  1. I suggest simplicity to be most useful as a subjective rating: RED, YELLOW, GREEN RED=didn't like it YELLOW= it was O.K. GREEN=loved it Results could be shown on a spectrum or just a quantity of each received.
  2. While we are at it, why not include a statistic for each time the cache data is pulled by a PQ?
  3. You are still missing the point - people are upset because they had an expectation that something would continue to be provided. They don't feel as though they received proper warning of the change. It is good customer service that is the primary complaint.
  4. I found a handful of virts just up the river from D.C. in Maryland last June. There are a lot of virts there because of all the NPS land. Anyhow, I made sure that I read the cache pages before I left because I prefer not to use a Palm these days. So I jotted down notes down on a piece of paper and brought that along and had a lot of fun finding a handful of cool virts. Yup. A PDA is a nice back up if you're doing a trip where you're using the subway, or rollerblading and need lots of info in a small package and don't have time to do too much research. But pretty much ever since then we've gone with our laptop and GSAK and have never had problems. That's very true and I know where you are coming from. However, I've gotten to the point where I always do research and then target specific caches. I'm wondering if you saw my edit. In that case, I'm amazed that we got the info on our PDA, it was so long ago when we were just figuring out our premium member benefits, and the whole trip was last minute and unplanned. Although, for the most part, I really just go by GSAK and laptop. Our caching and traveling is probably different than other people. I have a somewhat non-caching husband (who also likes to be in charge/control), so I have to be very delicate about how I go about caching with him on trips. Also, we tend to jump all over the place while on a trip, so I may not know specifically where we'll be. So I need to do lots of broad PQ's and save them in my laptop. Then if we happen to be right next to a cache, and I have all the info in my laptop, my husband may be amenable enough to go to it. That's one perk of being sick, my husband feels sorry for me and plans lots of caching when we go on trips. My caching year before this one was my biggest, because of all the caching we did on trips (though very little locally), but since I've been sicker and have not been traveling, this year has been one of my lowest. My wife doesn't like caching unless the caches are really fun. I didn't take this in account enough when I first started caching so now she almost never comes with me. Sorry to hear that you are sick. I'm sorry to hear that about your wife. My husband and I did everything together, until caching. For different reasons, caching never stuck with him. But he does enjoy caches that take him on an adventure or are out on a hike, etc. He and our son went backpacking up to Lake Valhalla in the Cascades a weekend or two ago, and I provided him with the info for the caches up there and they did the two nearby them. So it's not totally a lost cause! And thanks for the condolences. I've been sick for over 2 1/2 years now, so it's just life. It just sucks when it gets in the way of doing things with the family, and caching. But I remain confident that I'm part of God's plan, so I keep on going! I'm still working on her. I'm not giving up yet! I'm pretty darn stubborn. I agree that whatever happens to us is part of a greater plan. That plan called for me to tear the ACL in my right knee two weeks ago. So I won't be doing any hiking and caching for awhile. What does this have to do with logging a virtual?
  5. With smaller caches, I think it will gravitate toward more sig items... for example - I think pathtags can fit in a micro. That leaves those that like to see great places and swap their sig item for another.
  6. I was thinking about putting on the porch of a restaurant here..... is that commercial? It will draw people intentionally or unintentionally to that store to buy goods and services.
  7. It sounds like this process (drop it where you found it and then pick it up again) would help resolve the milage issue. Is that correct?
  8. I only see answers on "I think" and I thought", but no definitive answer. I looked around on the site for awhile and couldn't find the answer either. Do you think maybe we can get the official answer... and maybe it can be placed on the bookmark page so we can avoid repeating this thread in the future?
  9. It's about being a good neighbor. Do you HAVE to let them know.... probably not.... but maybe it would be helpful to that person jointly owning that fence with you.
  10. Agree - I have also found a need for these features.
  11. I experienced the same thing. Allergic when I used to live in MI, but moved out to CA and nothing... in fact, now that I moved back to the mid-west I don't have any problems with the stuff! It appears to be a cure. Try moving.
  12. Shouldn't this be in the Geocoin Discussions forum?
  13. I found the 15mi too restrictive, but I can't very well put a number on what is appropriate either. I think the suggestion that it be linked to the number of caches "in that view" is best. That means 5mi might be too close in some places and 50mi in others.
  14. I am confused... don't these violate the non-commercial nature rule?
  15. I think that is the inverse-square-muggle law you are referring to. It states that when twice as many muggles are present you are half as likely to have the cache stay put. I think the researcher got a Nobel prize for that one!
  16. Concur. The 15mi seems a bit too restrictive. Even a little farther out would be reasonable.
  17. It is a little different to not have them automatically display, but I like this new feature. Once displayed, you can move it to any location on your screen (like below the map). What I miss is the short description that I used to get at the top of the scree when I select one.
  18. I don't see why there is anything wrong with marking a DNF for the day and coming back more prepared. And when you log that DNF (which I know you will) your log will help others know that they may need to plan ahead.
  19. I've seen this kind of cache! You were supposed to chisel your entry into a stone tablet (usually above ground in plain sight).
  20. ...documenting that I read this thread and enjoyed it.
  21. I have seen a few signature smashed coins out there. How is this done? Is there a reasonably priced vendor for my own smasher? wWould love to know, thanks!
  22. Same here. It changed one day and I thought I had accidently bumped the setting.
  23. Agree - things like, "do you read the description/log/hint prior to caching" would be better served as a poll.
  24. Seems that the only response you get is that you should use third party software (GSAK) and do the sorting and searching offline. The search functions are not nearly as robust as they should be.
