  1. Just got the Motorola Droid and I added Cachemate. But I can't transfer GSAK databases to the phone. Help, please!
  2. I updated to NT 2009 (as a DVD) and loaded the new maps onto my Nuvi. I wanted to load NT 2009 to my 60Cx, and I figured that I would just buy an additional unlock code. But NO! If I want to load NT 2009 to my other device, I have to purchase either another DVD or the card with pre-loaded maps! Doesn't that seem really ridiculous? Is one supposed to try and load a second copy of NT 2009 to their computer? Doesn't make any sense to me.....
  3. Actually, the same thing happens to me with certain caches, even when I am logged in. I posted about this a ways back, and was told that there was some intrinsic problem that might be fixed. But the actual problem was never really explained...
  4. Most of my finds have been solo. Sometimes I like to be alone, sometimes I'd rather have company but I can't always find someone to go with. As a woman, the only caching I don't do alone is night caching.
  5. I, and my family, would like to thank all previous posters for not having me killed...
  6. Whoa! My only "agenda" was to ask the opinion of others regarding the cache. There isn't anything else to the story, and I'm not bent out of shape. As for my supposed lack of logic, the guideline itself seems illogical to me - we have this guideline unless we decide not to use it - and I never said the guideline should be eliminated, just reworded. Of course, one could contend that it is merely a "guideline" and therefore subject to interpretation. Personally, I am of the opinion that if it got approved, then it's okay. If I, or anyone, don't want to have to eat at that particular place in order to log the cache, then we don't have to do that cache. Frankly, I have no problem with having to go there and buy dinner in order to do what's necessary for the cache. One has to figure something out to solve a puzzle cache...some people don't like to do that so they don't do puzzle caches. No problem. I only wondered why this particular cache, which seemed to be completely against the guidelines, might have been approved and thought someone else might have an idea. I am always amazed when, in these forums, people often assume that others have some deep, dark hidden motivations for their posts. We tend to read to much into posts....might not I wonder why someone would unjustly accuse me of having a "hidden agenda"? Maybe the poster has some "hidden agenda" that motivates their accusations? Who knows, but I was just trying to solicit the opinion(s) of other forum posters and I end up getting blasted.
  7. GC1AF32 There has been a lot of local discussion about whether or not this cache should be archived, along with some heated debate on the cache page (most since deleted). Hate to throw my 2 cents (or sense, as the case may be) into the fray, but I gotta say I can't see how this doesn't go against the guideline restricting "commercial" caches. "Commercial caches attempt to use the Geocaching.com web site cache reporting tool directly or indirectly (intentionally or non-intentionally) to solicit customers through a Geocaching.com listing. These are NOT permitted. Examples include for-profit locations that require an entrance fee, or locations that sell products or services. If the finder is required to go inside the business, interact with employees, and/or purchase a product or service, then the cache is presumed to be commercial. Some exceptions can be made. In these situations, permission can be given by Groundspeak. However, permission should be asked first before posting. If you are in doubt, ask first. If you do not have advance permission, your reviewer will refer you to Groundspeak." I know the reviewer approved it, apparently after lengthy discussions with TPTB, but if this type of cache is to be approved, then geocaching.com really should change or significantly reword their guidelines, as this clearly violates the currently listed ones. Was this approved because the owners of the restaurant weren't the cache placers? The added caveat of "Some exceptions can be made" seems like they are saying these caches are not allowed, unless we allow them.
  8. I don't have a name for the GPS I take out in the field with me, but my Nuvi that directs me as I drive I call "The Dashbroad".
  9. That's just it; in most cases the puzzles are great and aren't aided by the distant coordinates. The COs don't need the added distance to make the puzzles work.
  10. Okay, I'll post some GC numbers....but I would like to say that I did not start the thread to make problems for puzzle cache creators.... It's not an condemnation of the reviewers either; I know they are human and do their best, I was just wondering if the guidelines had been changed. To quote another cacher: "Even if the guideline did not exist, courtesy and common sense dictate that the posted coords should be in the ballpark". I just think that making coordinates way beyond the 2 mile guideline makes solving them much harder plus it ties up a spot (posted coordinates) in one place where no nearby cache exists. Here's some examples of recently published caches where the posted coordinates are significantly farther than 2 miles from the posted coordinates. GC15G67 GC19YH4 GC15FJ9 Of course, most of you will have to take my word for it because I'm not posting the actual coordinates....
  11. Yes, it's really that far off; there's a coordinate checker on the cache page and the CO confirmed as I was surprised by the distance . There is another closer to my home base that just was published and that one is 5 or 6 miles miles away from the posted coordinates (and they are the correct coordinates).
  12. "Michael", I didn't submit anything. I have just been figuring some puzzle caches and have noticed that some recent ones have been way beyond 2 miles. It's just a question; no need to be snippy...
  13. Hard to image what kind of good reason one could have to not be within the 1-2 miles...but 25?
  14. Aren't the posted and actual coordinates for puzzle (mystery) caches supposed to be within 2 miles of each other? I've noticed a lot of these caches published lately where the actual coordinates are way, way farther away (one more than 25 miles away!). Have the rules changed, or are the reviewers not abiding by them?
  15. Got a new computer with Windows Vista as the OS. When I tried to load City Navigator 8.0 NT, it either won't load or crashes the computer. Anyone else have this problem? I checked Garmin's website, but couldn't find any info about patches for Vista or Vista compatibility issues....
  16. For some caches, when I try to print from the "Printer Friendly" version of the cache page not all the information prints out. Everything above the short description is not there (like the coordinates ). For those cache pages that have this issue, the problem appears to be cache page related as it always happens for those particular cache pages regardless of the location where I try to print. What up with that?
  17. I'm surprised that more people aren't stopped by police when caching (particularly) at night. I'm constantly amazed that we can search urban areas at night with flashlights or headlamps and no one calls the cops. So much for people paying attention to what's going on around them. That said, I'm happy when the cops don't show up but it shows how suspicious behavior can easily go unnoticed, or at least unreported.
  18. Personally, I don't care how it is done as I am not a FTF fanatic. However, it seems that when people are interested in FTFs, going up against someone who manipulates the site in some way to gain unfair advantage is wrong. Just because someone can cheat, doesn't mean that they should. I was pointing out that by publishing the method, it would put everyone who is interested in FTFs on an even footing.
  19. Maybe I'm way off base, but what's the point of saying "there's a way" but not saying what the way is? If people can gain an advantage, isn't it more fair if everyone has the ability to gain the advantage? And wouldn't that give Groundspeak some incentive to close the loophole (or glitch or whatever it is)?
  20. Going to the Sun Valley, ID area next month and would greatly appreciate imput on great caches nearby. Thanks!
  21. My Garmin StreetPilot 2610 suddenly is not recognized (99% of the time) when connected via USB, making uploading of data impossible. It's not the cable, as the same cable works fine for my GPS Map 60CX. I downloaded new USB drivers, but it didn't correct the problem. It seems odd that every once in a while, the device is recognized. Any ideas what's up?
  22. Thanks for all the information. Hopefully, I can sneak away from my obligations to do some important stuff - geocaching....
  23. I can see a potential problem with reviewers and puzzle caches aside from the FTF issue. Many puzzles are easier to figure out "backwards" (figuring out the gag for the puzzle from the actual coordinates). A reviewer would have easy access to the final coordinates, and even if he/she decided that they could not find the cache until they figured out how to arrive at the actual coordinates, they would still have an advantage. And it would be almost impossible to know if someone was taking advantage of their position as a reviewer if they were using this method to figure out puzzles.
  24. Great! That is helpful. Any ideas for caches near the Metro in Maryland?
