  1. Hi there LadeBear68. It has been 2 years since you got info about activating a coin from TheCachingPlace. I am bidding on a coin from the same place. Just wondering if you were able to activate your coin through the geocaching web site? Thanks!
  2. If you get over to our part of Idaho feel free to contact me. We love to have visitors and meet fellow geocachers whenever we get the chance!
  3. yahoo- it works. Thanks for finding a way around the problem Max and 99! Happy caching all!
  4. so posting a note to my cache page and uploading photos with that note WILL cross-post those photos to my gallery? (not waiting for confirmation-going straight to the page and trying it out!!!)
  5. I am owner of "Cache Bridge" (gc2ghje) and took scenic photos at the site. I uploaded the photos to the cache page. I would like for the photos to ALSO display from my profile gallery. Currently, the only option to get photos into your profile gallery is to log my cache as a "find". This is considered bad form. sorry for the confusion!
  6. Am i missing something? Photos I took from caches I made don't display in gallery. Is this an oversight or intentional?
  7. Want another laugh? I said I would be giving cache specific missions for the coins I release; and whenever the first one comes in, I will send it out to GC1VT4E. Just hope you don't mind seeing a hole in the coin. But if it gets there, it's yours. DocWahala Cool. We will be on the lookout for it, and if you ever get out this way yourself give a holla- we love to meet geocachers.
  8. says DocWahala "...If they want to steal a coin.... then work for it. No PNG, no 1/1 or TB Hotels. Head out and be ready to bushwack. I bushwacked to get there, coin thief, you can do the same..." LOL!! LOVE your spirit! thanks for the giggle.
  9. I was a victim of that. someone stole a coin and left a proxy card so when i placed it i said left proxy card. shortly thereafter i get an email from the coins owner accusing me of theft so now i don't bother moving proxies. sounds like you got caught up in one of those 'wrong place/wrong time' situations- too bad it wasn't handled more diplomatically by the coin owner because there is always a need for those willing to move travelers to new locations. Unfortunately, releasing coins &/or TB's involves an element of risk. I too have had TB's disappear. Haven't had the heart to release any of my coins- but I am definitely going to do some scanning and make some high quality proxies. That will be worth the risk to me, and we can still have our pretty coins to look at! I will reserve my favorite for traveling w the family and dipping on our adventures. Will upload a photo when I get done.
  10. Thanks for the lightning fast reply! I can see how someone might feel cheated (those same folks prolly don't go for dipping coins either) but I would rather risk losing a proxy than my pricey investment! Geocaching Idaho and Beyond
  11. At a recent geo-event several long time cachers were lamenting the high theft/disappearance rate of geocoins. One geocacher had this idea to lower the risk of theft. Is this an acceptable alternative to releasing the actual coin? (Photocopy both sides of geocoin on a color copier at 100% size, laminate/polyurethene onto a geocoin sized wooden disk and circulate.) Just wondering.
  12. After rereading this entire thread, I have come to the conclusion that no matter how many DNF's or even NM/NA notes a cache has it is not appropriate to post a NM/NA unless you have actually searched for the cache yourself. Lesson learned. That is what these forum discussions are about. Hopefully I will be a better steward of the sport. Remember folks "...some day it will all come to an end. All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else. It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed. The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away. What will matter is not what you bought but what you built; not what you got but what you gave. What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught. What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered, or encouraged others to emulate your example. Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident. It's not a matter of circumstance but of choice. Choose to live a life that matters." Excerpted from Michael Josephson's "What Will Matter" Catch me...if you can @ Geocaching Idaho and Beyond
  13. As a geocacher that travels quite a bit I am interested in this aspect of DNFs, and NM/NA. Frequently when I am in a new area and pull up caches I run across caches that have two or more consecutive DNF's. I do not have a ton of experience, but when I see a cache with a difficulty of less than 3 and several DNFs, I would think it needs to be checked on by the cache owner. As an enthusiast, I am willing to spend hours and days searching/seeking a cache for the fun of the searching and seeking- (and logging the DNF) but many of us have loved ones who do not share our love of the sport. Nothing is more frustrating than spending hours going from cache to cache finding them muggled/missing/abandoned and should have been replaced or archived. My children and husband go geocaching with me only because I love it, and it is hard to justify asking them to spend their vacation time on a bunch of DNF's that could be avoided with proper cache maintenance/review. Experience has taught me that when traveling with my family and looking at potential caches in the area, to ALWAYS look at log entries. I am not going to drag my family on a search for a cache with a 2 or 3 star rating and several DNF's. When I find a cache like this I write a NM note. If the cache has MANY DNF's I will choose a NA and write a note, only because a reviewer should take a look, not because I think the cache should be archived. I agree with a previous post that the NA might be more appropriately named "needs reviewer attention." I certainly agree with and understand your points about caching with family. But I will not post a NM or an SBA log if I have not searched for the cache in question. I would try to contact the owner or a previous finder if I really felt compelled to step into the fray for a cache outside of my area. I also like the idea of changing the needs archived to needs attention from a reviewing cacher. Not sure what you mean by 'stepping into the fray for a cache outside my area.' I do not geocache often in my home area because caches are not placed here all that often. I do not see what is going on with caches in my home area, unless they are my own that need attention. It is when I am traveling that I see what goes on 'in my area' (of travel.) I see it as my responsibility as a geocacher to post a NM or NA (which I think of as needs reviewer attention) when a cache appears to need attention. For the level of difficulty I rated caches that I maintain, if I got more than 2 DNF notifications, I would be out checking the cache, correcting the problem if there was one, and posting a note for the cache. For whatever reason, travel, work, illness.... this is not the way it always works. For the sake of the game, geocachers should be willing to provide the time it takes to maintain their hides in a very timely fashion, or archive them.

  15. Thanks to you both for answering my questions. Sure wish I had access to benchmarks on my cell phone! Hate that I was so close to that one and didn't make the hike in to see it! Will look into Waymarking- not something I have tackled yet.
  16. Can we log BLM markers? I found one while out photographing wild horses in remote Idaho country. Got home and found it was close in coords to NGS marker QA0696. So is there a place to log this blm marker find? Also found one the same weekend marked cadastral survey. Is there a place to log these? Thanks
  17. That is the problem, where is the destination folder located and how do I access it? I finally figured it out. I had to create a folder on my C: drive and didn't realize that as soon as I moved the file there it was loaded on the unit. Thanks for your help. Can you explain all of that in english so that I can get my Wherigo files from my desktop to my Oregon 500t? I did a R click on the Wherigo file, send to> the G: Oregon unit but it doesn't show up. I don't have a drag and drop because even when I plug my oregon in it doesn't show up on my desktop. Thanks for any assistance! You can help me go from this to this ! Got it! I was using firefox, so I opened IE, clicked save file then found the Wherigo file on the garmin oregon device and clicked save- simple as that!
