  5. It's been a while but I thought I would try my hand at trading again. I have the following coins that I could trade. I have a seeking list in the link below that apparently you can still get to but I can't update it at the moment. Most of the coins on that list would still be of interest. Also of interest is the Dutch Rider Geocoin There are a lot of new coins I'm sure that I've missed out on so you can always just send an offer as well. Crowesfeat30...please drop me an email to discuss a trade you might be interested in. Thanks
  6. It would be a nice little road trip which I'm sure we would be able to make.
  7. Sorry if this takes it a bit off topic but I think it still has some relevance to the subject... I'm looking at releasing a number of coins in the near future and I was wondering...for the coins that are still traveling did you have any kind of 'passport' attached with them or anything? I'm just curious if that might increase the odds of a coin staying on the move or not?
  8. Wow!!!! I haven't received a coin package in so long that I never thought for a minute that I would be having a coin encounter. But sure enough, there it is - #108. What a fantastic coin. Thank you so much to the Mystery coin giver. It will have a special place in our collection for sure...and just like all mystery gifts, they seem to arrive at that perfect time.
  9. Well, after a long absence from geocaching due to some difficult medical issues...we're ready to get back into the game. It's been close to a year since we were last caching and we are very excited to go on our first hunt again and also spend some more time on the list too. As I was looking through the cache listings to load in the GPSr I couldn't help but notice that there aren't a lot of coins around. I was wondering if this is a trend in most places or just in this area maybe? I'm guessing "theft" is still a big concern that deters most people from dropping coins. I also noticed that there are way more micros now which of course would account for a decline in dropped coins too? But I was just curious if it seems that coins in caches are becoming a thing of the past or not? I'm going to activate some coins and TB's and see if we can't get some going again in this area but maybe it's a lost cause..or maybe it's just my imagination. Anyway, hope to be online a bit more and get back into things again and am really hoping that interest in geocoins (both in caches and collections) is not dropping off.
  10. I can see what you're trying to say but how do you distinguish between someone who WANTS to sell it and someone who NEEDS to sell it? Also, isn't the person buying the coin someone who wants the coin too and in some cases they want it so much they pay some big bucks. So I'm guessing the new owner will appreciate the coin very much otherwise they wouldn't pay to get it?
  11. Why do you make these hunks of metal and give them away in the first place? Is it for your benefit or the person you give it too? See, what you're talking about is not "giving' out of the goodness of your heart but 'lending' out of the goodness of your heart. You're okay with someone having your coin but not owning it - so to me, that isn't giving in the first place. I guess it's the terms being used that confuse me...giving, gifting, etc.... Doesn't sound like some people are actually giving or gifting coins in the first place then or I just don't understand the terms.
  12. Wait a minute: the people KEEPING the coins and adhering to the requests made by the giver are the ones thinking they're more precious? It seems the person selling is keenly aware of the "preciousness" factor associated with some coins, no? When I say more precious I don't mean the coin itself...I mean the help that it may provide someone in need. Sure it's wonderful to have people give such wonderful tokens out of the goodness of their heart..but do they do it for themselves or for the benefit of the receiver? If it's for the benefit of the receiver then I think we need to be prepared to accept what need the gift may fill. I do agree if there is an opportunity to contact the giver and let them know your intentions that would be preferred but really, it's not a gift if it has any stings attached.
  13. That is such an ignorant generalization of some very good people that have fallen on bad times. While I have not sold a mystery coin I have had to sell some of my coins to help pay bills - and I will sell more. Will it keep me from starving? No. But it has helped pay some dentist bills for one of my kids which I could not have afforded otherwise and it has also helped me purchase some specialized food supplies for food allergies <whine, whine, whine>. If someone needs to sell a Gifted/Mystery coin then more power to them. I think we get to full of ourselves thinking that a hunk of gifted metal is more precious than the benefit it may provide. I mean, that was it's intended purpose in the first place was it not - to show caring and friendship? What better way to show it than for it to be able help in someones time of need. So what good is the gift if we ask for it back in the time of that need? I am truly grateful for the friends I made and the gifts I received from so many of you. While I have no plans on selling these coins I do hope people would understand should the need arise. So, you may be sick of the 'sad song' but I'm still prepared to give people the benefit of the doubt.
  14. You make it sound like I've stiffed you a bunch of times or something. You've contacted me what, twice and quite some time ago? I hate to say "no" so I hestitated but did think about it...but in the end, I'm just not that interested in trading anymore - which I told you. Yes, I've had a few bad experiences which cost me a number of coins but also times are tough. I've had to sell much of my collection and trading just doesn't make sense and doesn't appeal to me as it once did. I've heard you mention before that I continue to back out of deals with you but basically when it came down to it..I just wasn't that interested in what you had and since I need the money more...well, you get the picture - I hope.
  15. Under the search box is a little check box to include the search in title and description. Check that and you'll find all sorts of geocoins

  20. The ones on the right look pretty good to me - antique coins are always my favorite.
  21. The knife isn't new..they were out before I started collecting and they come in Red, Pink, Blue and maybe even others. I've tried before to get them on eBay or other trades but not been able to get one so I'm very happy to have been able to get this one...thanks to a trade with Still-Hide.
  22. Great coin day today. In the mail was a Windis Geocacher Stammtisch, SpaceGate BN, Compass Rose Black Sea, Blue Cub Knife, Dark Blue Tengwar and a Caching under the Stars. All great looking coins for sure.
  23. When I started the only way for me to really get involved in the geocoin community was to get these "commerical" coins. There was no way I could do all the things I wanted to do (trading, missions, gifting, dropping coins) without being able to buy coins first. I started out buying lots of in stock coins and the join in on a group coin. I had some design ideas too which luckily (for me anyway) were able to came to fruition. I was now able to become a real part of the community. I was trading, joined in on some missions, sent some coins out to other newbies when I could and tried to pay back all the generosity that I was shown when I started. I was even able to drop coins in caches which I love to do. I never activate them - we just like to leave them as gifts. Yes, and I've sold some on eBay too but it's to help fund my Pathtag obsession. We love to trade and drop pathtags too and since I can't cache like I once did...my kids do most of the dropping for us now. So my point is that even the commercial coins can still be a good thing for the community and can still help promote the game. I can understand why to some it seems like the coins of today just don't have the same appeal as the did before. It's not about the designs in most cases - it's about the less personal feel of the whole venture now. I can understand that but I think it had to change if the sport was to grow and unfortunately there is always bad that goes with the good. I just hope that folks can still try to see the good as well as just the bad.
