  1. This is one of those "should I email Jeremy" directly or not problems. In the interest of bring prompt attention to the matter, I am taking the risk of posting it here. It would appear that anyone could easily alter their profile information to appear to be someone they are not, as have done with this post. Anyone reading this (with the exception of Jeremy) would think I am indeed the poster whose moniker appears to the left.
  2. I take it then that this would not be a good day to announce a little coiny thing I been working on.

  5. I'm partial to leaving geocoins. Now if could only remember where I got them. [This message was edited by MrGigabyte on March 08, 2002 at 10:58 AM.]
  6. Eric, If you need a beta tester for the MacGPS / MapSource / PCX5 side of things, you know where to find me. Thanks for all the effort you have already put forth on GeoBuddy. It is most appreciated.
  7. quote:For Geocaching: Once you get close, position your gps so the north on your unit matches with the north on your compass. I might add to Jeremy's comment that you should also make sure you set your GPSr heading setting to Magnetic unless you are compensating for declination on the compass itself. Locally, this difference between TN and MN is 20 degrees east. Here is my technique... I always switch my eTrex to Magnetic prior to a hunt and always carry a magnetic compass. This makes it very easy to confirm if the displayed pointer on the navigation screen is correct or not as I stop and go while closing in on the target. The distance displayed should be correct as well as the direction the pointer on the navigation page is displaying. But since I am not moving or have turned around, I cannot determine where north is. So I use the distance it indicates PLUS the bearing it indicates. I take that bearing and set my magnetic compass to that bearing. This never fails. A similar handy technique is to set the two display fields on the navigation page of an eTrex to "Heading" and "Bearing". This tells me numerically, which direction I am walking and at the same time the direction to the cache. Continually comparing the displayed heading with my magnetic compass confirms that the navigation pointer (and the displayed bearing) are correct.

    Canadian Geocoins?

We have now sold over 100 coins. All but 13 are going to cachers in the US. We were overwhelmed with the response considering they were only ever discussed here and in Clayjar's chatroom. We have just been advised by the mint that the proof coins will available Monday, March 11. I have already advised them to ramp up for full production. I will take some photos of them next a loonie and toonie so that one will get a sense of size. I may post the photo here or try to work it into the geocoins.ca web site itself. Regarding pre-ordering specific coin ranges of numbers. If you really want them, order now. I cannot pull odd coins out for you unless you commit to an order. Certain cachers who had previously expressed interest in certain numbers have been emailed directly. If we don't get a response soon, those coins will be gone. I'm doing my best here to accomodate these requests, but there is a point where you have to make a commitment if you want specific coins. 10. I may be mistaken, but as far as I can tell, the "Charter Member" versus "Geocacher" tag, only appears in these very forums. I do not see it appearing anywhere in the actual cache logs. Considering only a very small percentage of cacher's read these forums, who cares if it is there or not. Now, If there was some indication next to the cachers name in the actual cache logs, then it may be much more of an issue to some people, myself included.

  12. TJ, Your site looks great. Hope you can stir up some interest in caching out your way. I was wodering you would would mind adding a link to the canadian Geocoins web site on your links page? Seems appropriate. www.geocoins.ca
  13. Seems that nested Quotes do not work

' Ahhh it all makes sense now. BTW: It appears my city got deleted from my profile during the migration. Is that a bug or a feature?
  15. How come when you hit the "Post Reply" button, the form that is presented includes a field called "Subject"? I would think that this should only appear if you are starting a new thread, not replying to an existing thread.
