  3. That's great news. Is there a chagring unit, other than the GPSr or cell phone, available? Not quite sure, I came across the battery info on gpscentral.ca while looking at the explorist 600 there was a link for an independant review. Chris
  4. To all you Explorist users that have the Li/Ion battery. Princess Auto have Motorola T720 batteries that are a direct replacemant for the Magellan battery for $4.95 Chris.
  5. Well, I bit the bullit and splashed out on a GPSMAP 60CSX. I had a good look at a 60CS in the store and liked the look of the screen and controlls, I dont think I will have any problem seeing the map or any other of the screens. Thanks to all that replied, your advice was much appriciated. Chris
  6. I was using my CD burner to install the CD. However, your suggestion did give me an idea. On my other system, I narrowed the problem down to two files that wouldn't copy without the disk error. So I went to my main system and tried to copy just those two files. One of the two files did copy successfully using that system. I popped the CD into my son's system and got the last file copied without any errors. Now I just have to burn my own CD #2 and cross my fingers that it'll install completely. I'll probably call up Magellan tomorrow and see about getting them to send me a new CD without having to return this defective one. But at least I, HOPEFULLY, have something that works in the meantime. Thanks! Scott Hey no problem Scott! glad I helpled to get the old grey matter moving! Chris
  7. I Thinnk I may be confusing some people, let me try and clear it up. My Sportrak's display seems to be more "chunkier" for want of a better word, almost like having a pc monitor displaying 640x480 and 256 colors. Then the Legend appears ( to me it does anyway) to be like putting the same monitor on 1024x1240 and 32 bit color, a more colorfull better quality, finer pixel picture. But I find that picture a bit harder to see, I almost have to strain my eyes at the detail, where as the Sportrak I can just glance at and see what I need. Do you see where I'm coming from with this? Actually I may be kinda answering my own question, I just checked the specs on both units, the Legend has a 160x288 screen and the Sportrak has a 160x104 screen. Thoughts anyone?
  8. I am going to upgrade from my sportstrak map, I would like to by the 60 CSx but the only Garmin I have experianced is the E trex Legend which my son has. I find the map and fonts on my sportrak easier to read than the Legend. Ok I'm 50 and my eyes aint what they used to be and even with bifocals I still find the Legend harder to read at a glance. My question is this, is the screen appearence and fonts on the Legend common to all Garmin units? and can the same be said of Magellan units too? Has anyone had experiance with both makes of units and could perhaps guide me in my decission. Thanks in advance Chris
  9. I've had discs do that too! Did you use your regular cd rom drive to install it? If so try useing your cd burner or dvd burner to install it instead. The laser in your burner is finer and of better quality and will stand a better chance of installing your software. I have done this many times on scratched and damaged disc's. Good Luck Chris

    Warning Levels

It sounds like I really opened a hornets nest here!!! Chris
  12. Hey Rosco, thats exectly what I do when I re-name mine, just thought I would leave it up to the individual to decide how he or she would do it. Or better still, what I did was search for cache in a say, a 20 mile radius then select them all and download them in one big file, that way you can get a page full in one file instead of a lot of individual ones. Chris

    Warning Levels

Ah!!! I see, now I know why I'm the only one I can see with a warning bar!!! Begining to think I had done something or not maybe kinda sorta? Chris
  14. I replied to a post and on completion I noticed I had a warning level of 0% underneath my name and icon. Could someone explain the warning level please. Chris
  15. HI There, if you download Easy GPS http://www.geocaching.com/waypoints/download.aspx You can download the .loc file right from the geocaching page you are looking at, from there you can upload directly into you gps. You can use a variety of other progs to do this also. A popular one right now is Gsak, you may have seen it being disscussed in the forum. For me when I first started I found Easy Gps quite simple to use, when you first use it, you have to do a little bit of setup, select your gps from the list, select the correct com port and thats it! The files all download with the same name geacaching .loc, I found after I downloaded each file I renamed the file so the next one i downloaded wouldnt write over the previouse one. If there is a simpler way, someone will tell you. I hope this is the info you require. Have fun. Chris
  16. You know what? I'm such a d*ck! Every time I got in the car with the gpsr I'd fiddle around with the toggle button to get the view I wanted, and every the time the position indicator would go of the screen I would center it manually with the toggle button! NOw if would have left it alone instead of fiddling I would have seen the map would go past the posistioning arrow as it should. Duhhhh! go figure Thanks Guy's
  17. can you snap your gpsr in and out of mount without having to screw the dadgum thing on?(so fiddly) Chris
  18. Is there such a thing a Sport Trak Vehicle mount with power cable? I've only seen them without the cable. Chris
  19. Now thats what I was trying to describe"automatic centering" so what your saying is, if I've moved around the map with the curser, just pressing the cancle or escape button will put it back to automatic centering. Chris
  20. I'm talking about the position indicator that follows the route as your moving, it would be nice if that stayed at the middle of the screen and the map moved underneath it, if you catch my drift.
  21. On the sport trak map, is there a way that I can set it up so the posistion arrow stays cantral on the screen and the map moves around it, instead of the arrow going off the screen and then haveing to cursor the screen back, this is mainly for driving, have tried a few differant settings but no luck Chris
  22. On the main co-ordinate screen I see either "WAAS" "Averaging" or "EPU"( dont have unit in front of me, so last one may be wrong). As I live in Southern Ontario and supposedly dont get WAAS, why do I see it displayed every now and again. Chris
  23. If you live in Canada, I've seen them on sale at www.radioworld.ca for can$199. Chris
  24. You can cut a region from the map and load it into your gps, its like cropping a photograph with an image prog, you just click on the square or box tool, position it where you want to cut, then form a square around the area you want, as your doing that, it tells you how much memory it will take up, so you can adjust the size to suit your gps unit, you then upload this to your gps and as the previouse poster said you can search for you friends address with a GOTO command, and it will draw a big black line right to it. Chris
  25. Hi Theole34, I have the data cable and I have used easy gps, but I also have the mapsend Canada cd and thats pretty good with routes and stuff.
