  1. Having a good design ready to go to the mint is important. It saves the coin companies alot of effort and your time waiting. I've dealt with two of the major companies without any problems. They made it easy and I got exactly what I designed. However, if you are doing a geocoin for the group, you have to deal with everyone's opinions and deciding on a final design. That can be the most work of all. Getting everybody to pay was easy with PayPal. Oh yeah, and distributing them all after they are done. That was alot of fun too. For the most part, the money is what keeps some people from doing their own personal coins. It's really not that expensive for 100 coins, unless you just don't have the money. That's your biggest decision of all. Everything else is pretty easy if you have a good design.
  2. I have a few in gold and a few in silver. One of the silver coins is marked "Free die side with minimum order of 100 coins" or something like that, instead of the "1 Oakbucks". If you ordered 100 personal coins, the free die side meant you only had to pay for one die, since 2 are needed to make a coin, one for each side.
  3. I started by making my own wooden nickels and trading them. I have about 300 geocacher wooden nickels from around the world. Then I had my own personal non-trackable coin made and traded them/left them in caches. I have about 100 coins from other geocachers, about half are non-trackable. I really like geocoins that do something. The Pocket Decoder. The Nocturnal. The Planisphere. I like coins with no color. Crake Productions made some really nice coins with no color. Alot of the Benchmark Club coins had little or no color. Anything related to space or satellites. Now about all I collect are the two monthly clubs that send a new geocoin every month.
  4. You have to release your trackables with the attitude that nobody may ever see them again except the idiot who doesn't play fair and keeps them. The happiness comes from the surprise over the trackables you release that do travel far and well, and the joy it brings to those who find them and do play fairly. My first signature line below says it all.
  5. "Lady and gentlemen, start your engines!!!!!!!!!!" Now I'm ready for racing season.
  6. Alright then, I am now registered as "hotwheels". So let's get some more NASCAR fans in the action here. No reason why we couldn't have 20 - 25 teams signed-up by the Daytona 500. Right now we have 6. It only costs one geocoin to enter. Let's go race fans! If I remember correctly, qualifying doesn't count for the Daytona 500 because of their wacky qualifying rules. Just an FYI for any newbies to the league.
  7. I'll be signing-up as soon as I can come up with a new name for my team. I don't care for any one particular racer anymore, I just like to watch a good race. Thanks for the invite again, rickctroop13.
  8. Thanks for the cointest, JediCacher. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and have an equally Happy New Year!
  9. Yes - Well Done Kensay! That's an impressive score. All I want for Christmas is a new crystal ball. I can't pick a winner for crap.
  10. Thanks for the league this year, rickctroop13. Keep me in mind again for next year. Looks like Brad K has the upper-hand for this weekend and should take the trophy, but the same thing that happened to JJ last weekend could happen to Brad this weekend and JJ could steal it back. That's what makes racing fun. Just like driving your own car, you never know when something is going to go wrong. See ya in February!
  11. Logging a trackable without actually seeing it is called "virtual logging" and is frowned upon by "the powers that be". The tracking code for any trackable should never be posted anywhere online. The end result may be that the trackable is removed from the system completely. Sorry.
  12. Try these webpages.............. www.oakcodes.com or www.oakcodes.com/unnum.html
  13. I was able to retrieve an activaton code from that website just the other day with no problems. And I was able to get to that webpage again now just to see if it was working for me. No problems here. Check your browser settings if you are using Internet Explorer, it tends to act a little strange sometimes. Or try another browser like Google Chrome. Good luck with your coin and its travels.
  14. Congrats to Gatoulis !!!!!! And thanks to NOSNOW for a nice little cointest to break the craziness of my life.
  15. Think my original guess of 229 is a little high, so let's try something a little lower. I like 366 - 229 = 137, but 137 is already taken. So here's some more math............... 3 + 6 + 6 = 15 2 + 2 + 9 = 13 13 x 15 = 195 So my second guess is 195. Enough math class for now.
  16. This was a leap day event, right? I'll go with 229. Sounds appropriate.
  17. Locked and loaded. Let's go racing, boys! Should get to a post office today and send my coin.
  18. Yep, there's still a few of us wooden nickelers lurking around here. I use the method discussed by the Frosties above. Self-inking stampers are available from several places on the net, and I made a jig to hold the nickel while I stamp it. Actually my jig is recessed at two levels: the nickel in the bottom cut-out, the stamper fits in the top cut-out, so it stays centered on the nickel. Always get my nickels from wooden-nickel.com. Don't forget to check-out the wooden nickel trading thread in the forums and join in. I'm always ready for a good trade.
  19. I'm in!!! WAHOO!!! Thanks for the invite, rickctroop13.
  20. Gee, I didn't miss the sign-up for this year's racing season, did I? Please let's do it again this year. I like giving away my geocoins
  21. Yes, I'll second that! Nice job CrazyCannuk!!! It was a great last race to watch on TV. I was pulling for Edwards, but 5 wins in 10 Chase races is impressive. Well I've got a nice geocoin prize ready to send. I just need an address.
  22. Well that's pretty lame too............ Closing the thread before the story is over? Three whacks with a wet Flying Spaghetti Monster geocoin noodle for you!!! So what's the rest of the story?
  23. That's a very nice nickel by The Three Harrells. But what's really weird.............. I had never seen the name Powhatan before today, and it was an answer in the crossword puzzle in today's newspaper that I just did an hour ago. The clue was "Pocahontas's father". Now I see it again on a wooden nickel. I hate when that happens. Makes me want to believe in ESP and crap like that. Sending e-mail for trade now.
