  1. I just dropped a package for you off at the post office. • 2 Original Canadian geocoins • 2 New Edition Canadian geocoins Great idea. I cannot think of a more worthy cause to donate to. Thank you for doing this. -MrG
  2. March 2006 marked the beginning of the 5th year we have been producing Canadian geocaching geocoins. Our original coin was the first commercially available geocoin, and still is a very popular geocoin with tens of thousands of coin movement logs recorded. Our original coins were trackable at our web site years before geocaching.com allowed custom trackable items. As such, our original coins cannot easily be migrated to the relatively new GC coin tracking system that many cachers desire. As a result, we are pleased to announce the immediate availability of a our New Edition Canadian geocaching geocoin, which is indeed, trackable on geocaching.com, complete with its own icon. Our new coins are: 100% solid brass, plated with nickel and polished to a satin finish 37mm (1.5" diameter) Weigh 30 grams Coloured on both sides Epoxy coated to protect the award quality finish. Trackable at geocaching.com Custom Canadian icon Coins are priced at $9.50 USD each, plus shipping. We only take orders through our web site and we only accept VISA and MasterCard as payment options. These coins are shipped from Canada, and as such shipping charges are those based on international rates should the destination be outside of Canada. For more information, or to place an order, please visit www.geocoins.ca Thank you for your continued interest in our Canadian geocoins.
  3. UPDATE: The official Canadian (GC trackable) geocoin is now nearly ready for release. We have had to make a few changes to our design which delayed the production a few weeks. We anticipate having photographs of the actual coins available early next week, which I will post here. We will begin taking orders shortly thereafter. I will post to a new thread as soon as our ordering system is in place. Thank you for your patience.
  4. DogbreathCanada is sending out unsolicited emails to cachers who have logged DNF's on mine and other caches recently and providing them with exact directions and solutions to the caches. I have received notes from recipients of these emails, complaining about DBCs actions. Here is one such log today... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...4b-e43b551edee2 In addition, DBC publicly announced he will send out solutions to my caches in local forums. After being contacted by several cachers and I confirmed DBC email broadcast, I sent the following email to him asking him to please not not send out spoilers to my caches. -- Copy of email sent to dogbreathcanada -- Mike, It has been brought to my attention that you are sending out unsolicited spoilers to my caches. In addition, you are publicly offering provision of said spoilers in public forums. At this time I am formally requesting you please do not send, mail, post any information about my cache locations, either solicited or unsolicited, by any means or in any form. Please govern yourself accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation. ----- His response was to start this thread.
  5. That is not true. When a coin of yours get logged you, as the owner, are emailed notification. In that email is the Direct link to the coin.
  6. A geocaching.com trackable Canadian geocoin is already in production and will be available very shortly. It has its own custom Canadian icon. An announcement will be made on www.geocoins.ca once the coins are shipping. We are not taking pre-orders.
  7. I would like to take this opportunity to clarify my position in discussions with BC Parks. I initiated contact with BC Parks in January of this year when I was informed of a policy already being discussed internally at BC Parks. I came into this knowledge partly through these very forums. As a geocacher in BC, I was concerned as to any restrictive regulations being implemented that would affect the activity as it has recently done so in Ontario and Parks Canada. Anyone could have picked up the phone as well as I and asked to talk to BC Parks. Subsequently, I was jointly invited to attend a preliminary, introductory meeting with BCGA and BC Parks. In my role as a cache reviewer I have knowledge as to the practicality of implementing any regulation or policy from an administrative aspect of listing caches on geocaching.com. It was only in this capacity that my opinions as a volunteer representative of geocaching.com and Groundspeak were made. My interest in the talks as a BC geocacher are just that - as a participant in the activity that may be impacted by any policy. My interest in the talks as a reviewer are from the technical and practical aspect of implementing any additional hurdles and burden to the review process, such as it exists. (i.e. cache types, availability of park boundary maps, conflict with existing general listing guidelines etc.) At no time did I in anyway represent geocaching.com or Groundspeak in proposing any policy whatsoever. Anyone that claims the contrary is misinformed. If Groundspeak has any interest in specific policy, those statements will come from Groundspeak, not from the reviewer team. Reiterating, I never made any suggestions to BC Parks regarding actual policy from a volunteer representative of Groundspeak. I hope this clarifies the situation, my position as a BC geocacher, my position as a volunteer reviewer, and my position in discussions with BC Parks, to which, just like you, are welcome to participate in. I encourage anyone that has any issues to step up to the plate and put forth some effort and time and suggestions to mutually work with BC Parks to come up with a policy that fulfills the mandate of BC Parks and those of the geocaching community.
  8. I have created a cache listing checklist, if anyone is interested. www.geocoins.ca/ptcm.php Print it out, take it along with you. Links to view each print friendly cache page, with decrypted hints and logs, for non-paperless cachers
  9. Yea, what he said. :-) The links should take you to the 2 versions of the pages.
  10. I have created a cache listing checklist, if anyone is interested. www.geocoins.ca/bcm.php Print it out, take it along with you. Select Print Friendly links to view each cache page, with decrypted hints and logs, for non-paperless cachers Select Normal Links to reach each cache page for easy logging.
  11. We tried this one on the way to the Wenatchee CM in April, with the Wet Coast Explorers and Travis. Not a chance I was trying to climb the creosote encrusted bastille in my best border crossin' button fly's. A few weeks a go I had the pleasure to discuss this cache with LittleBlue in person and as a result, realized we had made the right choice to abort when we did. Right Wing Wacko -- A 20 foot ladder on the roof racks would make you a lot of friends on this cache. It is beautiful spot. Despite we could not access the actual cache, geocaching got us all to this remarkable piece of local history. After all, that is why we geocache, is it not.
  12. I have created a cache listing checklist, if anyone is interested. www.geomatics.ca/wcm/wcm.php Print it out, take it along with you. Select Print Friendly links to view each cache page, with decrypted hints and logs, for non-paperless cachers Select Normal Links to reach each cache page for easy logging.
  13. I have modified my cache list page to now link to the actual cache page (rather than the print friendly version). This will make logging a whole lot easier... at least for me. http://www.geomatics.ca/TCCM_list.htm
  14. Not sure if anyone needs this, but I have a html list of all the caches, links to the printer friendly, hint decrypted cache pages. Very handy if you want to print out the cache pages. A couple of tweeks after the event and the links will go to the real pages to enable easy logging. Very handy to have copy en route too. http://www.geomatics.ca/TCCM_list.htm
  15. Your coin looks absolutely gorgeous. You have done a fantastic job on this and the way the local cachers have come together on this is something I am envious of. You should all be very proud, and you will all soon have THE best geocoin out there. If I may suggest a couple of things though.. If the map of Florida was replaced with a map of Canada, the GC logo was replaced with a Maple Leaf, the pic of some unknown flat topped hill was replaced with a Tim Horton Dougnut, now you 'Merkins would have very serious coin. :-) Best of luck, mark me down for 5 (even without my expert advice)
  16. I have previously created a GPX file of all the caches that are: Less than or equal to 2.5 D/T Are Traditional or Virtual cache types only Follow I-5 from the Canadian border to Portland Fall within 1.0 kilometre range of I-5 Anyone is welcome to use it: www.geomatics.ca/pcm/I-5.gpx.zip In addition, I have a cache list page complete with links to the printer friendly cache pages for the Cache Machine itself, if anyone wants it: www.geomatics.ca/pcm/pcm_list.zip
  17. For the record, I asked Travis for permission to use his cache machine concept before I created the BCM Cache Event. I did not want to start and international incident, but after all, you are invading us at the end of March. :-) Consider it a warm up for the biggy in Vancouver, minus the rubber glove treatment at Canada Customs an the way north. I created it as an Event as there is quite a few Vancouver cachers that have been wanting to cache in Bellingham (only 10 minutes from the border) for sometime. Also, as Travis has advised, his schedule for a CM in Bellingham is 2 years away. I think there may be a few more caches to add to that route between now and then. Hope you all can make it to Bellingham on February 28th.
  18. The purchaser of any Canadian Geocoin controls if coins can be logged or not on the web site. This particular coin has not been activated by the coin owner.
  19. Lucy... We would be honoured to have all members of Washington State Geocaching Assoc. join us. As I recall after several pints of beer Saturday night, you volunteered to sign on as our Association Secretary, did you not? :-)
  20. January 1, 2004 British Columbia Geocaching Association - Web Site Launch We are pleased to announce the launch of a new valuable resource for locating and sharing information relating to geocaching within British Columbia. The site includes many features that allow members to contribute content to the site. These include, News, file downloads including software and GPS waypoint files, Web Links, Newest Caches, Coming Events, just to name a few. In addition, there are discussion forums for members which will help BC cachers connect with other BC cachers for the specific purpose of discussing geocaching, group caching, events, cool caches, etc. It is our hope that BC cachers do take advantage of these features and thus allow the site content to grow to meet the needs of the community. This site would not have been possible without the efforts of the following local BC cachers and their contributions in the design, creation, implementation and testing of the site: MarinerBC. MrGigabyte, MrPeabody, Seneca, and The Wet Coast Explorers. For more information, please visit http://www.bcgeocaching.com
  21. As you are based in Chilliwack, BC, I assume you are referring to this cache. GCM refers to Geodetic Control Monument and in BC, are managed by the Base Mapping and Geomatic Services Branch. Hey Donna, so they did teach you something at UNB after all! :-)
  22. quote:...I spent about 3+ hours yesterday finding a cache for 1 find... Hey RobertM... That is my cache you are talking abooot! Are sure you entered the latitude as North 49 and not South 49 by mistake? Remember, you do live on the top side of the world now. :-)

This should do it... UTM GRID ZONES
  24. Mary, why not make it a Micro? I am just about to head out the door to look for #6 in your False Creek Micro Series down at Science World. Your Micros are all hidden in brilliant locations in an area of Vancouver that is the one, if not the, most densely populated urban settings in the North America. They all involve a lot of clever searching and covert approaches to remain undetected. You could have 100 caches in this compact 2 km square area and they would all be completely different and unique. Not sure if the density issue was a concern to the approver, but they must recognize that False Creek is a unique area unlike any other. I think I know the exact spot you are thinking of for the Virtual. Please make it a Micro and we'll be all over it.
  25. The GPS system was designed such that it is NOT effected by weather. There is a "rain window" about 1.5Ghz and that is one of the reasons GPS is there. There is almost no attenuation even in the heaviest downpour. (Just a db or two). On the other hand, just a few millimeters of standing water will absorb/reflect 1.5Ghz waves.
