  1. I hadn't been geocaching very much and had not used GSAK 8. Boy, was I surprised at how much better it is with the Geocaching.com API's. I like the fact that my pocket queries are easier to get on my computer and that I can now easily check the status of all of the geocaches in my database. If you haven't upgraded yet, you are missing out. I do wish that the upgrade was a little less. I think the upgrade should have been about $10 across the board. But, other than that, it is great(er). *disclaimer: I have no vested interest in GSAK, I don't work for Clyde, I was not paid for this endorsement, and I do not mean for this post to seem like an advertisement for GSAK. 2. I want to keep a separate GSAK profile for my wife and I. I created the two directories. But, I am not sure how to force GSAK to start up with the correct application data. GSAK says to do the following: gsak.exe "adpath: c:\testing" I replaced the c:\testing with the directories that I created. But, the desktop shortcut in Windows 7 has a fit. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, <I am running Windows 7 Professional & GSAK 8>
  3. A few years ago I was Jeeping in Truckhaven, now known as Truckhaven SVRA, and one of our club members said over the radio that we were stopping to find a geocache on a precarious ledge. I had just bought a new Garmin Etrex Legend (old blue) and thought that it would be an interesting thing to do. I loaded the coordinates and got close. One of the kids in our group found it. I never did log that one. That friend now has 10 finds under his belt and I have 920! I have slowed down as of late. But, I still like geocaching and I am looking forward to finding my 1,000th find.
  4. When I try to log-in from geocaching.com nothing happens and I get no errors. But, from https://www.geocaching.com/login/default.aspx?RESETCOMPLETE=Y&redir=http%3a%2f%2fwww.geocaching.com%2faccount%2fdefault.aspx I am able to login.
  5. This post may have to be moved. But, I can't log-in to the Geocaching.com website. I obviously don't have any issues with the forums boards. I tried to get in with Firefox and IE with no luck. Everything was fine for me before the update. Anybody else having this issue?
  6. +1 _____________ Try downloading it again. It seems that the file is corrupt. I download the pocket query in zip format to my computer and open it up, then I drag the namexxx.gpx file to the garmin/gpx folder on my 450. Everything you need to know about geocaching with the 450 can be found here: http://garminoregon.....com/Geocaching
  7. Life does go on and the world really doesn't skip a beat when one, or hundreds die. Grief is just grief and never really goes away. It just becomes more bearable with time. I wish I could be the FTF for GC2RTF8 and be there for the recovery of Japan. I think it is amazing that the Japanese people are so resilient. But, their nuclear disaster is an ongoing nightmare that I don't even want to hear about anymore because it is soo depressing. As for the Tsunami's effects on Geocaches in Japan, all of the old ones placed before the 9.0 earthquake are 8 ft closer to the United States and I am sure that many are buried in the rubble.
  8. I still think it is pretty hard to beat the 450. It is much more rugged than any of the smart phones out there. If you were never completely sold on the interface of the 450, I don't think that you will like the 62 because of the buttons. It would be nice if they could make a rugged smart phone made to military specs. :-)
  9. I almost didn't read this post because I thought that the thread had something to do with broadcasting my position to the people who are always following me and harassing me on these forums . Seriously, I read both of the links and sent a letter to one of the senators listed.
  10. I used to take my laptop with me all the time when I went geocaching. Now, I just take my Android LG Ally. Sometimes I end up in areas where I was wasn't expecting to end up. My Oregon 450 seems naked without any geocaches on it's map. So, I'll run a pocket query for the area, download it, and unzip it to my Oregon's SD card. Then, I am in business. I like using the c:geo app and the Groundspeak app. But, I don't like to run down the battery on my phone. Plus, my Oregon is a lot less fragile than my phone.
  11. Congratulations on your purchase and you got a great deal! Don't forget to visit this site for free maps for your Oregon: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/state/all
  12. I'm surprised that no one chimed in with the my Garmin 60, 62, or etrex screen is brighter than any Oregon. You can not beat the resolution of the Oregon screens and the ease of a touchscreen menu. I've used the Oregon 200, 300, 450, and Dakota 10 and I have not had any issues with the screens. As someone has already mentioned, if you can't read the screen in direct sunlight, tip the unit until you do see the screen. I use my GPS's mostly in the desert and I don't have any complaints about the Oregon. Well, it would be nice if the batteries lasted 24 hours. Geez, nobody is ever happy around here. :-)
  13. Darn, I was planning on hitting up this trail in April.
  14. If only there was some sort of forum-assigned authority figure who could monitor threads and keep them on topic... Oh yeah, now I remember why I don't visit the forums, the people suck. I'd say something like this too. But, I might be ................ again.
  15. I guess I need to listen to more country music tonight.
  16. This is the email that was sent: ***************************************************************************** Sent Today, 10:06 AM Hi Jeepdelfuego I have removed your <censored> thread, after receiving a complaint. It is a little to commercial and is advertising for the <censored> site. The purpose of the contest is to push for more people to visit their site which competes directly with Groundspeak. Thank you BlueRajah Moderator Blue Rajah ----- May the forks be with you. ----- (visit link) ****************************************************************************** My disclaimer: I don't work or own stock in the GPS manufacturer which makes my touchscreen handheld GPS.
  17. One of my threads was deleted today by BlueRajah because it mentioned a competing site. Come on! This is the United States not Libya. I mentioned that a competing site is having a daily drawing for a certain GPS accessory, which communicates with a certain manufacturer's GPS units, if they hide an object and then list its location by its coordinates on their website. I am soo upset that I am seriously thinking of dropping Geocaching as a hobby!
  18. By get to you mean for free????? Why not? There would be a lot more TB's in circulation if we were able to put a tracking number on a item we want to send traveling. The cost of a TB is way over inflated. They should be .99 plus shipping. Not $4.25 plus shipping! Let's talk about the record/cd music industry. They now allow us to buy songs for .99 when we download them. So, why can't Groundspeak allow us to buy a tracking number without the expensive tags. I am sure that many of us could etch these numbers on a myriad of items that we could send traveling around the world.
  19. Very cool information. Thanks for taking the time to conduct these tests.
  20. I think they are a waste of my time. Most of the ones I have found are lame. I never go out of my way to find them.
  21. I would never consider going back to a Legend Cx after using a Dakota or an Oregon. You just need some time getting used to it. Start here to find out everything you need to know about geocaching with it: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Geocaching (The Oregon x00's and the Dakotas work the same way)
