  1. Yes Iowa is prairie land, but in terms of location, it seemed odd that Iowa was 'pulled out' Just not what I would have done, but no one called me and asked! I understand there is no perfect solution, just curious. [This message was edited by GeoTharn on May 17, 2003 at 09:11 AM.]
  2. Sorry, until I figure out how to put an image in my post, you'll have to go here to take a quick look at a map. Map
  3. I'm new here and I certainly could be way off base, but what criteria put Iowa in the Great Plains forum? I could have sworn we were Midwestern. Don't get me wrong, I understand we aren't trying to be part of a private club, but with Minnesota directly north and Missouri directly south, geographically it doesn't make sense to me. We certainly aren't any further west. I'm in this forum to watch for events for my neighboring states and the other for Iowa events. Just wondering, Thanks

  6. Ok, so let me summarize what I've read so far. A. You can't please everybody. (and some people are never pleased no matter what you do.) B. Leaving decent log entries is a courtesy, but not a requirement. (Please note I said "a decent" log entry, not "a" log entry which is part of the sport) C. Some people will, can't, won't, shouldn't, leave a log entry. D. Some people need to understand that some people will, can't, won't, shouldn't leave a log entry. E. Caches are like restaurants, the better the experience the better the tip(entry) F. Geocachers will eventually refer to their refrigerators as their "Food Cache".
  7. Ah, I get ya. Once I looked for this GPX file to download it started making sense. It was there the whole time in the cache listings! Good thing it wasn't a snake. Thanks
  8. Once you run it through its paces, let us know what you think of it. I haven't got mine yet and I'd like to know how well it does. Thanks.
  9. I am trying to understand what functionalities are available on a GPSr with map capabilities. There is a lot of information to sift through so I though I would just ask. If I was taking a 100 mile trip, I know the start and end point locations and can identify cache locations to search for, but it is a little more difficult to identify cache locations along the route. Browsing through the cache locations on-line and trying to see they are close to my route seems like a lot of work. I was thinking it would be great if I could download all the GPS cache locations, say for all the state of Iowa, and then plotting a route would show a cache location on the map letting me decide if I can/should alter my route. Is there anything like this or am I trying to make it too easy? What is the best way to ID cache locations along a long route? Thanks
  10. Newbie question here, Is there a code of conduct or a ritual I should follow when I meet another Geocacher in-route? Special handhake? Do we press a GPSr to eachother's forehead? Thanks!
