  1. 3-parameter datum shift.

    the full polynomial datum shift

you need to make your own three parameters (dX;dY;dZ)

    user-definable datum shift

    your local datum shift

Look up the 3D Cartesian co-ords

    Airy/OSGB36

    metre-accuracy conversions

Alternatively, enter the numbers given on the cache page, follow the arrow, have a hunt around the general area and find a tupperware box <_<

  2. I often read this forum but rarly post. Is it me or is it becoming a knoking shop these days. Theres always someone moaning about someone else.

I always reckon that if you dont have anything good to say then say nothing.

There, Ive now gone and done just that. Drat.

  3. WHY ? ? ? ?    are you stupid or some thing

Stupid? - Possibly but I hope not, just having difficulty understanding your post. In order to help I have spent some time attemptig to translate it into normal English.

I was cheeky and I rang them acting "stupid" and asked them how you use a GPS etc. I said I had had a look at the link from the Oberver's web site and asked if they put their own boxes out or if they were placed by Geocachers. The lady said they had put one out on their land after saying "No" to a cacher for "Health and Safety" reasons. After there was some interest they put out more. Cheeky!

People, I guess that what they mean is "Hey, we could make money out of this!". Even if you have your own GPS you will still have to pay £2.50p. That's just not cricket is it? I never let it slip that I was a cacher. She seemed excited about the sudden interest after the advertising that they had received.

If I have misunderstood please feel free to make any corrections.

Maybe its a coincidence but I notice from your profile that one of your hobbies is "playing the muppet". Perhaps this is an example.

  4. i was cheecky and i rang them all stupid asking how you use a gps and stuff i saied i had had a look at the link from the observers web site and asked if they put there own boxes out or if it was geo cachers and she says they put one out on there land after saying no to a cacher for health and safty reasons and after they was some intrest they put mor out cheeeeekkkyyy ~~~### people i guese what they mean is hey we could make money out of this ohh yeh if you have your own gps you still have to pay £2.50p thats just not crickit is it any how i never let it slip that i was a cacher and she seemed all made up about the sudden intrest after the advertising that they have recived

    ????

Any chance of an English translation? :D

  5. Although the language is very "direct" he has every right to express an honest opinion. If people were a little less reticent about criticising caches they felt didn't "come up to the mark" maybe cache quality would go up.

And no I haven't visited these two caches so I can't comment on what they are like, I'm just saying that logs are meant to be an honest expression of a finder's opinion.

  6. I thought the olympics were about unity, friendship & friendly competionmuch the same as the spirit of geocaching. ;)

Really?! I thought politics, greed and corruption - Oh yes, and a bit of professional sport (Olympics, not Geocaching).

However, as it's going to be here let's all enjoy it North, South, East and West. And let's all try and not to lose too much sleep over the disappointment across the Channel :(:(:(

  7. I was hoping Paris would get it..... It's only a couple of hours away by train and the Frogs would have to foot the enormous bill :(

That's how I felt until a couple of days ago, but the thought of that arch p**t Chirac gloating after a French win changed my mind. It has to be worth the cost if only to wipe the smile off his face.:(:(

  8. So it is completely subjective. It seems a shame that we have a system of rating caches that has no objective criteria by which we could standardise our scoring.

I don't want to sound too negative, but does it have any real value?

The value is that if lots of people enjoy a cache (for whatever personal reasons) it gets rated highly, if lots of people think it's rubbish it'll get a low rating. If there's a mix of opinion it'll end up in the middle.

    Sounds reasonable to me.

  9. I'm sure you are making some valuable points in your post, but it sure is as hard as hell to read and follow.

I think Slytherinalex was trying to make the point that it would be easier to read a message if it was presented in a form that wasn't so "cramped", not that he was discounting what was said.

In case anyone is unsure, a very simple rule that can be followed to make things easier to read is "after a full stop (.) leave one space and start the next word with a Capital letter". Forget more complicated rules about commas, semicolons etc. if you will but try and use this one

This is meant to be helpful to all, and is NOT meant to be "getting at anyone". :D

I'll get back in my box now
