't found any. stay safe Bill Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
  7. We have taken our three dogs on our first two hunts, however, stoker, 12yrs old, when we went out today, took one look at the car, went back into the house and curled up under the window, the look in his face was, again? no chance, it's raining Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.

  9. what about the recent spread of GPS (Geocaching Panic Syndrome) causing untold stress within range of GAGB (Globally Acquired Geocaching Bystanders) resulting in hospital admissions climbing due to GEOCACHINGUK (Great Expectations Of Cache Acquirements Causing Harm In Newbies Getting Untold Knowwhatyouaredoinglooks), and no, we haven't found one yet but we are looking stay safe Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
  10. are newbies welcome also? I should still be in the country and the dogs are not doing anything special, will have to check wife and kids though Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
  11. I don't have that problem either, I download cache files to my Ipaq, and then carry that and my meridian when going walkabout Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
  12. As you can see from the number of posts below, we are very new to geocaching. Having read through several websites and forums over the last week, about 100 hours total (yes, sad isn't it) we joined gagb mostly due to T&J, sensible, down to earth people. Since joining, everything seems to have gone haywire, kewl, all we have to do now is instead of going walking with the dogs and not returning until the black bin bag was full of others refuse, we can go walking with the dogs, fill the bin bag, and hopefully find a cache or two, I am sure that the 'managers' we have already net and chatted with will appreciate the bin bag the same way, and the cache hunting with a little more lattitude. I still look forward to reading T&J's point(s) of view, and sincerely hope they will reconsider there untimely (imho) resignation. yes, I do realise I am crossing forum topics here, but again (imho) they are combined. have fun and stay safe Bill (marinor) Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
  13. Thanks Simon, I had the POI for caches, and have now figured out how to download both gpx files and mobipocket files to my ipaq, after getting premium membership. All I need now is a light 12 volt battery that I can strap to one of my dogs or a gps jacket as you suggest, many thanks for the info. All the best Bill (marinor) Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
  14. Hi, we are brand new to geocaching, I bought a tomtom2 navigator setup mainly due to my son's requirements of being driven all over UK to meet uni friends and go to conventions etc. I work at sea and have usually two to three months on leave at a time and geocaching seems a great way to combine country/dog walks with fun. My problem is trying to interface gpxview and easygps with tomtom system, I use an Ipaq 3970, this connects to my laptop via usb. Easygps does not allow either a tomtom system or connection via usb, I am fairly comp literate and have tried changing file name extension and copying to PDA, no joy. Do I need a handheld GPS instead? Any advice would be most welcome. Stay safe Life is just an illusion, albeit a very elaborate one.
