  5. My Montana 650 bit the concrete when I crashed my bicycle and the screen is shattered and whp knows what else..I called Garmin and they said to send them the busted unit and they will send me a refurbished unit for 180.00.Has anyone out there received a refurbished unit from Garmin and what kind of luck did you have with it...180.00 versus 550.00 does get your attention...and the guys at GPSCITY will honor my extended warranty on the refurbished unit...but I am interested in any feedback about refurbished unit from Garmin
  6. Could i save a satelite image say like a file by taking a picture of it and then downloading it to the droid...i am not wanting to use it as a gps but more like a picture viewer..if i were going to a certain area and i could download satelite image as a picture and then use it as needed..might be a stretch but i have it and it still function well and has a awesome viewing screen..maybe that explains it better...Thanks

  8. My wife got a Samsung S4 some time ago and does not use her Driod Charge anymore.Would it be possible to download satelite imagery from computer and read it on the droid as a stand alone unit..meaning no service to Driod from a cell co.Sitting here looking at it and am thinking it might be possible...but am not that tech savy to figure out or create a process if possible.Have a Montanna 650 and realize i could get Birds Eye on it but as i said am not that tech savy to be sure if it screwed up in the field ..that i could fix it and not ruin a day of caching maybe..might be just a passing idea but i figured someone in here would know.Hope i explained my idea plainly enough....Thanks
  9. Does anyone know of a way to find out how many caches are loaded on to a Montana 650 ...can not quite see where or if it is possible...Thank you
  10. I must say ..that this is a wealth of information..i as a newbie am trying to digest it....i forgot to add that i would be geocaching with it ..but that pretty much falls into the same parameters as hiking.... i wrote to expert gps and asked them if it would bring up the caches if lets say i entered a query... would it indicate them on their or any topo maps.i surely do appreciate the info that you have posted..thank you...... now i need to figure out how to apply it..plan to leave on a month long trip with lots of geocaching and hiking...
  11. I want to get topo map for my Montana 650 and am looking into at Expert GPS maps they seem to be good but have never had to use topo maps until now..am planning on doing some hiking..i also see that Garmin has them available also..i am sure they both have pro's and con's and am looking for some input so as to make a decision..if you have used one or both or another that you think is highly rated i would appreciate any advice..Thanks in advance
  12. Thanks ..i will keep an eye on their site.....any other downloads or other info that i should be aware of...
  13. Just recieved my Montana and went to Garmin site to register it and upgrade to latest software version for it...having done this does that mean that i also installed the latest firmware also or is that a whole new proceedure...
  14. That explains it clearly...i think i will go with sd card...have a 2008 mapsource but really struggled with it to install and finally gave up..garmin had me going in circles..probably more me than them...so the sd card would probably be my ticket....
  15. ahhh hah ..i swee that gps city offers that on their site...questioned answered
  16. That sounds great ..i am thinking of getting it from GPS city as well as the map in a micro sd card..do i have to buy the map directly from garmin to get the lifetime updates or how does that work....
  17. Am getting a Montana 650 and want to have city maps....what is the best source ..garmin City navigator..or i read something in the forums about street maps that are downloadable from different sites..and is the garmin map good or not so good..am looking for some input as to the maps...thanks ahead for all replies...

I can't help but visulizing the long lonely cold, dark nites and all those wild grranimals..oohhh the stress of it all.---LOL-- But the Nascar season is in gear and i would like if possible for it to be at a few of them and pic taken.I know i am asking a ""lot"",but thats what travel bugs are for.""Living vicariosly""..hope i spelled it right...but if i have to wait then so be it,but i'm not giving up hope someone will help me out just yet
  21. We launched our 1st TB last Nov from Going Coastal and it traveled quite well for a time, then it was placed in GCD496 and has lingered there for over a month. My question is this..is it proper to ask someone to go when they can and help move it along or not ask anyone.I like being proactive when i can.The problem with the cache is it only available 8-3:30 Mon-Fri and not in a well populated (cache) area. How would it best be handled.I know ...It's your first Travel Bug aannnnd!! but you know.... your right...it is our 1st TB.What is best way to handle it and i look at it as a ying and yang thing.
