  1. um, can we please discontinue this conversation, and leave this thread for the yeah or ney's for the playground attribute as was my original intent? It's started to get a little off topic. Feel free to continue the discussion offline or in different topic forum. Thanks!
  2. can someone define for me what hamster caching is?
  3. I 1. assess the logs and/or cache condition. (if there are five or more logs saying it's missing, AND those logs are from cachers with at least 1000 caches logged, then there's a problem) 2. Email the owner 3. Wait a couple of weeks. 4. No response, post a NM log. 5. Wait a month. 6. Still no response, put a needs archived log on cache. I firmly believe it's all about communication. Someone can not get to their cache for months if they don't want to, as long as they're posting logs telling the cachers of the situation. And anyone who places a cache, is responsible for it, therefore, should definitely be reading their email. If they "don't have time" to read email...they shouldn't be placing caches.
  4. I don't like putting caches on the eqipment for all the reasons already stated...i was looking for an attribte that would say something like "playground nearby".
  5. I don't think duct tape is lame or the easy way out...however I have noticed it doesn't cover as well as the cloth or even better, the spray paint I've used. I buy all my stuff at the gun and hunting stores near me for camo and have tried it all. Seems like the ones that blend in best are the ones i've spraypainted camo...the cloth does a good job as well, however, i've noticed bugs like nesting in it...and being a girl...well..ick. *grin* as for other supplies like the wire...i LOVE craft stores...you'd be surprised what you can find there... I also think the best containers are the ones directly from nature...pick a site, grab some nature from the site, make it into a cache, and return! Those are the hardest to find!
  6. I have often searched for "kid friendly" caches and then read the description looking to see if it has a playground. I have a 2 -yr old son who loves playgrounds and this way we both can have fun. I've noticed that just because it says kid friendly doesn't mean it has a playground. When reading the forums, I saw the other side of this... There are some people who hate caches on or near playgrounds. In the interest of all, I think it would be great to have an attribute devoted specifically to this for lovers and haters of playgrounds alike. I realize there are other ways to search for playgrounds (satelitte views, etc), but this would make it much easier. I wrote "the powers that be" here on geocaching.com, and they told me to post a thread and see what the consensus is, and they would keep an eye on it. So, yeah or nay?
  7. One mans junk is another man's treasure, i think...I love trading swag...the first couple hundred of caches I traded everytime, now I'm a little more selective. I have a shoebox of my favorites over the years and often go thru it just to admire...one of my favorites was a a fist carved from wood. I look forward to sharing my "treasures" with my son when he's old enough. Now I trade for items I know he'll play with, right now he's really big into matchbox cars and army men. I went online to one of those teacher "prize" sites and bought a big box of colorful erasers. I often leave a couple of those even if I haven't taken anything. I also usually keep a bag of swag in my backpack of items I'd like to receive. I can't ever imagine wanting a used ticket stub, but I've heard of people that have collected them. As for golf balls, when I was younger my sister and I had a collection of golf balls. We collected them whenever we found them and used them to dive for in our pool. If I see tennis balls, I take those, since I have three labs. As long as it's not garbage (broken glass, crumpled up paper, etc.) I think it's worth being called swag. Also, I'd like to think on a very small scale I'm known around my area for having cool swag in the caches I place. I usually have a blast going to the store to stock a new cache. I've gotten new boxes of crayons, fun colored post it notes, deck of cards in the shape of a bunny's head, miniature bowling ball game...etc...all still wrapped. I had never thought to go out and restock my caches once in awhile until I read this forum, but now I think I will. Thanks for the idea. There's my 2 cents.
