  1. doing something like what? Sorry didn't follow.
  2. Catch me if you can @ Geocaching Idaho...and Beyond An entertaining and informative blog about all things related to geocaching.
  3. When I find a cache and it is need of maintenance, do I have to log it as a 'found it' to get credit for having found it, THEN write a separate note with the 'needs maintenance' tag; or can I get credit by logging the initial find with a 'needs maintenance' choice? Thanks for your help
  4. Rozie, how was that sign hung? I have one waiting to go out and haven't figured a reliable way for folks to take it down and rehang it. I've seen a similar cache. The owner had printed up the Lost Dog sign and slipped it into a ziploc bag, with the zip being on the bottom of the page, and then taped or velcro'd it to a telephone pole. When you found the cache, you just opened the bag on the bottom, slid the sheet out, signed the back and slipped it back into the bag and resealed it. I found the cache during a rainstorm and the paper was totally dry. Bruce great idea! I think Since mine is heat laminated and has a rite in the rain log glued to the back I am going to glue a rare earth magnet to it and use a tiny nail in brick or wood for attaching it. LOVE all these stories!!

  11. I am of the opinion that if someone takes a personal geocoin to a cache and records the visit (by taking a picture of the coin next to the nano) this is good and they should get the credit. Isn't this the point- that the coin is physically logging the miles with the person?
  12. What about logging the coin AFTER the initial report?
  13. We recently took a trip and took alon our personal family geocoin. I forgot to log it in and log it back out of the caches we found. Is there a way to do this once I have already logged a cache find? I went to the edit function but no tb's pull up there. Also it there is an easier way to 'dip' than the labor intensive way I have been doing it I would appreciate the info. I log my cache find and choose the tb/coins. Then I go back to the tb/coin and retrieve it. This is soooo time consuming! Isn't there an easier way? Thanks for your help! Peace
  14. This is true, and it is also true that on this forum, an author has the ability to edit a post that they have sent only for 23 hours and 59 minutes after having first posted the post; after that it is impossible to edit the post, and the Edit button disappears after the afore-mentioned time window has passed. Okay, that's why I couldn't find it-time lapse. That seems kind of silly for the edit button to go away. Just a thought. Thanks for the info! peace
  15. How do I edit a post of my own? I am signed in but still do not find an option to do so. Thanks for your input and time! Peace
  16. I am a real newbie when it comes to the dipping thing. I do get the why part. Now the how to log 'dipping'? Do I just mark it as placed in the cache then immediately log it back out? This is indeed a time consuming thing to do. I think I will look into some of the tracking software mentioned in the thread. Now, about the car TB's- I assumed if I got one it would be for other geocachers to see and log- am I right?
  17. Thanks, that was quite easy! Headed on a cruise to pacific Mexico in less than 2 weeks- will be using this feature a lot! Peace
  18. Duct tape over a strong magnet works. Also more durable.
  19. We got lucky and found a 2nd gps on the cheap. Now the kids have one to use and the grownups still feel like they are in control. My 7 and 9 yr old LOVE watching the coords while we are en route, and they learn math/practical application stuff as well!
  20. Got 2 boys- as long as there aren't too many micros they love it. We just started with a bunch of TB's to release when we go to Mexico (our own and ones we liberated from other caches) so they are really excited about that! FYI- my kids also like georging- www.wheresgeorge.com
  21. FYI- May be a help to those of you looking for caches in far away places. I use Wikipedia.org and enter my destination- say Cancun, Mexico. Wikipedia has lat/long coordinates for the destination. Copy those coordinates, then enter them into the geocaching website. Always works for us! Happy caching!
  22. If anyone has an easier way to get info on caches in unfamiliar locations I am interested to know.
