  1. A while back I downloaded all my stats into a file and was able to upload them to a website that made a map of where i found my caches like per state, per country or even per county. I since had my computer die and I lost my bookmarks and instructions on how to do this. Can someone refer me to where i need to to go to download my stats and that web page.

  2. As the title says, I am looking for a broken Etrex Legend (blue). I slipped on some ice and cracked the glass on the front. The GPS i have works but with the broken glass is hard to read. Garmin wants to charge me a $75 to replace the glass. Can anyone help out another cacher with a good deal. Or even better is someone can point me to a website that sell spare parts for these. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you could message me with price (including shipping) if you are able to help out

Since i dont know if the Etrex models have the same glass front. Here are the measurements for the legend

    2 3/4 inches tall

    1 5/8 inches wide (top)

    1 1/2 inches wide (bottom)

    Thank you in advance

  3. A few months back, near a cache I had found less than a month before, a man was found to have committed suicide by homemade guillotine. I don't know exactly how far from the cache this was, but it was in the same small stretch of woods behind a shopping center.

    News story

    The cache

Funny you mention this, I was just going to post this and I'm not sure either relative to the cache the distance but he was found on Sunday and apparently killed himself on Friday. My parents where there on that Saturday for that cache. They found it and didn't see the body but my mom said after she heard about it she had an eerie feeling the whole time she was out there.

  4. I'm still curious how you can make a spot mandatory for a cache location. This is a game that volunteers place objects places. How can you force cache placement and maintenance for volunteers. The only way I would think that this could come close to mandatory is just having a state sponsored cache at each location that is maintained by the grounds crew for the site, but since that takes money and time i don't see any states volunteering for this.

  5. Just a little braggin on our end. We made our 200th find today and want to share with the world. I wsih i brought a camera with us this time becuase we broke down and did a happy dance in the middle of a cemetary. Glad it is a no longer used one or we maybe have gonna some intresting reactions for people mourning.

  6. I am wondering who has stories about finding some scary things in the adventures. What brought this all up was we generally team up with another team to go caching, and the other team was out doing some caches that we had done earlier. Anyways it turns out that in the same small wooded area a man build a 8 foot talk swing arm guillotine in these woods and used it to kill him self. He did it on a Friday and he was not discovered till Monday. The other team was in those woods on Saturday and swore they could feel something was not right. luckily they did not stumble upon this sight but it makes wonder if anyone has any similar or worse. Most i have found is a dead animal or two. Once we stumbled about what looked like a makeshift burial place in the woods but I wasn't gonna check it out to confirm my suspicions.

  7. I personally enjoy the hunt and looking around for a cache, I now have a good idea of what to look for as a potential hiding place but if I ever get to the point the force continuously takes the fun out of it and makes it too easy. Then the game is no longer a game but about just the numbers. IMO

  8. Well I lost my keys once got all the way back to the car before I realized they fell out of my pocket when i sat to sign the log thankfully the cache wasnt buried in the underbrush...Other then that I am always loosing pens. I donated some blood to a cache once or twice. (well nearby a cache)(( dang rocks will jump out from no where))

  9. If I understand your issue correctly, then the answer is yes each way point has to have a unique name for example you cant have 2 waypoints named 001 but 001 and 002 are acceptable names.

  11. It depends if it's a muggle that can ruin the cache, if it's an LEO and my current mood. Sometimes I've told the entire story, other times we are on a "treasure hunt" or a "scavenger hunt". If I'm in a cranky mood, then my response is "nothing, why?"

We've run into LEO's twice, I think, in 16 months and 640 finds. I've told them what's up and they are fine with it. One of them went on to tell my 13-year-old son how good the map reading skills he was learning would help him if he decided to become an LEO!

Pardon my ignorance but whats a LEO? Nevermind I figured it out....I havent had a LEO incident yet.

  12. We had a similar situation this past weekend. We were out caching on a Sunday afternoon in the business district of a local city. We were walking around a field and dumpster near a opening soon restaurant looking for a cache and it turned out to be one of the lite poles but the container was velcroed to the top of the lid so our first inspection we didn't notice it because we casually just lifted it and it made a major shrieking noise that anyone on the streets stopped to stare. so we dropped it and began to look else were. So as we wandered around for about another 5 minutes or so a black Lincoln navigator pulled up next to me asking "Can I help you with something?" First thing that came to mind was "I lost my keys" which in turn raised his eyebrow considering i was looking up loose bricks and in fence posts. He hesitated for a moment the decided to just leave. Luckily we found the cache within a moment of him leaving because we think he might have be on his way to the police station that was less then a block away. Oh well found the cache and moved on to another one.

But havent had any run in with johnny law but i tend to try to keep the geocaching brochure with me just incase .

Other then that no major muggle run ins.
