  1. me Too! I have had some minor issues with certain caches. Some simply will not take a GO-TO, and others hang the unit when attempting to display the cache description. If we could figure out what causes this, we could filter those things out. This is an annoyance. I alway carry spare rechargeables anyway, so ither than the inconveniance of having to actually swap them.... I beleive this is because you (and most others) have both TOPO and CN active at the same time. The TOPO shading makes the screen appear darker. When I turn off TOPO and only show CN, the screen looks every bit as bright as my 60C. Ditto.
  2. Don't buy any version of CN if you ever want to use it on another GPS receiver (without spending more money). Instead: 1) Buy the latest version of Metroguide (v.8 ??) on eBay for less than retail (or buy it retail if you must). Install it. 2) Download MetroWizzz (free) or purchase MetroGold ($6.00US ) from www.geodude.nl 3) Apply MetroWizzz/Gold to add turn-by-turn routing functionality to Metroguide, and upload to your 60Cx and as many other GPS receivers as you want without worrying about unlock codes, because Garmin doesn't require you to jump through their onerous and expensive unlocking hoops to use MetroGuide on more than one unit. 4) Enjoy a nice dinner on the money you just saved. Not true! If you get the SD Card Version of the CN maps, you can move it from GPS to GPS without issue. You can only use it in one at a time, but at least when you upgrade, you can take it with you.
  3. Also, as was explained to me the GPX file provision violates groundspeaks TOS. The easiest way around this is to have participants post a Book Mark list of the caches they are using to claim the challenge. To verify the cache owner could then use the option to convert a book mark list to a GPX
  4. To delete a bookmark list, first you have to delete all of the entries. On the bookmark page, you can either select each one individually (by clicking in the leftmost check-box next to each entry), or scroll down to the bottom of the page and slick on these three options: Check All Active, Check All Disabled, Check All Archived. Once all the entries have been selected, click the "Bulk Delete" option. It will then list all of the entries that are about to be deleted. Click the "Click to confirm" button. Once all the entries are gone, go back to your list of bookmarks. You will see that the list you've been editing has zero entries. Click the "Edit" link for that bookmark list (the fifth column in the table). On the page that pops up, click the "Archive listing" button. Of course, once one has deleted everything off the bookmark list, there is no reason to actually delete the list it self. Simply rename it and add your new caches to it.
  5. Since your laptop does not have a serial port you will need to add one. There are a number of ways to do this. The easiest is the one you mentioned... get an adapter 1. Get a Serial to USB Adapter 2. Get a Serial Port PCMCIA (PCCARD) Go with option 1, it will cost you about $30 to $40. The PCCARD would be a lot more.
  6. Washington State Geocaching Association The Washington State Geocaching Association was founded on September 8, 2002. A group of interested geocachers met to discuss the formation of a statewide organization, in part because of a common goal to preserve Geocaching in state parks. There had been some indidents involving some state parks, and at the time we feared a complete ban on caches in State Parks was at hand. We began negotiations with them, and got the ban "postponed". Our efforts eventually led to a free permit system that while not perfect has been good for all involved. We are currently working on a simular issue with Seattle Parks over caches placed in a large Seattle Natural Area. In addition we have sponsored many CITO events statewide. We have grown from a small organization of a dozen members to a state wide association with 6 chapters in all corners of the state.
  7. Hmmm.. I hadnt even noticed. I wonder if I should stop by REI and insist on an exchange?
  8. NO! The reason is that some NON-RECHARGABLE batteries will actually explode if you attempt to recharge them. Not something you want to happen while inside your GPS.
  9. Yes, it happens quite often on my system Internal is Drive E, SD Card is drive G. F is my Exteral Drive. I don't know why it gets ordered this way. Both devices were plugged in when the computer was booted.
  10. Garmin tried to buy a mapping supplier... I beleive it was Navteq, but got out bid by one of their competitors, Nokia if I recall. They are now in the position of having to buy mapping data from a competitor. There are not that many places that they can go to get the detail they need.
  11. What I was told when I spoke with a garmin rep is: 1. The licensing issues are coming from NAVTEQ, not Garmin. Garmin is simply complying with conditions set upon them by their vendor. 2. The DVD version requires an unlock code for each GPS it is used in 3. The SD version is pre-unlocked and is tied to the SD Card SN, not the GPS so you can move the card from GPS to GPS if you want.
  12. I went ahead and ordered one just to take a look. For $3.50 if it turns out to be something I don't like I'm not out much I wonder why it's so much cheaper than the one for the 60 series?
  13. I tried to order onen from invisishield, but got to the shipping screen with NO options Could not complete the transaction I would prefer that it cover the entire screen, but I guess I can live with it not covering that particular part of it. I wonder why they did it that way? Does it perhaps match the size of an already existing part?
  14. Not to hijack this thread, but just in case anyone is interested the Snohomish County Thomas Guide challenge has been approved and is ready to go. Similar (but not exactly the same) rules as this one. Snohomish County Thomas Guide Challenge
  15. Perhaps we just expect the Magellens and Delorme units to suck, but expected better from Garmin! Of course now that the 2.40 software is out, all is better
  16. Government Liquidation Auctions (Ammo Cans and Nuclear Ordinance Boxes) Better have a Big Truck!
  17. I got to ride on a Washington State Ferry once!
  18. A plentiful supply of shovels, trowels and other pointy objects? No, I don't blame the shovel when it's used to dig a hole.

Don't look at Groundspeak as a Political Body, it is a company. One of serveral that provide listings of Caches all over the world. The fact that it is the largest and most successfull says wonders as to how well run it is. If you went in to Macys, would you demand the right to review their Sales Associates or Managers, select what stock they put on their shelfs or what the charge for it?
  20. If we avoid doing something because someone somewhere might be allergic, we will never do ANYTHING. That being said, I would not use a Peanut Jar for a cache container, not because someone might be allergic, but because IMHO they make lousy cache containers.
  21. And he'll get $60 of that back at the end of the year.
