  1. Looks like I just needed to give it some time. All is working well now and no loss of data.
  2. I pressed and held the MENU and PAGE button while holding down the POWER button and the unit turned on. Now it looks like the power button is locked. It dose not turn the unit off nor does it turn the back light on. Anyone know how to unlock the power button?
  3. Ok, let's see who can figure this one out. Here is the scenario; I had my GPSMap 60Cx connected to my cars cigarette adapter. Once I turned off the car the message box popped up stating that the "External power had been lost" and to hit the enter button. Like an idiot I pressed and held down the power button thinking this would just shut off the system. This was not the case. I then pressed the enter button and cleared the pop up message box. I then tried to turn the unit off by pressing the power button again. I got no response from the unit. I brought it in to the house and removed one of the batteries and the screen just faded out and now the unit does not turn on if I press the power button. I called Garmin and they said the unit needs to be shipped to them. I would like to see if there is anything I can do to try to get the unit to turn back on. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
  4. I have downloaded the GASK software, installed it and now I'm tring to download waypoints from Geocaches site. Everytime I go to download a new point it gets the same name geocache.loc. Is there a way to find an area on the map that contains about 20 or so points, download all those points in one swoop and then open them with GSAK and then upload them to my GPSr? So far I have only been able to do this one point at a time. Any help would be great. Thanks so much.
  5. I know this has been discussed countless times but is there a step by step document on how to get caches into a gps? I would like to know what software is needed and how to download a group of points into Mapsource then into my Garmin GPSMAP60cx. Thank you
  6. Couple of questions. 1 What is the grey dot with a red center on the satellite screen? 2 Is there a fix for the moving cursor when the unit is stationary? (I'm on version 3.0) 3 In the Map view when you press Menu\Setup Map General section- What does Auto Zoom do? Points section- What does Land Cover do? Text section- What does Land Cover do? 4 I noticed that there is a water temp section. How is it able to determine water temp? Also I think I need to change the title of this topic. Can that be done?
  7. Well, I just got my 60cx yesterday and this is what I think thus far. First, ordering from Amazon was great! I picked up the 60cx GPSr, cig adapter, car window mount and the City Nav v8 software. I placed my order on Sunday and it got here by Wednesday. Second, some things I didn't like. 1. No batteries. At least give someone some cheapo's to put in the unit so you can get to playing around with it a soon as you get it. I know thats not a deal breaker but even less expensive electronics come with batteries. 2. I don't like the arrangment of the connections on the back when connecting the USB cord and/or using the window mount plus the car adapter. Everything comes straight out of the back making it difficult to look at the screen when connecting it to a computer. When trying to connect or disconnect it from the window mount is a little odd. 3. I was a little confused about what the cupon code was for when it said I could unlock maps in the track and waypoint manager. I entered in the code and it said it unlocked city nav v8 but when going back to the waypoint manager I did not see any difference. Should I have purchased teh City Nav software or did the cupon code allow me to download the software? Any Help? 4. I don't like how small the micro card is. I don't plan on changing it out if I get a 2gb card but I can see how it would be bad if you had to change it out in the field. 5. I have noticed when sitting still that the arrow will constantly be moving. Is there a fix for this? Other than these small thing I love ithis unit so far and will be using it to do some caching at Yosemite on the 23rd. I can't wait!!!!
  8. CHECK OUT THIS DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kingston 2GB miniSD Card, SDM/2GB $34.99 http://shop4.outpost.com/product/4922971
  9. I just ordered my new Garmin GPSMAP 60cx, cigarette lighter adapter, City Navigator North America v.8, automotive mounting bracket/suction cup and the extended 3year parts and labor warranty from Amazon. All for 496.80 - 50$ mail in rebate= 446.80. Not too shabby. Should be here by Thursday. Thanks for all the comments and thoughts.
  10. Also what do you think of the NAVTEQ feature?
  11. Tell me what you think of this deal; http://www.compuplus.com/i-Garmin-GPSMAP-6...bewcp484tqd16eq
  12. Thanks for all the info. From what it sounds like the to CX model is the way to go. Thanks for the help.
  13. What about the maps? Is it really that outdated? I currently own a Magellan Maridian with a 128sd card. I like it but I want something with a color screen, updated maps, and that has auto re-routing for on the road use. I see that the 60csx will do auto routing but if I go off course will it re-route and if not how hard is it to get new directions. Also, what about the 60cx? I don't think I'll use the compass or barometric altimeter.
  14. I'm looking at purchasing the 60CSX unit and want to know what you DON'T like about it. I think it works for me but I would just like to know what flaws it has or that you have run into using this device. Thank you.
  15. I want to get a new GPS unit and currently own a Megellan GPS. It's pretty accurate and does not eat batteries too bad. I have the car mount and cables to connect to the DC power. I will be selling it once I get a new one. I am currently looking into the Garmin 60Cx and maybe the 60cxs. I like the color screen and size of the unit. I would mainly use it for both on road navigation and caching. With that said I wnat a unit that will automatic re-routing and be able to get detail maps with topos. I own the National Geographic topo software for the state of CA and would like to know if there are any units that would be able to store those topo maps on it. I have also seen the navi units which are pretty nice with the touch screen and voice nav but can you do caching with it? Any thoughts and recommendations are welcome. Thank you.
  16. I have Mapsend Streets and Destinations and a Magellan Maridian(green) with a 128 Sandisk card. I have uploaded a region and a topo map to the card through a card reader and not through the GPS. The problem is when I upload a set of waypoints. I can see the *.wpt file on the card but I can't get the waypoints to display on the GPS. Am I jst missing something or what?
  17. Has anyone heard of this model GPS working with Direct Route software? Any hacks that will work?
  18. Anyone who has a window mount for Magellan Meridian I'm looking to buy one. Email me mbarr69@hotmail.com
  19. I own National Geographics Topo Califorina, Mapsend Streets, Mapsend Topo, Microsoft Street and trip planner 2003 and EZ GPS. I like the functions of Microsofts sotware, as far as being able to have a route planned out for streets. I like the detail of the National Geographics seemless maps. The easy of way-point loading of EZ GPS. So i guess the ultimate software would include some of these functions under one box.
  20. I've worked at a local Sport Chalet store where both Garmin and Magellan were sold and my decision came down to the Magellan Meridian or the Garmin E-trex Vista. After going over all the pros and cons of both units I wound up getting a Magellan Meridian. For the following reasons: 1) Bigger screen 2) Upgradable memory (I bought 128mb secured dgital card for $50) 3) Well protected LCD display 4) All the buttons are at the bottom of the unit which is great for either right handed or left handed people. Your fingers never cover the screen. 5) Price. I bought mine for $99 6) More powerful Quadrifilar Antenna I think thats about it. I'm new to the GPS and still need to figure out how to be a little more proficiant at using it. My girlfriend and I have been putting this unit to use since we have found out about Geo Caching.
