  1. In fact you will be also very happy using the unit in the car.
  2. The Oregon model has been along for some time, but you have older and newer models here. I have the Oregon 600 now and had the Montana before. I love both, they both do the same, more or less. Sold the Montana a few month ago because the model got older and once there's a new model the older model is hard to sell for a good price. The Monterra is not considered by me. Once a new good working model with a large screen pops up I will buy the larger model again.
  3. Whatever you do, DON'T format if you don't have a copy of the original Gps files. If the Gps is really corrupt now, you need Garmin support anyway.
  4. Who's talking about an app?? He/she is talking about Zambia, don't think an app is the solution here.
  5. @scgirl No problems with these options, what seems to be your problem with them?
  6. Turning it off won't show you where you are, locking the screen shows you where you are, but touching won't effect the screen,(only a warning screen is locked) also the screen on gives you less battery life.
  7. Real life with a cellphone and geocaching is not that good, mainly because of batterylife. With this phone the battery will be even worse, also you need to know if the gps glonass part really works, because it might have so called assisted gps, and if so you need a network. Anyway don't expect miracles from a phone this price.
  8. It's not compatible http://software.garmin.com/en-US/gcp.html Maybe you can use Garmin Express, it works with Firefox on my computer.
  9. I see it here, but that's DIY http://stores.ebay.com/partsforgarmin/LCD-touchscreens-/_i.html?_fsub=5869562015 How to open
  10. The 62s or Oregon 6XX, where the 62 is probably better for a starter, because it has no issues AFAIK. The Oregon has some minor issues sometimes, but the keyboard input is easy. Important to know there will be a learning curve, but there are many easy to understand video's on YT and gpscity. Garmin is used by many many people, almost everything is based on Garmin and probably you have a geocache club meeting nearby, where they will be helped, if you take an abandoned product from the start you will have incompatibility issues sooner or later.
  11. Coming from an Android app to Etrex 10 is like being in the stoneage, except for the better batterylife and ruggedness.
  12. Actually the "follow the arrow' was about the clearest and best answer possible, often good answers are not recognized, because people expect something else.
  13. You need to learn how to use it. http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-etrex-10.html#videos Navigate with etrex 10 https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=navigate+with+etrex+10
  14. No, sorry, but all versions and well back into Mapsource, proximity with circles have been a feature. Windows 10 runs on a small netbook, basecamp runs on w10. You need to adapt the video output. See the YT to make your computer believe you have a high res screen Edit: while installing W10 it will ask you to keep your personal files. If selection was yes, all your data is there.
  15. There's nothing really shocking with both updates anyway. But it works well.
  16. "We cache in plenty of areas where there is no cell signal thus making the phone useless." Not to start another issue, but this statement is wrong, to cache you don't need a cell signal. The lack of plugs to recharge them with 4 in a car is easily resolved.
  17. Either internal in the gps itself or the Sd as long as it is the Garmin folder.
  18. As suss.. said in the Garmin folder, but the name of the map is probably gmapsupp.img and you might have a map with the same name in that folder, either just overwrite that map and it will be lost or you can rename it to yourownname.img.
  19. Some did this about 20 years ago, nowdays the units are so cheap it makes no sense. And the really sophisticated ones are very hard to make (i think). If you want to do it because of the price, it want work.
  20. Probably like normal waypoints, the Gps needs to be on the location (or thinks it is) Don't know how you can do this on the Monterra, often just sliding the map to the desired location does the trick.
  21. I update a few days ago, until now no problems. I don't use B Eye images.
  22. Be aware EVERTHING you done on this unit is gone after this reset
  23. Registered maps work on 1 Gps only. The good news is; there are many free maps, even better than Garmin's maps available for download. Like OSM and probably in your case the OFM = open fiets map.
  24. I googled this; android gpx track recording roll and pitch Where locus is a well known app, but others might be just as good.
