  1. Edit: Sorry @Keystone that I offended you. Sorry @RocTheCacheBox and @TeamRabbitRun that I upset you. Sorry to everybody else that got upset at what I said and thanks to those with the kind words. Now let's get back to geocaching
  2. @Keystone, I sent you a PM, basically explaining to you that I wasn't looking for a Lackey but more like a database administrator that could take 5 minutes and save me hours. You didn't write me back and actually the message has somehow been deleted. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you don't know how software works, which is fine of course, however just to be clear if your intent was to just give me a hard time then you should really use your personal account. The last thing I wanted to tell you is that while you take issue to 200 trackables, know that there is no limit and if anything I just enjoyed buying trackables and by that I was also supporting geocaching so you really shouldn't hold it against me.
  3. Since you must ask, my correspondences where with "Freddie, Geocaching Community Coordinator", email address contact@geocaching.com, and in accordance with the statement "Reply above this line or click the link below to add a note to this request". Please tell me the correct person to contact TeamRabbitRun, I'd appreciate it for next time.
  4. I know how to manually fix the problem with the trackables but the problem was that I had nearly 200 of them and in the end I did manually delete each log from each trackable, which took me a long time. That whole point is that one time I asked for help and I didn't get any help and that's why I canceled my membership. What I said about souvenirs is an exaggeration, it means for what they are getting paid they can do a lot more. My case is just another example, when you delete a trip to a geocache, the trackable logs that went along with that should also be deleted, that's common sense; however it would actually require someone to get off their butt and put in some real work for a week to do it. No matter how many years go by, they don't care enough to put in the effort. You guys can say whatever you want, I'm glad I canceled my membership and I'm sticking to my opinion!
  5. I didn't mind paying for geocaching premium to support further development, because after all I love geocaching. The problem arose when 1 time I asked for support and I was getting an automated answer that didn't even in the slightest address my problem. I write back one more time, asking for help and stating that if I get another automated answer I will cancel my premium membership. Sure enough I get another automated answer, nobody ever actually helped me with my problem, so I immediately canceled my premium membership. Let's be real, adding your souvenirs takes one person at most 1 day to do, you don't do anything else, so what the heck do you get paid for with premium membership? At the very least (!) you could maybe look at the support tickets and give some real answers? It's fine to ignore non-paid accounts, fine, ignore paid accounts that submit one support ticket per week, fine, but once in a life-time paid account asking for help and you can't provide it? I'm sorry but that's asking for money without doing any work for it. This is the reason why I canceled - the customer has spoken. You ask, what can you do better, this is it. The original problem was that I accidentally logged 2 geocaches in the wrong order and since I "visited" trackables, it screwed up the miles on them. Even though I was able to fix the logging issue, the trackables were still screwed up, this is why I contacted them for help about it.
  6. haha, souvenirs, who needs them. seeing the eclipse was amazing for sure. the darkest spot in the sky was actually where the sun was. we ended up in the woods in the middle of nowhere in SC and while there was increasing could cover we got very lucky and had a completely unobstructed view.
  7. GC, you "have" to do a souvenir for the total eclipse path and perhaps another one for anyone who finds a cache on Monday. You did leap day which is way more often than a solar eclipse i'll be sad if you don't do the souvenir for the totality path.
  8. Hi. I decided to try the geocaching intro app on Android. It says: "This app won't run unless you update Google Play services." So I say Ok and tap update. Another screen opens with Google Play services and I tap update. Oh what's this? Google Play services needs access to additional permissions (marked as NEW): Among many things, it says: Your messages NEW: Read your text messages (SMS or MMS), receive text messages (MMS), receive text messages (SMS), send SMS messages. It asks me to accept, but there is no way. I realize that privacy is already minimized by even owning a smart phone but even so, the line needs to be drawn. Many of you probably have given these permissions, and that's your deal. My question is what can the people like myself do to use the geocaching app who will not permit another 3rd party app (Google Play services in this case) to read/scan my text messages? Is there an alternative method, I mean there gotta be, right?
  9. Hi, I would like to place a puzzle cache that requires the cacher to find multi-caches first. All caches will be part of a series and placed in the same area. Each multi-cache final stage will provide a piece of the puzzle. One such example I found is this: http://coord.info/GC4Q42B I think this is OK but I want to check first to make sure before I begin preparing things.
  10. Look in the aquarium section at walmart. They have these translucent plastic gems that look pretty cool and very cheap.
  11. Well said. Interestingly this is what it said on wikipedia and I'm not sure if it is true: An independent accounting of the early history documents several controversial actions taken by Irish and Grounded, Inc., a predecessor to Groundspeak, to increase "commercialization and monopolistic control over the hobby".
  12. I like the idea of the trackable cache. To geocaching.com it will be nothing other than a trackable but for the rest of us it will be a little container with a secret code, which you place into other caches. One thing I find disappointing is who is this geocaching guy that tells us what we can and cannot do? What made him/her such an authority in all this? I guess they started the website with the most users and at some point I will look for what else is out there...
  13. I really like the idea of the traveling cache. I would like to see this added to the geocaching site as its own type of cache. Question: Who will be responsible for the cache once it has traveled away from the creator? Answer: The traveling cache will always be placed inside an existing host cache and will be considered a piece of swag or travel tag with swag attached. The owner of the host cache is responsible for it and the contents. The traveling cache will work much like a trackable in its own right. It has a secret code to ensure people have physical access in order to modify its location, and yes just like a trackable the traveling cache is dropped off and retrieved from permanent caches. Question: How do trackables work with the traveling cache? Answer: When you find a permanent cache you can log your trackables as usual. If this cache also contains a traveling cache, you may log your trackables with it as well. The mileage added will be based on the host cache. If the traveling cache is not currently inside a host cache, you will not be able to log trackables to it (due to unknown locations). The traveling cache may have trackables dropped inside of it. If the traveling cache is moved to another cache, the same mileage is added to the trackables based on the new host cache, upon dropping off the travel cache. ------- So these are just some of the main points and I can go into a lot more detail. Can someone explain to me what the problems are with this? I think this would be a very fun type of cache. The geocaching people should be able to program all of this in a few days, I mean seriously. The geocaching people can sell specific traveling cache codes or even the entire container for it and they can make more money on it too. Let me know what issues you see with this and be prepared that someone will think of a solution for it.
  14. In the beginning I loved the idea of TBs, purchased a bunch and set them free. Nearly all of them were lost really fast and this was a huge disappointment to me. Now I just carry all my TBs along and keep them around. I do like the idea of the avatar and I think that's what I'm going to do is make laminated copies of them and drop off the copies but keep the originals. After they get lost I'll create new copies. I realize this will be like a little bit of cheating due to the additional miles but I don't see any other option. "Every" teenager is downloading the app on their phone to find caches but they don't even log them. I bet that's where most of the TBs disappear to.
  15. I want to create a traveling cache but the official coordinates will remain static. One of the rules will be not to log any trackables because the trackable will receive the mileage to the static coordinates without actually being there. You know someone is going to do it anyways so here is my question. I know I can delete logs from others from my cache, but can I delete their trackable visits from my cache as well, or how can I go about this?
  16. I know that Garmin Communicator Plugin does not really work under Google Chrome and I'm fine with that. So I use Internet Explorer. This has been working just fine until recently. I did not make any changes but now it's saying this: Garmin Communicator Plugin NOT detected. So I click on "Download and Install now". Then Garmin tells me that I already have it and also correctly lists my GPS. You have Communicator Plugin. Up to Date, Version 4.2.0.0 I'm running Internet Explorer version 11. It worked before, so why doesn't it work anymore and/or what can I do to fix it?
  17. alright cool! it's definitely my own tb and i wouldn't be too upset if it got lost.
  18. When I go to this site: http://www.geocaching.com/track/ I see about 20 links that I'm going to look through. Then I scroll down and see some input boxes and below that a log. It's not very intuitive. I made this image-tutorial because someone can very quickly get to where they want, not sure if anybody will use it though.
  19. Thanks for that tip, I'm used to being able to upload images to a forum.
  20. Just curious, is it legitimate to send a tb somewhere by mail or does a fellow geocacher physically have to transport it there?
  21. Here is a quick run-through on activating a trackable on geocaching.com ..wait, how do I upload the image?
