  1. Hey everyone, I have a Garmix Etrex Vista HCX and I've got a number of geocaches in memory that I found months ago but never logged. Is there anyway to tell what date I found them? I hit the "found" button on my GPS as I made each find.
  2. As has been explained before the defects are prioritized and the more important ones are fixed first regardless of age. Since only 200 people use the beta maps and even fewer care about PQ maps but everyone is wildly excited about challenges it only makes sense that defects with challenges get fixed first. Only 200 people use these maps because they don't work. People would use them if they worked. In reading through the forums, a lot of excitement over Challenges is due to the fact that they were released before the maps were fixed. A bit of an inside joke here and a full load of sarcasm. The inside joke is when the Google earth viewer was removed the comment by GS was that only about 200 people used it. The screams were a bit loud. The viewer was resurrected. Yes we were forced to use the beta maps when there was the big server overload and upgrade. A couple quick patches were laid on to make them somewhat more useable. One would think that after the upgrade we would get the old maps back. We got two broken map systems instead. Then we lost the PQ maps with the old maps. The cries for map fixes the last several months has been met with "We tried a different way but it did not work" or "there other things the team had to focus on". One thing I have noticed about GS is they apparently do not have a version control system in place. If they make a change that breaks things they can not roll the change back and all they can do is hack the code until it is somewhat useable and we are left with a broken regressed feature that is never fixed. In my area the growth of challenges has been meager at best. An initial surge and then very little after that. Far as I am concerned the next several updates can be nothing but bug and map fixes. I don't really need new, buggy, "features" that I really won't be using. I use maps alot. It would be nice if I could use the maps on the site instead of loading a PQ into GSAK and use the maps there. I use bookmarks alot, it sure would be nice to copy a bookmark. Lol! I didn't know that bit of history. It certainly seems the attitude hasn't changed one bit.

  4. I was able to get OpenWIG version 0.3.91i to work on my 8830 last night. The OTA version is 0.3.92 and it wouldn't work, so I downloaded the slightly older version, unzipped it, uploaded onto my own website and then accessed it with my Blackberry to do an OTA install. I loaded and ran the tutorial cartridge and it worked. The problem really seems to be with the Blackberry GPSr. I've noticed with other programs that it really doesn't seem to feel like working all that often, and it will get a lock and then just drop it for no apparent reason. That's what happened while I was trying to play the tutorial and as a result I was unable to complete it. If anyone has any suggestions for how to configure my Blackberry or OpenWIG so they'll work together, I'd appreciate it!
  5. Windows Vista Ultimate IE7 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/gmnearest.a...;lon=-114.13985 I am running Norton Internet Security but not 360
  6. I didn't know that setting existed. Unfortunately it didn't work, but it was worth a try. Thanks.
  7. Overwhelmed, unpowered USB hub, perhaps? I've been using a hub but it is powered. I also tried connecting directly to my computer and that didn't help.
  8. My Vista HCx just began shutting down when I plug it into a USB connection. I've restarted my computer, switched batteries, tried a different cable and USB plug. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?
  9. Hey, Thanks! I wonder how many Dulcimer Playing Geocachers there are out there, anyway. And I appreciate the link to the thread! Thanks again! Appalachian or hammered dulcimer? Myself, I pick a five string banjo. Think there are many old time & bluegrass / gecocahing events out there?
  10. I have a Handspring Visor Platinum and I also encountered problems when I bought a computer with Windows XP (nearly 5 years ago now). It simply wouldn't hot sync. Palm came out with a new version of Palm Desktop that is compatible, but it can be hard to find on their website. Follow the link below and enter your model and O/S. On the next page you need to enter your Visor S/N (mine's under the battery cover) and then you can download the updated version. http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/win_desktop.html You might need to make sure your old version is uninstalled before installing the new version, but otherwise just follow the instructions. When it gets to the part where it tells you to hot sync your Visor, plug it in and hit the button and let Windows do its thing, otherwise it won't work. Let me know if this works. My Visor actually is my GPS, as I have a Magellan GPS Companion. It's somewhat antiquated but it seems to be quite accurate.
  11. Isn't prohibiting certain things just because you don't like them being intolerant? Why do those who are opposed to religion, Christianity especially, scream "tolerance" while being unmovingly intolerant towards Christianity? If you don't like it just ignore it and move on.
