  1. or maybe... http://www.freeality.com/find.htm ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  2. anywho.com? that's not so good, so you probably don't mean that one... ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  3. gimpy - i wasn't doubting or questioning your experience... rather someone who had earlier suggested that the reporter do the finding. *most* reporters aren't allowed to write about their experiences, we tell other people's stories. when i did a geocaching story, i had to explain that i could not do the finding, and that we could not fake stuff for the photographer. (and all editors edit without ever going along for the ride. and everything in a paper is edited.) ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  4. just a thought from a reporters perspective here. unless you're an editor, and most of us aren't, our opinions or perspectives or firsthand experiences can't be used in a newspaper story. (magazines are a little different) also - most papers don't like to "stage / recreate" things (really, TV does, we want to try to be there when stuff happens) although, with this i know it can be hard. almost the best thing you can do (unless you're actually checking or placing a new cache) is to take someone new and let THEM find the cache, and have the reporter and photographer document THAT. they can get the experinced perspective from you, and the thrill of something new from the new cacher... ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  5. well, according the the lackey prime, there are around 120,000 people logging onto the site. he didn't say how many were paying, and as he's not a public company, it's his privilage not to! utah has the most caches per capita, and washington state looked (at the time we looked) like it had the most caches. texas was not far behind, but not many of those are down where i am. i am a reporter, was working on a story. that's all i got... ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  6. that will teach me not to read the manual properly... ah well... ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  7. whew! just reinitialized it and all is well... pity about all those waypoints i just lost! ah well - at least i can read the screen! ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  8. aaargh... yesterday while out, my screen went terribly pale all of a sudden. it's not the batteries, i didn't drop it, nothing unusual, no series of buttons hit... but i can't use it right now - can't see a dang thing on it. it's less than a month old. any clues, anybody? ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  9. when edmund hillary's son summited everest, he took a phone - sat phone i guess - to call his dad. it was pretty amazing to listen to their conversation. it also was a reminder of how much things have changed. interesting. ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  10. hello - corpus christi here - planning to head down your way, as there aren't too many caches in town ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  11. thanks all... ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  12. that is a great idea... i think some people have adopted that as a signature item... and the more the better. of course, if like me you know how to roll a shopping bah into a neat, self-contained triangle... (a somewhat embarrassing ability that now actually has some use) then you can do away with the container altogether. some of the places i've been to, i would need a whole skip - gulf coast, the things people chuck off boats... UGH ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  13. ah. my liverpudlian friend... navigation is more complex since the us of a adopted every city name they could as their own. (and then used most of them more than once) i'd guessed you meant england. i was there for creamfields in 2001... but it's been a while. ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  14. i'm in a low-cache region, and so far, i've mostly left, not taken. was amazed once to find a leaked bottle of wedding bubbles that someone had found next to a dumpster (so noted in the log) and added it. *sigh* some treasure. but - you know, they did it with joy and thought it was a fun thing. so good for them, i guess. made up some sig items this weekend, and think i'll start leaving those along with a trinket until the assembled trinket box is emptied. i'm in it for the log, and to leave something that i hope someone else will get a kick out of. ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  15. picked one up from a seaside cache where it had been for a while, and looks like some bubbles (darn those bubbles) leaked, got into the casing, and now it's oxidized in shades of green and black. how to clean? or should i not bother? they're bronze, btw. thanks ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  16. hehe had my gps less than a week now, and it's all i can do to stay at work and not rush out on a hunt. my husband thinks i'm nuts. taking another reporter off to look for benchmarks on the sea wall after work. half an hour and counting... ___________________________________ who's got the pig?
  17. i take nothing but gps... which is probably why i'm struggling to find 'em! will now print out maps and directions... and might consider a tape measure... ___________________________________ there is no knowledge, only things, which is really old knowledge.
  18. we have very few caches in the town where i live, and i don't know enough to feel confident to set one... plus - i'd love there to be more to find... right now i'm rationing myself to one a weekend day and benchmarks during the week. i'd love it if a couple of "vacation / wider territory caches" were placed and would be more than happy to help out with maintenance if it were needed. ___________________________________ there is no knowledge, only things, which is really old knowledge.
  19. i know the walk has no bearing - just adding color. thanks all ___________________________________ there is no knowledge, only things, which is really old knowledge.
  20. thanks... i was tending towards that, but wanted to check. it does (this cache) have a little bit of a history of being vandalized... cache... ___________________________________ there is no knowledge, only things, which is really old knowledge.
  21. so. i arrive at the location, and the clues tell me to look up, so i hop into three different low trees within a meter (sorry - can't think in miles and feet) of the spot, and nothing... then i see some paper and a smiley sticker on the ground under the tree. whaddaya know, it's the log and the last thing left in the micro cache. coins are gone, as is everything else. so i've rescued the log and will send it to the cache owner - whom i happen to know. so. can i log this as found? ps (i walked almost 7km in the boiling south texas sun to get there and home again... thank heavens for my camelbak.) ___________________________________ there is no knowledge, only things, which is really old knowledge.
  22. stick driving, newbie cacher here... my husband follows me looking bewildered... ___________________________________ there is no knowledge, only things, which is really old knowledge.
